This was the age when bands got it done on stage. You got got what you paid for when you bought that ticket. No background tracks. You got the real show.
This is real music. This was before Auto Tune. They did not call Steve Perry "The Voice" for nothing. This is just pure raw talent! Hope you feel better soon. Love your reaction!
Same here!!! Saw them for their Frontiers tour. They had 3 sold out shows, where my best friend and I saw the last 2 shows. And for their Raised On Radio tour, all in Houston, Tx!!
I’m 57 years old and to this day the Journey concert I went to at The Spectrum in Philly in 1986 while I was in the Army stationed at Fort Dix is the best live performance I have ever seen. Journey is better live than recorded and I feel sorry for this generation to have not been able to witness it. Thank goodness for these videos
He does sound that good. In fairness, the sound has probably been remastered because it’s do old. But Steve’s a rarity. All the dings from that same 83 show are great.
It sounds great before remastering.... just remastered does bring out crispness and hopefully.... did not add autotune or pitch correction as it would not be needed.
Yes, Steve Perry had an amazing voice! Nicknamed "THE Voice" by many for a reason! 🧡 This is such a beautiful song.🍁 Seems like talented people do sound that good live! 🧡 Nice reaction. Praying you feel better soon!!🙏 Could you react to: "An Everlasting Love" by Andy Gibb (written by his brother Barry Gibb) It is one of Barry Gibb's best songs! It has the BeeGees disco era sound to it but different.❤❤❤
I saw Journey 5 times in concert in the 80's & I can verify Steve was always perfect! Really the whole band was always perfect. Hope you feel better soon!
I saw Journey 4 times in the early years of he 70s/80's ( Gregg Rollie on a couple and Jonathan Cain for 2 others) Steve Perry ( and they band are really THAT GOOD live. I've to around 200 concerts in my years and there are a few singers who actually just blow me away that they are even better live than on records: Steve Perry, Ann Wilson of Heart and Geoff Tate of Queensryche are my top three. Just amazing. Another live song from Journey is Send her My Love and The Girl Can't Help it
#1 must is "Mother, Father" from this same show. After that, take your pick: Any Way You Want It, Stone In Love, Line Of Fire, Where Were You all from this same show. Girl Can't Help It, Be Good To Yourself, I'll Be Alright Without You, Raised On Radio live 1986. Walks Like A Lady, Feelin' That Way / Anytime, Just The Same Way, Still They Ride from various shows. Dixie Highway from the live album Captured is also a great, high-energy song.
That entire concert is still on TH-cam (remastered) & the whole concert is phenomenal. It's hard to realize that was back in 11/6/81... 43 years ago. Holy cats, I'm getting old!😂 Even though I was never fortunate enough to have seen Journey in concert when Perry was with them, my mom and brother saw them in concert about a year before that & it was one of those concerts my mom treasured to the point I recently discovered she had kept her ticket stub. Even with her advanced stages of dementia, I can pull up anything with Steve Perry, and she'll chime right in & state who it is with glee. As for his ability to sound that good in concert, Johnathan Cain once commented that he was amazed to discover Steve sounded just as good whether it was practice, in studio, or live. Perry was a perfectionist. Steve was also a drummer, btw. Thank God for Sam Cooke, whose amazing vocals were the first major influence on Steve's desire to sing (Cupid being the first song catching Perry's ear & interest, if I remember correctly). If you go listen to some of Sam's songs, you definitely can pick up on that influence connection. Even though at his age he may not be the vocal powerhouse he was in those days, Steve's return to singing in recent years has been a long-awaited gift. He came out with "Traces" a few yrs ago and has just released a Christmas album.😊
It's not only Steve Perry voice. It's also Neil Schon on guitar, Johnatan Cain on keyboards, Ross Valory on bass and Steve Smith on Drums, all great musicians that together maid this great music and amazing live performaces.
I appreciate you reacting while ill. It was a great reaction and I'm glad you're looking for more live Journey. I'd like to recommend two of my favs, "Mother, Father" from Houston 1981 and "Still They Ride" from Tokyo 1983. Steve had the flu for the Tokyo concert but he still sounded awesome. I hope you feel better soon and I'd love to hear your thoughts on these songs.
The record studio told Journey that Nea's guitar solo was too long for radio play and that they needed to shorten it!! Steve Perry had a fit!! Steve told them, 'if the radio station wants to cut it for the next song, I'm fine with that!!' But we are NOT going to SHORTEN IT!!'. After some rounds about the solo. Both parties agreed to keep the solo!! This Houston concert is so AMAZING!!! However, if you want to see Perry running around and sing, here you go ...... 'Escape, Keep On Running, Dead Or Alive, Stone In Love, Where Were You and Any Way You Want It!!'
Back in the day, you had to be good to get through the record company gatekeepers, so many of the musicians were way better than most if understood. Steve Perry was one of the rare, best of the best, out of the groups that did get through. During the 80’s they unfortunately got labeled ‘arena rock’ or ‘corporate rock’ & a lot of young people wrote them off as if their music was somehow not true art. I know people today that still think that way about them. It’s nice to see younger people, who are unaffected by the opinions of the past, being able to see these great musicians with no bias going into it.
If you want live performances, do "Girl Can't Help It" and "I'll be Alright Without You" and "Open Arms" . "Faithfully" and "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" aren't live, just mixes of concert footage. Both really show off Steve's vocal prowess.
Another great voice (different but great) is Ian Gillan/Deep Purple. Listen to Sweet Child in Time or Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar when he played Jesus.
Maybe you don’t read all your comments (obviously if you don’t you won’t see this one) but I’ve commented before along with others that you don’t know what you are missing without headphones or even some earbuds! Dude, it’s night and day and to hear in stereo and sounds you wouldn’t hear without them! Just a suggestion, as we love your appreciation of this classic music, feedback and research!
It's the age when artists were phenomenal at what they did. Just pure music.
Agree, pure, real talent. So much of it in the 80s. We were so spoiled.
His fans nicknamed him "The Voice" for a reason. Me included.
First coined by Jon Bon Jovi

