    Update: was unable to add two subs to a Sonos one pair making it exceedingly unlikely you can add two subs to the Eras. (I wish Sonos customer service was a more reliable source of info)

      In the same budget. Which system you belive is better? Beam gen 2, sub mini and 2 era 100 or beam gen 2 and 2 era 300s.

    • @mrgold3591
      @mrgold3591 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SE7ENAC It might come down to your room set-up for which system will work best. I have the Beam, Gen 3 sub, and One SLs in my 14'X21' office with 9 foot ceiling and a LG OLED 55C1. My One SLs are around 2 feet away on either side of my small sofa against the wall with the TV around 13 feet away with the Beam mounted under and the sub to one side. The Era 300 would probably be overkill and sit too close to my listening position. I'm not sure how the rear overhead Atmos or wider soundstage effect would work from the Era 300 being 2 feet away at ear level? Seems like the Era 300 need to be positioned behind the optimal listening position at ear level with enough distance for the rear upward Atmos speakers to bounce off the ceiling and side firing speakers to bounce off the walls?
      I had my best sound improvement with my current set-up when I added the Sonos Sub. The Sub will improve the bass and really improve the mids/highs/voice with the Beam for all audio sources. The rear surrounds really depend on the audio because the rear speakers will come in/out depending on 5.1/5.0 or stereo. The local news or commercials can be in stereo or TV shows are in 5.1; but, sometimes nothing is sent to the rear speakers until background music is playing.

      Not sure if there is a such a thing as "stereo subwoofers" or multiple sub channels like you have with L/R, surround, overhead, or center speakers? I don't know if the dual subs have a separate channel or sharing the same channel? That might be the reason for it only being a 7.1.X with dual sub set-up.

      Yes, when paired with a soundbar they become invisible part of a whole … similar to how a Sonos one will lose it’s dedicated voice control. Confirmed with Sonos support (for what that is worth) … and historically the line in has been disabled so pretty confident

      People keep saying this. Always felt like the fives were overkill for Sonos rears (given they are not spatial oriented and treated as sound fillers) and much better suited for dedicated music listening … the 300 makes a lot more sense to me as a rear speaker … given it brings a new dimension to the sound … but I will strongly consider. @@neverenoughtech Thanks for the video, another dilema. What if someone wanted improved stereo for music, then the 5s are the option Ive been seeing. Yet If I also want a system that can use dual subs and offer Dolby Atmos for movies/games we then also need a soundbar (eg the ARC) and a pair of Era 300 for the rear and upfiring channels? Next question, in such a setup will the ARC still enable the 5s to operate as stereo channels or are do they become disfunctional?

  • @Yowzoe

    Question about the 300s I've been very close to buying from a new Arc and sub owner:
    Is it true that you can't easily move Era 300s from a home theater (surround) grouping (with an Arc + Gen 3) back and forth to an all-house streaming music grouping (two 100s plus a sub mini) when you're doing one or the other (watching a movie / listening to music)?
    In Era 300 reviews I've seen on YT it's been said or implied that you have to designate (permanently?) the 300s to either one or the other usage -- how can this be? Why can't I just open the Sonos app and re-group them on the fly?
    If this is true, is there any probability of this capability with a software update anytime soon? I'd love to quickly toggle the Era 300s from rears to streaming, and back again, easily, quickly. This seems like a no-brainier, and I just assumed...

      Thank you!! Regarding height and EQ adjustments, do you ever adjust even after TruePlay? If so what is your general setup pref for 300s? And I’d you do, do you recommend adjusting each speaker before setting up as a pair within the S2 app?
      Note, half of my living room is a flat ceiling and the other half becomes vaulted, which is in part why I went with Era 300 pair, due to upward and side firing.
      I’ve also tried to physically toe in vs straighten the pair; however, unless I’m center of the listening triangle, I’m surprised the 300s lean the majority of the vocals toward the speaker you are closest to (eg sitting on the right side of the sofa and I hear the right speaker much more). I get that it’s physics, but was also hoping the Sonos magic algorithms would compensate to center the music, etc…. Any suggestions ??
      Much appreciated on any expert ideas sir!
      Michael.

      I just replaced my Nakamichi 7.2.4 with the Sonos Arc, 2 Gen 3 subs, and two Fives rear surrounds for my LG OLED 77C1. The Nakamichi subs were wireless; but, the rear surround needed to be connected by wire to the Nakamichi subs. That limited the placement of the subs/surrounds because of the long rectangular shape of my great room. I didn't want wires on the tile floors and I couldn't run speaker wires behind walls or along the tile floor infront of entry points. The Nakamichi subs and surrounds ended up sitting right next to the sofa or loveseat and they sometimes overpowered the soundbar 6-18 feet away.
      I was able to place the two Sonos subs on either side of the Arc at the front of the room (18 feet from couch). I was able to move the wireless Fives back 9-12 feet back behind the sofa on speaker stands. Looks better, sound excellent, and easier to use with less adjusting after Trueplay compared to the Nakamichi. One of several advantages Sonos has over the Nakamichi is the whole house sound system. I can click one button and add my Sonos Roam to listen to the news while in the kitchen or backyard. I can do the same for room to room music or whole house music (I have Beams in the Office and Master Bedroom). I also turn on the Roam and mute the Arc system for night time viewing so I don't wake up the entire house. You can also mix/match, upgrade, downgrade, repurpose around the house, or add more speakers as needed for years to come with Sonos. I have two IKEA Symfonisk bookshelf speakers hidden inside my A/V cabinet under the Arc I sometimes turn on for more sound for big action movies.
      I think the all new Nakamichi Dragon has wireless rear surrounds if running wires is an issue?

    Not sure where you get your information from, but I’m pretty sure adding two Subs to an Arc + Era 300s setup makes it a 7.2.4 setup.
    Also you can only use two Subs in a Sonos home theater setup. You can’t currently add two Subs to a stereo pair.

    • @neverenoughtech
      @neverenoughtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was able to test directly - I was not able to add a second to Sonos ones. I was surprised when customer service repeated that you can several times but figured the consistency was proof enough. I corrected in the description.
      I also kind of trusted Jonah on this one thehometheaterdiy.com/sonos-now-allows-you-to-connect-2-subs-in-a-system/
      I think you can call it what you want in terms of a 7.1.4 or 7.2.4 -- Sonos "claims" whatever that is worth they play the same sound so it gets a single channel designation. I think there is probably a technical and a popular method for counting sub channels
