Video 52 of me liking and then commenting on every new upload to tell the viewers that the Man Alone Podcast is absolutely some of that sweet, unhinged audio/vocal-honey. Psssst. By a show of “yes baws”’s, who makes a point to try to shop at their local game store? Sometimes I just buy on the internet for the sake of ease and instant gratification and savings on the coin. I’m not necessarily proud of it, but that’s the truth.
I tried to make a point of it, but there’s barely ever anything besides “The World’s Most Popular Role Playing Game” 🙄 on the shelves in any store I find. This is in Brisbane, Australia. We Australian’s are a nation of obscene RPG primitives. Benighted. Heathen. Gameless. We should probably be purged.
I try to but they don't open until 1:00pm. I work from home, so I try to go out early and be back home before Noon when I go shopping. Unless I need more paints quickly it's usually easier to just buy online.
Here’s how I know I’m watching a Man Alone video: I wake up, see this new videos, start watching. Half way in, he starts (rightfully so) complaining about the dice. Realize I need to go put on a shirt and grab coffee. Come back and the dice rant is wrapping up….and I love it!
I wasn’t even mad. I was over it the minute it started. I’m not even mad anymore. I’m not mad they gave me a $50 box set for me to play a game that included no dice. Don’t even care. Why would I care about that totally fair business practice
I had the exact opposite reaction opening my Forbidden Lands box... Oh Sweet, the books are hard bound in leather and they left out the customary cheapo dice with air bubbles in them!
But what I really don’t like, that in one set is not enough. They write it themself, you will need to have “10-15”. In the set you have 12. And judging by the prices of all maps/cards/dices - they making cash on this much more than on books.😅
This absolutely kills me - I just read this. Not even for advanced rolls either. And the color coding matters, so even if you use your own dice you have to color match them!!!!
@@amanisalone majority of players just use simple different coloured d6. Cheap, and plenty of times players already have them. And symbols on d8-d12 - you have a small table to keep in beginning, after that you remember which number how much successes gives. 6-7 is one, 8-9 two, 10-11 three, 12 four. But if you angry because of dice, interesting what your reaction will be on one of fighter specialisations, that possible only with deck of their cards (sold separately 😅). Path of the Enemy. Community made some replacements, but still its pisses of plenty people.
Great showing here haha. Very thankful for the Forbidden Lands warning. So cool to see that you're dipping a a toe further into the wargaming pool. Ive also been interested in more skirmish sized games (picked up Zone Wars on your recommendation and it did not disappoint). Count me as one that also loves Warhammer lore but doesn't want to spend thousands of dollars, and just as many hours, building up a full army. Skirmish level can tell some pretty fun stories on their own it seems. Cant wait to see what's in 55's box!
Don't be jealous!!! But also...and I'm just saying this to be clear...it's one of my two game stores...technically a third because there's a wargaming store where I go for warhammer stuff. But one of them is three miles away it takes forever to walk there!
No dice with a fifty dollar game?!? That would piss me off too. And they want $28 for the dice? Robbery!! Looks like The Ring was a good deal though... Maybe you can use the dice from The Ring to play Forbidden Lands?
@@americanbaldguy We should remember that 99% of $50 games don't come with any dice or anything at all, since most games are just a core rule book. And some of those core rule books cost more than $50 by themselves. We are just spoiled by the absurdly good Dragonbane box
You can use regular dice for any of those games. But if you want to use symbols to ease your game - no. One ring have symbols instead of 11 and 12, and add symbol on sixes. FL adds symbol on 6, on 8 plus there few symbols… In short, two different systems of marking dice.