You need to hear "Mother, Father" from the same Houston 1981 show. Absolutely epic . Flawless vocals by "THE VOICE".
This is real music. This was before Auto Tune. They did not call Steve Perry "The Voice" for nothing. This is just pure raw talent! Hope you feel better soon. Love your reaction!
The Voice. Perfection!
Another band I was lucky enough to see in their prime
The 80's were a great time for concerts ❤
@moniquesewell2670 Yes they were
Same here!!! Saw them for their Frontiers tour. They had 3 sold out shows, where my best friend and I saw the last 2 shows. And for their Raised On Radio tour, all in Houston, Tx!!
@@moniquesewell2670 ........ Yeah it was!!!!
He is incredible. Saw 2 of his concerts and he sounded better that the recorded version.
No autotune, no lip sync!
Ahhhh.... the golden age of music, musicians and all talent!! 66 yr. old and Steve STILL makes me weak in the knees!!
I saw Journey in 1980 and again in 2019. So glad I saw them with Steve. He was phenominal! ❤
i remember seeing you at both shows you had on the same shirt as Steve in this Video.
Saw them 'LIVE' and, yes, Perry's voice is THAT GOOD!!! ❤
Me too.
Great Tour in 81, saw them. Amazing live, no Auto Tune just talent
Check out Journey Mother Father live in Houston and Wheel in the Sky live in Osaka. Yes they were even better live ❤❤❤❤
Feel better soon
Outstanding vocal performance.
You should listen to Don't Stop Believing and Stoned In Love.
Live he sounds better than the studio version!

Yes, we're lucky this whole concert was filmed for MTV, which means the sound quality is really good.
He does sound that good. In fairness, the sound has probably been remastered because it’s do old. But Steve’s a rarity.

This was Journey at the top of their game and Neal Schon always played melodic solos that served the song not being show off pieces for an ego boost.
I hope you're feeling better very soon. 😊
MY BROTHER THEY HAVE A WHOLE ALBUM THAT IS LIVE!!! AND IT'S JUST AS SCARY...😮😮😮
Stone in Love is another great jam.
I liked your reaction. Steve Perry is the best. I hope you feel better soon.
Also check out "Journey - Stone In Love (Live 1981: Escape Tour - 2022 HD Remaster)" from the same show... rock 'n roll, baby...
Steve was incredible. The whole band was. I was fortunate enough to see them live back in the 80’s.
One of my all time favorite guitar solos at the end! ❤
What's more impressive is that these bands didn't have auto tune back then.
He is incredible. Saw 2 of his concerts and he sounded better that the recorded version. Every song was excellent.
truly amazing
Steve is incredible & btw you sound just like me atm 🥴🤧😮💨
A big bunch of bands in the 70's and 80's sounded GREAT LIVE, I went to their concerts

Two of the greatest rock singers of all time: Steve Perry (Journey) and Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Free and Queen).
Steve Scary haha
Another great voice (different but great) is Ian Gillan/Deep Purple. Listen to Sweet Child in Time or Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar when he played Jesus.
From the time of real talent, not autotune,a$$ shaking and attitude which are considered to be talent today
Please listen to wherl in tge sky, Loving, touching, squeezing and lights, early Journey version..watch the videos ...Amazing

Perry then Schon. Doesn't get better then that .
Back when people could actually sing.
Oh my goodness, your cough is bad. Sounds like it must be painful.
