As of September 2023 Buddy Guy is 87 and still occasionally performs. Let's not forget about these great older artist who are still around. Blues artist like Buddy influenced everyone from Clapton, the Stones, Beatles, etc 🎼🎵🎶🎹

yeah the mix is gash. But this is one of the most interesting and influential blues sets of all time, playing around with switching between major and minor pentatonics all over the shop.. and such a raw tone. Buddy guys guitar shouldve been louder. For sure someone can sort it out with Ai or some other such technique.

This is what happens when you put Clapton on stage, Live, with someone else in his league. He's just so much better live when he's got someone like that pushing him. Both just incredible ✌️

Clapton has said that when he’s on stage with Buddy Guy there is a “Chemistry” that Eric says carries him beyond! Eric Clapton becomes ‘God’.

    • @sandmanCQB8541
      @sandmanCQB8541 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Mrkaycee7 There's a few people that Clapton has said that about.
Aside from the well known story about Clapton playing a Club gig one nite in London where Jimi Hendrix was in the audience (cause Jimi REALLY dug Eric and had wanted to meet and play with him so much, that when he was back in the States and was asked by Chas Chandler, his manager, and former member of The Animals, he asked Chas, "can you introduce me to Eric Clapton ?" Chas said yes, and up until that point, Eric hadn't heard Jimi play, he just knew he was really good from what Pete Townsend and Jeff Beck had told him. They met backstage briefly and Jimi asked if he could sit in on a few songs, and Eric agreed, but it was said that Ginger had "mixed feelings", whatever that meant.
So when Jimi got up on stage for "Killing Floor", Eric literally walked Offstage, and according to Chas, was backstage power smoking a cigarette and told Chas "You never told me he was T
HAT GOOD. Chad's account was that Eric was totally shook, and in total disbelief at how incredibly talented Jimi was. This was in October 1st of '66, when I was born a little over a week later (on a personal note).
There were conflicting views of what happened, Eric saying that "Jimi played it exactly as it should be played, and blew me away, normally if you're jamming with someone the first time, most guys will hold back a bit, but Jimi went for it,
playing with his teeth, behind his back, on the floor, doing his splits and just playing how he played.
Clapton had positive memories of the night, but there are different accounts from other people like Chas Chandler, who said that Clapton was backstage, pale, shaking, and so overwhelmed he could hardly talk, except to say "You NEVER told me he was THIS FUCKING GOOD !!!".
To Jimi's credit, while he was doing his thing onstage, he caught a glimpse of Clapton backstage, and realized that he was being rude by being a guest, and almost stealing the Show, but he was in his groove and just kept going.
Fast forward a couple of Decades, and you have Stevie Ray Vaughan. Eric said that Stevie was a "Pure source, never was at a lack of what nite to hit next, and like his guitar was plugged into his Soul. Eric went as far as saying that Stevie was one of the only people he was actually intimidated to be onstage with. Considering that's coming from Eric Clapton, there's really no form of higher compliment.
Going out on a limb here, but I'd guess you probably like the Allman Brothers. I've seen them, gotta be close to or more than 100 times. I was at a bunch of the Beacon Theater "Residencies" they used to play, and saw their 30th and 40th Anniversary Shows. 2009 was their 40th Anniversary Tour, and I had front row for a few nites. Some on Gregg's side, some on the other side. When Warren Haynes said "Will y'all please help me welcome Mr Eric Clapton to the stage, the roar from the crowd was so intense, I thought the Roof was about to explode off the building. The Allman's are one of the best "Jam" Bands there ever were. So stepping on their Stage, you better have a lot more than just your "A Game". Eric never disappoints, and you can find the Show here if you just Search it. They did a version of Elizabeth Reed that was unreal, and Eric really got to dig in and go for it. After their Encore, Layla, with Derek Trucks being part of the group, and probably one of the worlds best Slide players since Duane, as they were walking Offstage, I heard Eric say to Derek, "I don't think I've played like that since 1969". And from all the times I've seen him back to his '78 SlowHand Tour, he was on fire. But it's when he plays with Bands, or just other Guitarists who can not only keep up with him, but push him to where he gets in that zone and is on a whole different level, that's where he really shines. Like at any of his Crossroads Tours, when he gets to play with those musicians at that level, he just kills it. I've honestly never left any Clapton show I've seen (dozens upon dozens) since the first one I saw in '78, feeling like I missed something, or that Clapton wasn't "having a good night".
He's consistently been amazing every time, and he really doesn't show any signs of slowing down. ✌️

@@sandmanCQB8541 yes, I’m familiar with that moment when Eric Clapton later stated after being blown away from watching Jimi Hendrix that later went home and practiced hard. You are aware that they became great friends and when Jimi died, Eric was crushed emotionally and went into seclusion for over two years. It wasn’t until Peter Townsend convinced Eric that he come out and play with him and other well known musicians and it became ‘Live At The Rainbow Club’. A classic!

