    Once I asked my boss for a raise, and he told me; not only I will give you a raise. I will give you 4 extra bonuses a year, an extra paid time vacation week, extra holidays, and even a company car.
    I asked my boss if that was a joke, and he replied, "you started it"

    The thing that I always hear is that women don’t ask, so we are underpaid.
    I recently moved to NV from CA for school where the wages are much lower. I got a promotion because I am now a pharmacist intern rather than a pharmacy technician. Even with the promotion, because wages are much lower, I was getting a $5.75/hr pay decrease. I was shocked and disappointed to see that, especially because there are now so many added responsibilities. So I had to levelheadedly talk to the manager about how much I was making in CA, the added responsibilities and stress, my loyalty for the company, etc etc. The manager ended up maxing out my pay for the position and I’m making way more than other interns I know.
    I guess my point is that if you don’t ask, you won’t receive. You need to be respectful and show loyalty and gratitude for the position, you also need to provide evidence that you’re worth it.
    And again, men are more likely to ask so we women need to step up and start asking. It worked for me and I genuinely wasn’t expecting it to.

    • @RS-xq4hf
      @RS-xq4hf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @EJ Everlast I think that is a very generalized statement. We’re probably not as good at construction work or heavy lifting, but you shouldn’t really say something so universally offensive. That’s an outdated mindset.

    I wanna start out by saying I’m a huge Dave Ramsey fan. However, I must say, I don’t feel like he did the best job on this particular subject. If you are female as the caller is, it’s a proven fact that females rarely ask for raises and already tend to fear they will come across as being greedy or thinking too highly of themselves. I myself am the same way. But I do know my worth, and I’ve done my research. Of course a humble attitude is always important but that does not mean you should make yourself feel less valuable or that you have to “prove yourself” when you know your manager sees your hard work and just hasn’t rewarded you for it yet. If they ask for examples, of course give them! If you know you have proven yourself in your position and want a raise, go in there with confidence and respectfulness. Tell them you enjoy your job and you’re committed to sticking with the company rather than trying to find somewhere else that would pay you higher. However, you need to be fairly compensated and then show what value that fair compensation would be.

    I'm a college student working in the kitchen at Chick-Fil-A. I've been given two raises but the raises were given to everyone in the kitchen at the same time. However, there are two kitchen workers that have 2 years experience and make at least $11/ hour (I know this for sure but do not know the exact amount), but I only make $9.25/hr with 1 year of experience. If one of them quit, I could take on their role very quickly and the kitchen would barely feel a difference. I have been given authority to call the shots when those 2 people are not around. I have been in the most difficult positions in the kitchen when our store broke its personal record for cars in and out of the drive-thru MULTIPLE times so I have proved to be reliable when the pressure is on. Do I ask for a raise? I am the 3rd best person in the kitchen and make AT LEAST $2/hr less than the two best guys even though I could replace them if need be.

      Yes, ask for it.
      But make sure you say how much you like to work in that place in advance. And I wouldn't mention how much the others are getting payed, that is not your problem.
      Focus more on how you have proven you can handle the pressure, and how you actually care about the business.
      A personal advice to you. Don't fool yourself thinking that this is not a risk.
      It is a risk, and make sure your are ok with it mentally(I watch some motivational videos all day in advance.) Because if we are not willing to take risks to get more out of life, so what we get is exactly what we deserve. And you can bet your money this is exactly how your boss thinks.

    i believe that you should not ask for a raise because that can get you a NO for an answer. The correct question is what do I need to do to get a 10 percent raise? That will get you a lot of information, for one the work needed to get a 10 percent raise, you will also get to know what the workload required is and if its fair or not, and thirdly you will know what the company thinks of you. They might raise you immediately because you asked or they might say sorry, you will never get a raise cause you are already overpaid...and then you know NOW is the time to leave.
