  • In this video, I share some of the slow stitched meditation books I have made and buried in the ground and unearthed. Some of them I washed in the lake near my house and some I washed in rainwater while it was pouring rain. I hope you enjoy seeing these books and maybe they'll inspire you to try burying a book too. I find this process deeply healing and mysterious, it connects intimately to the inner healing journey I have been on where I have been digging up what was buried long ago inside of me and unearthing pain and wounds to bring them into the light so they can heal.
I used a variety of materials for my fabric meditation books including vintage Japanese shibori, boro and kaya fabrics, naturally dyed and second hand linens, Tibetan yak down yarn from Love Fest Fibers, hand spun nettle yarn dyed with indigo from India, lotus seed meditation beads, found stones and Japanese sashiko threads.

Enjoyed hearing about how you bury your beautiful books and then how Mother Nature adds the finishing touch. Lovely.

As I once told you, I live in a city where I can’t bury books, but I loved that you washed your book in the rain and I immediately thought of doing that in my balcony, which is completely possible. When it rains, I could put one of my books outside and it would soak in the energy of the planet too.
I loved those books that fell apart. The other day, I rust dyed some pieces of old bed sheets and, as they were quite old, they came out ripped and I loved it. They seem like an ancient manuscript 💙💚❤️💜🖤💛💗♥️🧡

This was exactly what I needed right now! It sounds so therapeutic to sew these little journals and bury them to rediscover after a month! I've never done slow stitching but have been interested in trying it. Thank you so much for sharing 🥰

I’m so glad I found your videos! I’ve just started slow stitching with the idea of stitching all of my felted offcuts. Oh my goodness! I’ve gone down a rabbit hole of fun, creativity, inspiration, letting go, being present. You are such an inspiration! Not knowing this *was* the class, I jumped all over watching all of the videos. I’ve started my first little book after dyeing some linen and distressing it. We’ll see where it goes! Thank you!

Emma I at fascinated that you bury the books! Is there a meaning? I have to do one too! I love your books, thank you!

Hi Marci, thanks for asking, there is a deeper meaning to why I bury and then unearth the books. You can read about it here on my website if you'd like: deep-rooted-healing.com/art-projects/buried-books. It's a little long to write out here. ❤
