    The best part about Mr. Rogers is that he never spoke down to you. He never talked as if you had a lesser understanding or no experience. Even though he knew his audience was overwhelmingly small children, he never belittled their intelligence. He just talked to you like a friend having a nice conversation.

    Mr Rogers saved my life. I had unspeakable things happening to me when I was very small, and after it was over, I would somehow find my way to my green beanbag chair, and there he was. He told he I was special, worthy of love when I felt unlovable, unwanted, unclean, he spoke to me and my 4 year old heart. I struggled a lot as I grew up and young adulthood wasn't any easier, but I carried him with me always. He helped me to keep my heart open and to give better than I had received. He taught me to love and look through the lens of non-judgement. He was a gift to children, a gift to the world, and I feel blessed to have grown up in a time when he was on tv every day, reminding us all that we were worthy of God's love.

    My much older brothers mocked him in the early 1970's. They told me our mom wanted me to be a girl, she wanted me to watch this "Sissy man" to change me into a girl, at some point I refused to watch with the support of my father. Very soon after I became a violent, abusive, bullying child, teen and young adult with an addictive personality/anti-social behavior disorder. At 41 y/o I watched Mr. Rogers, on-line, ask Sen. Pastore for funds to support his show on TV and realized I had been completely incorrect my ENTIRE life about Fred Rogers and his work. After a lifetime of distain for this amazing man and believing him to be a hypocrite and fake my false narrative was shattered by his sincere request and explanation. As I sat watching him, Mr. Rogers, talk to Sen. Pastore, I quietly said to myself: "I'm sorry Mr. Rogers for being so mean to you." Immediately I heard Mr. Roger's voice, in my head, reply: "That's o.k., John, we all make mistakes sometimes." Mr. Rogers had been dead for 4.5 years at that time, I don't say this to suggest the experience was supernatural or spiritual, but I will say I was absolved of any quilt at that moment.
    Thank you, Mr.Rogers.

I came home from school one day and turned on the TV and there was My old neighbor in his familiar house, Mr. Rogers. I watched it and felt so relieved. His message never changed from when I was very young. For several months and years, I would come home and watch Mr. Rogers. For a time, he made me feel welcome. When he gave this speech and said ‘I like you just the way you are’. I lost it. I needed that when I was a kid, and I lost that message until this speech.

    He was and still is the best example of Jesus I can think of. Saying those words "I like you just the way you are" is Jesus. Religious people like to preach being perfect, sinless and without fault (when they sin just as much or worse than we do) but Mr. Rogers never made people feel bad about sinning. Instead, he would (if you listen to his lessons) teach us and motivate us to love and respect one another so that we would be better people. He never scolded us or made us feel horrible or guilt (like those Religious people in Utah or those that here home base is in Rome) he just showe us love, understanding and compassion. He was a minister also but never tried to tell you about Christ, he would just show you Christ!!! Thank you God for giving us and still giving us one of your wonderful examples of Jesus in Mr. Rogers!!!

    Something occurred to me recently. For Mr. Rogers to be authentic in his well wishes and love for children, which I fully believe he is/was as genuine as they come, he must’ve endured some very dark days.

    • @marynnalindseykerce7510
      @marynnalindseykerce7510 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True. He had asthma as a child, and there were no effective therapies, so he had to avoid the usual vigorous outdoor play. A relative gave him sweets, and so, without outside play and with extra calories, he gained weight. He was bullied, then.
      His little dog and his maternal grandfather -- and many relatives -- helped him. His grandfather McFeeley would often say, "Freddie, my boy, you've made this day a special day just by you're being you."
      Fred Rogers was a musical and intellectual genius who knew and understood pain as well as love. He was genuine.

    Of all the PBS Kids shows from my childhood, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood has been the one I enjoyed watching the most, better than Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow, etc. I guess it's because of his gentle- or mild-mannered persona combined with his activities and interactions with other people that used to catch my attention so easily. Even today, I still enjoy watching this and always will. R.I.P. Mr. Rogers, and thank you for all you've done. You will always be my neighbor.

    I had a chance to visit his grave and to see his childhood home in Latrobe, Pennsylvania on the way back from a weekend trip last fall. It was a very special experience. Someone had actually left a letter at his grave that they had written to him. People probably leave things all the time. I also visited Pittsburgh for the first time last spring, and there’s a memorial statue there dedicated to him. If you visit the Heinz Museum in Pittsburgh, you can see many things from the TV show, including the sets. It was very cool. He was a very special person. He simply lived his life and loved as as 1Corinthians 13 states.... the greatest thing you can have is LOVE. Mr Rogers treated others as he wanted to be treated and loved generations of Children and adults!!
