  • In this video, I share how I like to explore the seed stitch in my slow stitch fabric meditation book process. I use vintage Japanese boro fabric and Japanese sahiko thread in this demonstration but you can use any fabric and any thread. I love pondering and contemplating the meaning of the seed while I create this stitch because it invites more reflection and depth and helps me enter new spaces within myself while adding more meaning to what I am making with my hands.

Oh Emma! Seed stitch is probably my favorite stitch. I think it's because for me I use the "no rules" approach when I use it. When I use it decoratively, I tend to make two rules or guidelines-use the same size stitch and stay in a pre-determined area. But I really love using variegated thread and then growing the stitch out getting larger and larger. I am not sure I have ever explored the contemplative aspect of this stitch or why I love it so much but you have given me something to explore in my practice. Thank you!!!

I love that you enjoy the seed stitch too, Michelle! It's such a fun one to explore. I'm glad you are feeling inspired to dip into the contemplative possibilities too and see where that takes you in your practice.

I am so so glad I found you. I have watched a few of your videos on your medication books. OH MY GOSH, I LOVE them so much , I am now on my 2nd book using the fabrics from a very old grain sack. I am loving this. I also have a channel where I do a variety of different things. I am letting all my subscribers know about your channel because I believe your inspiration needs to be shared. Blessings to you and thank you for all that you do.

Seed stitching is actually one of my favourite stitching. It’s so interesting to see your process of doing it, because I do it without stopping to look at it properly, if that makes sense. I stitch it randomly and all the way until the thread ends. Then, I like to look at it and be surprised by the shapes it created. I never undo anything, because I consider that to be my state of mind at that moment, but I may add more stitches if I feel that more “words” are needed 💙💜❤️💚🖤🧡💛💗♥️

So many kinds of stitches!!! Is there a “Bible” for stitches?

I know there really are so many stitches out there! I don't know of one book with all of the stitches out there but there are definitely wonderful books available that show a variety. I like to experiment with different ones and collect the ones that resonate with me, in that way I've kind of made my own reference library of stitches I like to work with.