Dragonbane is the ultimate box set, full rules and tons of extras. The Forbidden Lands boxed set is great, while it doesn't have a lot of the extras, the hard cover full rule books still make up for it. The TOR2e starter set is annoying however as its a simple ruleset and if you want to play anything beyond the starter adventure with the pregens, you need to buy the rulebook. That said, I bought it anyway. /sigh Free League will always take my money dammit (except Symbaroum, I refuse to go bankrupt). Oh and the solo rules for Forbidden Lands are in the Bestiary :D
I bought the Forbidden Lands boxed set just now. Here’s how the conversation in the store went: “Speaking of Free League, do you have the special dice for Forbidden Lands?” Them, looking at the box: “hmm, where did you see it needs special dice?” Me: “I saw it on a video.” Them, looking on their computer: “hmm, it looks like normal d6 and d8 etc.” Me: “I think they have extra stuff like some x’s or something.” Them: “hmm, we can’t order it; it’s out of stock”
@@drivers99 Yeah for $32 I had refused to buy them, especially since you kinda need two sets. You can sorta get away with one set but, for example, they only give you four white attribute dice when you can have a max of five in an attribute. Buuuuut they're on sale on Amazon right now for $23.99 so I caved.
Interesting reviews! So weird that the FL Box Set doesn't include dice, but I like the fact that the books inside are hardcover Whilst looking for this box set, I've seen two versions pop up the "regular" and the "collector", I'm wondering what is the difference between the two?
Forbidden Land was the one set I was disappointed that there was no dice. I like free league but I hate that dice is extra and expensive unless you buy the starter sets. I bought the one ring on pre order with starter and extra dice because I wanted the black set. Since it was pre order and I had a 10% discount it was worth it at the time. If it was now I would’ve passed on the system.
Lucky people, that have local gamestores… In my country I have 2 stores that sells ttrpg (but stores of board games), and there only dnd with sometimes one or two random books, like Genesys. So without Amazon I was paying 50 dollars more for one book.
TL;DR for my own comment: why do they not sell the special dice you need for Genesys but still sell the books?! Our reactions to the Forbidden Lands covers were opposite. It makes me want to get the box set which of course is in every game store so I ignore it everywhere I go. Speaking of using special dice that aren’t included, when I got The One Ring (before I got the boxed set which has them) I bought the dice (at a super amazing but overcluttered junky store called Black and Read in Denver) and it turned out they were really old misprint dice so I got some free replacements sent to me. Maybe the misprints will be rare some day lol. AND the most frustrating is I have Star Wars box set which comes with special Star Wars dice and got the books for Genesys system which uses the same dice but the symbols are all different BUT the company that sells them doesn’t make more! So I have to either pay 2x-4x the price for them or get 3D printed ones or I even thought about learning how to make dice (no, that would cost way more in money and time… but could be cool). Why do they make and sell a system with special dice but not sell the dice any more?!
I only now watched the full video and now I feel bad for recommending Forbidden Lands since you got so upset over the lack of dice. Just wanted to make sure that you know you really don't need the custom dice! Neither me nor anyone I know uses them. Regular D6 of three different colors do the trick just as well. FL is my favorite solo system currently and I really don't think Dragonbane can replace it. DBs little solo adventure is way too barebones and can be played through in two hours or so (see the video Trevor from Me Myself & Die did on it!) I have 32 FATE dice. When I solo play I use all 32 of them. I don’t even use them as FATE dice, I use them as nD3-n dice pools (each die yielding a result of 0, 1, or 2). Nobody I know wants to have anything to do with my weird little probability curves, and the kinky little ruleset that I use them for (it’s a wonderful way of representing massive power differences with hugely fluctuating dice pools but very manageable numbers); which is reason number vigintillion why I play alone. The bigger problem than the lack of dice is that FL uses the same card initiative system as dragon bane and doesn't come with cards, meaning I have to raid my DB set every time or fish A-10 out of a regular card deck. It's definitely annoying and the price of the bespoke dice and card sets is ridiculous compared to the cost of the boxed set. Fortunately a block of 100 d6 and a deck of cards is a pretty cheap ask. On the other hand, I personally love the binding of the core books. On the whole I'm pleased with the FL boxed set, but your annoyance in certainly justified.
