    This was painful to listen to. Im supposed to spend 30 minutes saying I want more responsibility while arranging a second meeting? Sounds like I'm afraid to ask for a raise.

      Seriously. It's not that you haven't created the value they're looking for; it's that the value for your job went up, and they thought they could get away with not paying more for it.

      I agree! The way their company is run is becoming more and more rare.
      Most companies now will just ignore your request for a meeting. Or they will say a raise is not in the budget.
      Your fastest way to a pay increase is getting a new job.

  • @momzwrite

    Best way to get a raise = leverage/walk away power..
    I got a job offer for a higher paying job, went to my current boss and told her I wanted to stay but it "didn't make sense to not move forward". She tried to get a raise/promotion approved through HR and she was denied. She came back and gave me her blessing to move on.
    No bridges burned, just a transparent couple of conversations.

  • @marcusarelius
    @marcusarelius 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The best way to ask for a raise is to let your performance talk for you. If you have to ask for it, it may be time to look elsewhere at a company that values above average work ethic.

    • @Leonidas656565
      @Leonidas656565 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree. Not to pat my own back but I work really hard at whatever job i do. Ive had a few employers that just want a drone that will get paid dirt to do basic menial tasks.
      I leave those jobs pretty quick to look for jobs that are either more fulfilling or better paying.
      I would say it is never the right time to stop applying for jobs unless you’re very comfortable with both your work and your salary AND you feel that you’re not in risk of losing your job.
      Some employers just do not care about you and you have to be one step ahead of them or you will be burnt and left behind

    That’s the way it works, you live in area where the cost of living is less then the national median. If I move from my rural location to a city my pay goes up. Not saying it’s right but most companies are like this.

    • @azylamp
      @azylamp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Up to certain positions, where you located is affecting your pay. But for certain positions upwards, your pay no longer bounded by location. The company gotta follow average pay in national scale. At least that’s how it works in mine.

  • @keithowu
    @keithowu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ken's advice is good if she has no other supporting evidence, which is the key and what most people don't do. One of the keys to getting a raise is you have to support the request with evidence. You should document all the things you do above and beyond, each time you were called out for exceptional work by peers, coworkers and clients. Each time you beat deadlines, added certifications, degree, etc. Accumulate that evidence over the year. You then ask for the raise and support it with this documentation after asking for a meeting well in advance. What you shouldn't do is ask for a raise because you've been there a certain amount of time. You have to *earn* the raise. Take yearly reviews and constructive criticism seriously.

  • @Scott-jp5dv
    @Scott-jp5dv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Business owners like Dave have the wrong attitude. Can't talk about how much the job pays or asking for a raise. Employers need to realize that they need us more then we need them. I won't waste my time or skills at a job that doesn't appreciate me or what I do.

    Idk who this guy talking is, but his advice is terrible. I’m all for Dave, but the other guy has no clue. If you’re not being paid fairly, find a new job or demand better pay. You are being PAID to do that job. Fair compensation or go right out the door to thousands more opportunities.

    What I believe he meant to say was: Ask for a meeting with your boss. Present all of your tasks and the skills that you hold that bring value to the company..
    The answer given was more of a "management is throwing a pizza party for you". No. These conversations grow you as a person. Come with facts, not emotion. I rarely disagree with this show, but it's much easier to say this coming from a place of power than be fighting for what you're worth.... Healthy management. So out of touch. 🤦‍♂️
