    The very first "spread" I learned was to shuffle your deck, find The Fool, and the card above it was the cause of a problem and the card above it was the solution to it. It's actually been really beneficial for me and my friends who ask me for readings,

    • @ScarletSangre
      @ScarletSangre 4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      You put above twice. Did you mean below or do you pile the cards above each other? This sounds very interesting though!

    • @fryingpanalex
      @fryingpanalex 4 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      MusicandLaughs The way I’ve seen it is that the one below it is the problem, and the one above it is the solution, but I’ve also seen it the other way. So I’d say which ever one you feel fits ! :)

      Hi, I'm new to all his so this is probably a silly question but I really like the sound of your idea, and would like to ask for some clarification please as I'm not sure which way to read it as I always thought that you should have the back of the cards towards you before pulling them, and in that way the card 'above' is the one with the face-side facing the back of The Fool. Oh dear. Not sure I'm even explaining this well. I hope you see what I'm trying to say.
      By 'the card above The Fool', do you mean the card that comes before it when you are looking through the pack i.e. with all the 'faces' towards you ? And then, the 'card after the fool', which I think you mean to be the 'solution' would be the one "below" it ? Is that correct ? Thanks for your time.

    • @fryingpanalex
      @fryingpanalex 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      The Delattres No worries! It can get a little confusing! So by “the card above The Fool” I mean when you are looking through the deck with the faces towards you. If that does help, here’s another way to put it. “The card above The Fool” means when you are looking through the deck with the images facing you, the card that comes before it. Hope this helped some more ! Sorry if it didn’t

    I’m a beginner and I like to do ‘the wheel of the medicine spread’. You start with East(spiritual), South (emotions), West (Health), North (intellect), Middle (Soul). I learned this spread from a book of Colette Brown and its very helpful for me.

    • @southernspiritualtarot3916

      Hi. Just a quick note. This is "The Medicine Wheel Spread"
      North (Mental), South (Physical), East (Spiritual), West (Emotional) and the center/middle: Heart (Guidance).
      This is a Native North American spiritual symbol. Medicine wheels are typically stone structures with an outer wheel joined to a central point with a series of spokes. But thank you for bringing this spread up. It is a great spread to use.

    I love the spreads you presented, and I wanted to toss out one more option. I found the 'Know Thyself' spread not too long ago and I've found it to be incredibly useful. It's a 3 card spread and the positions read:
    1. Who am I?
    2. What do I need?
    3. How do I go about meeting my needs?
    I like that it centers me and helps me isolate me wants from my needs, and I've found that what I need often involves improving the world around me rather than focusing in on the creature comforts that I would have potentially identified on my own.

    I just did the release and receive reading. I got the empress as a release and the tower to receive. First i got shook (I'm a begging and the tower... Ugh... Made me a lil bit frightened). But i actually realized that I was trying to look perfect in the last weeks for someone to like me (my crush) and I consciously felt that this is not the right thing to do. So i let go of perfectionis. And for the tower, I understood that I have to recieve a change of letting go of the habit of building a tower of different and scary possibilities that are in my head. Some sort of rapunzel getting out of the gritty tower.

    A few of my favorite beginner spreads:
    Strength and Weakness
    Shuffle and find the strength card, the card in front is your strength and the card behind is your weakness.
    Rid and Keep
    Shuffle and find the Death card. The card behind it is something you need to leave in the past and the one in front is what you should strive for.
    Crossover
    Pull two cards, the first card represents you in the present, then pull a crossover card which is something that needs your attention, either what is holding you back or what you need to appreciate more.
    I generally don’t read inverted cards but especially for these spreads I get better readings just taking the meaning for face value.

    Im a beginner tarot reader and I used to just watch tarot readings on youtube. It seems like most of the readings I've seen doesnt really have a "spread" (maybe they do but it's unknown to me, or rather implied) but more of, they're telling the story from one card to the other. I've read for a few of my friends using that same spreadless/promptless method, just diving deep with the cards and saying what comes up. It has worked well, surprisingly, and I found that one card pulled for a person would have a diff meaning for the other, depending on where I was drawn to in the art or even the energy of the person (but im like semi conscious that im doing it). but it makes me think or doubt sometimes if i should go ahead and look at spreads. I am telling myself that having a spread is not superior to having none, just preference. The intuition on how to read cards regardless are what matters, or rather trusting what that is you are hearing. Anyway, THANK YOU, the within/without/guidance piqued my interest, as I'm not so keen on doing "future-telling" although I have read a friend with a feeling of a future-telling before which I didn't really intend at the start. 😅

    This is a great video. What I've enjoyed is pulling an oracle card as the message of the day and then a tarot card from each of my decks (I have 3) for additional messages related to the message from the Oracle deck.

    So I've just recently got to a place in life where I was ready to get my own deck and begin this journey. I was very picky about the deck that I chose (aka chose me in my opinion). I did some research about how to bond with my deck etc. However, I heard one person say that shuffling and doing a single card spread was the best way to really get to know your deck. I've kept a journal of each spread, single card etc and from day one it was for lack of better words, "had me shook" but in a good way. I've been able to go back and re-read and reflect on the past spreads and really learn better. I do continue to do periodic small spreads throughout the week but I always start my morning with a single card.
    Thank you for being so knowledgeable and keep making your videos!

    Wonderful video. I don't use spreads with more than 4 cards often. I find as I grow with the cards there's a lot of depth in smaller spreads and I often get overwhelmed with so much to look at and connect. I will definitely be trying some of these.