    • @sandmanCQB8541

@@Mrkaycee7 Eric had actually found a Left Handed Stratocaster, and both he and Jimi were going (separately) to see a Sly and the Family Stone at the Lyceum Theater. Eric brought it with him to give to Jimi after the Show, but Jimi didn't show up, and the very next day, Eric found out why. In a really emotionally charged interview when that was brought up by Eric, he told the Interviewer that he was at home, holding this left handed Strat, and at that point in the interview, you could visibly see Eric reliving that moment, and the film faded out as Eric started to cry. He was really broken up about it.
And yeah, as he said, his life spiraled out of control as he sank really deep into his heroin addiction. That really wasn't "Hendrix related" (it was because he had written "Layla and other Assorted Love Songs" for Patti Boyd, and although he played the entire album for her before it was released to the public, she was "awed" by it, but couldn't leave George at that point yet. I'm sure losing Jimi at the same time didn't help matters either)
It was (I'm pretty sure) January of '73 that Pete Townsend got Eric back on his feet and they did the "Rainbow Concert" at The Rainbow Theater. Most people really credit Pete for saving Eric's life, cause at the rate he was going, it was a miracle he didn't OD. Women can really mess us up in the head man, I don't think there's a single guy who doesn't have at least one "Patti Boyd" equivalent in their life. But thank God for Pete, as well as all the other Artists that contributed.
The early 70s were definitely the toughest of times for Eric. Thank God he made it thru, the amount of incredible music he made after that was phenomenal, not to make light of the incredible music he made prior to it.
The man is an absolute living legend, and has been, literally since the early to mid 60s.
Only person Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 3 times, and the list of Awards he's been given is astounding. Lifetime Achievement Award, but the crazy thing is, he's done SO much more since then, I honestly think he deserves another one.
It's nice to talk to someone who appreciates all he's done in his career, and even at 79, he's still going strong. ✌️

@@sandmanCQB8541 Thank you for your clarification of the timeline following the tragic death of the great Jimi Hendrix. As you well know while Hendrix was in the Army he was very influenced by the young Eric Clapton.
Allow me to boast that I have seen Eric Clapton live in Montreal three glorious times. I’m 75 and my life changed forever when I heard Cream for the first time. That guitar sounded so full and powerful unlike the common thin sound that filled the airwaves for couple of decades. You know, great blues artists have showered him with praise because Eric Clapton lived the blues in his emotionally charged and sometimes tragic life. Eric Clapton shuns this quote by a renown blues artist and if my memory serves me, it was B.B. King who said that Eric Clapton is one of them because “he can play the note between the note”. He is and always has been my favourite artist. God bless that man and his music.
      Great talking to you man!

This comment may be neither here nor there but I've seen Eric Clapton in concert many times, always great. However, I've only seen Buddy Guy once. it was 1990 at the Atlanta Blues Festival. I was on the front row. When Buddy played I was in awe! I was dancing to his music and about mid way through his concert he walked down and in the aisle of the front row, but stopped in front of me and danced/played guitar for a couple of minutes before getting back on stage. I know I was grinning bigger than a mule eating briars! That was such a thrill for me! One of my most memorable concerts ever!

Obrigado

Honestly, nothing against "slow hand" but Buddy was being very nice to him and wasn't trying to steal the show. Please check out Buddy Guy live performances and see for yourself!

It's definitely a recording/mixing issue. These guys are both monsters live!!
Buddy is actually coming to our not so big town in Arkansas next month 5/17.
Front Row Bitches!!! He will be loud enough 🎸 Glad he switched to Fender

The show was recorded especially for EC's uk south bank show - so focused on his playing the most, and was mixed as it is for the program - EC has stated he wished buddy could have been mixed up more in the final broadcast.........

Can't believe it was 1987. I was there in the front row and thought that Buddy was equally loud if not louder and recall commenting that I felt EC overshadowed - so perhaps they overcompensated in the final mix. But I am a bit Mutton and Jeff. LOL
. As for those posting comments regarding EC's ego and stealing the show they obviously never met him. At 20.50 Buddy breaks a string and their response shows the fun these two blues legends were having jamming.

Great comment. What the audio crew did to Buddy’s amp and the neglect is beyond belief and words. Such great BBC camera and lighting but to have no signal on Buddy’s amp, I can’t comprehend that. Glad you were there. Was Clapton’s EC Ghost or Alien Stratocaster entity there during Worried Life Blues. Because Buddy’s amp sure wasn’t.

I rented a car to get to see Buddy in California - I'd heard he was going to be in Redding 3-5-20. I live in SF (DC-1, COL-6, a Ft Lauderdale NYE after the Fender Endorsement (he played the Best on that GUILD in the early & mid '80s- his own Mid-life) That was the last PRE-VID-19 show & did 90-95 up 200+ miles in a rental reading my card on the phone for the first time ever as I rolled to get there.
Only Buddy Guy shows made me & a few others jolt up, spaz outta chairs. NOBODY ELSE. EV-ER. HE CAN BE GRACIOUS & LET SRV🎉 PLAY W/HIMSELF. IT WAS GOOD FOR THE GENRE-PERIOD!
NOBODY ELSE & HE'S 87 NOW. I JUST SAW HIM IN Rohnert Park on August 4 & the 6th at Stern Grove in SF.
IF HALF - MOST OF THESE 'FENDER FANS' SAW HIM BACK THEN - (& BEFORE I STARTED TO AS WELL). ONLY BUDDY GUY. HIS GRANDSON GREG IS A NICE GUY & WEARS HIS GENES ON THE OUTSIDE - HE'S GOT A FUTURE. BUDDY DOESN'T SEEM TO BE INTO THE MEET 'N GREETS AS HE USED TO BUT HE'S GOT A RIGHT! NO SET LISTS, BROKEN STRINGS,...