    1. Energy of the day - one card read
    2. Release and Receive - two card read
    3. The classic - Past, Present, Future - three card read
    These three are my focus (bread and butter) reads.
    Truthfully, I don't know how to properly address most of the other reads

    *PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING:* I've gotten a lot of questions about the elemental spread, particularly regarding the order of the cards. I deliberately left this open because everyone associates the elements with the directions differently according to tradition, location, etc. So, I would encourage you to do what works for you - there is no right or wrong, just decide before you pull the cards. Personally, I use Earth for the left-hand card, or with the Westerly direction, and Air, Fire, Water respectively going anti-clockwise from there.
    Also, I neglected to mention the name of the deck featured in the video. It is the incredible *Textured Tarot by Lisa McLoughlin.* You can see my full walkthrough of this deck here: th-cam.com/video/_JzElAJZh0I/w-d-xo.html
    And don't forget you can find a brief text break down of all of these spreads on my blog: www.kateyflowers.com/blog/tarot-spreads-for-beginners

      not sure if you'll see this, but for the elemental spread do you deliberately pull cards with the suits that correspond to each element or am i just looking too deeply into it? thanks for the vid!

    Today is Nov, 9/20, I have been struggling feeling i am so busy doing what others want rather than what I need. It has been so heavy I have thought of packing up and disappearing. I am new to Tarot and purchased the Crow Deck which I adore. I watched your video and decided to try the three card draw of within, without and advice. Oh my word unbelievable cards. I will do as you suggested and keep a journal for a few months to reflect on. My cards were Within-X Swords, just as I had been feeling, defeated broken
    Without-Page of Pentacles, telling me new beginnings, envision the path I wish to travel.
    Advise- Ace of Wands, letting me know I am on the right road and it is divinely guided, so I must accept that I am doing the right thing and I will be guided if I accept this.
    Oh my goodness, I have not gone into detail here but I did in my notes. I feel far more positive than I did starting this day! Thank You for your video!

    Thank you so very, very much for this wonderful learning video! *hugs* I learned so many things I never thought about when looking at the cards. I am certainly going to incorporate a lot of these spreads for my everyday dealings with life advice. lol I also love the fact that you explain the outcome card is not set in stone as the universe is in constant flux. More readers should do this and explain this too before the reading so the sitter understands. I have seen people freak out unnecessarily because they pull a "bad" card as the outcome. When something as simple as turning left on a street instead of right as you always do and you've changed the outcome already. I also tell people to trust their instincts when wanting to change an outcome, if something pops into your head, do it, no questions asked. Like that feeling to turn left today instead of right.
    I think that this is what gets Tarot a bad name. The reader doesn't explain things before the reading as if the sitter already knows this stuff. Just attend a few psychic fairs to see what I mean. I try to talk to the person that is upset if I can to help them to understand. And don't even get me started on readers that pull crap in front of me to secure another reading or an ongoing client!! lol

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re so very right! The example you’ve provided - turning left at a street - actually reminds me an awful lot of a Doctor Who episode in which such a small decision changed the course of the universe!

      This was a life changing experience for me and eldest sister. We always went the highway to get home from our other sister's farm but this one day I got in the car and instant terror took hold of me. It was so bad I had to jump out of the car for air. I said to my sister that I can't go in the car if she takes it on the highway. Of course she thought me to be out to lunch. lol Until I totally freaked and was shaking so bad I nearly fell down and I was crying so hard I could barely speak. The sister we were visiting said just go the back way, I know it's longer but there's no way she's gonna get in the car if you don't. Being outvoted, she agreed. As we got to the intersection of that highway, a most horrible car crash occurred. Had we of taken the highway as usual, we would of been smack dab in the middle of that accident and probably me, her and my nephews killed. She just turned and looked at me white as a sheet and said we would of been right there! How did you know? I told her, something just popped into my head not to go that way and when I tried to ignore it, it got worse.

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow, that’s intense! So glad you were able to voice yourself and that your sisters listened, even if reluctantly! I suppose they probably won’t question you again on similar matters!

    I've been interested in tarot for years, got my first deck a year ago, and felt so stuck every time I tried to do a reading because all the spreads I'd seen recommended were so complicated! It really blocked me from listening to my intuition. Now I've been getting into the habit of doing simple, almost daily readings with up to four cards (but usually only one or two). I did a few for other people but mostly on myself, and I've gained a lot of confidence! Katey, thank you for this wonderful video. You've helped me broaden my choices when it comes to simple card readings and I'm so excited to try these out! Fantastic suggestions here and you have such a positive, warm nature when you explain things - I subscribed 😊Take care! 🌿

    What a great video! Sounds easy to understand & follow also the spreads seem small enough to learn as I am just starting out. Sound advice. This is what ive been doing. 1 2 and 3 card spreads, or more if i just feel like more is needed. These are all great spreads. The elemental one is my favorite you mentioned and SO important. ill have to practice this one for SURE!
    ive always known the material sector of my life was a serious struggle. And i only identified it in more recent years as the Earth category of my life seriously lacking, and even more recenty that i have to put a strong focus on my material gain and comfort and improve this sector of my life.
    Romantic love sector is aso a serious struggle.

    Frankly I have the most fun playing with Celtic spreads as a learning tool. It's the first spread I came across when I started trying tarot reading and even though it's daunting I feel like it's fun to build a narrative around. It's a way to start to interact with the cards on a larger scale and you shouldn't be afraid to try it. :))
