Thank you so, so, so much for preserving this ride and sharing it! My god, it never occurred to me I could Google this... I'm crying so hard right now, thank you, thank you!! I was 6 when I went on this ride with my Daddy... He had told me that I was a bad driver and it has always been one of my fondest memories. I had a breakdown tonight and I started googling things from my childhood...and I found this. He passed suddenly in 2010, and...just, thank you. My god, thank you. I was devastated that this rude was replaced even as a kid when he was still alive...knowing it's been preserved in any way, just...ahaha...thank you!!!
I love this. So much. I lost my dad in 2010 as well. And, I remember taking this ride with him. Around the same age. That trip was amazing for us. And, I hope it was amazing for you too, at the time. 😍😍😍💗💗
God, this is so wild. I think of 1998 as being forever ago, but when this video was uploaded, it had only been 8 years since it closed! Incredible! Thank you for posting these videos so those of us who couldn't experience it (or just want to re-live the experience) can do so!
So basically, this toad drives you round carelessly, gets hit by a train then sent to hell. The ride closes down and a staue of that toad is in the pet cemetary at the Haunted Mansion ride... Disney never fails to freak me out
That ride scared me to tears as a kid - no wonder...still miss it though - was at Disney yesterday and it's just not the same. All the good rides are gone...20,000 leagues under the sea was good too
Please You Tube. Do not Remove this Great Video 👍I Thank God 🙏 My Mom and Dad to take me as a Child to Ride on This Side of WDW MTWR The Left Side ; Track 2 This Video. I was 12 in 1979, when I Enjoyed Watching the Devil Angels as the doors swung open while waiting at the Passenger Loading Dock. When We rode through , I saw the Scenes , the Train and then the Devil Angels Scene. I knew that were at the end of the ride. Thank you Cameraman for the accurate detailed pause focus of the Hell Scene. My Favorite Part of the Ride. Just for my entertaining only. Beautiful 😍 Props. I miss this Ride Terribly. 😔 😟.
I work at Disney World in Fantasy Land on the Winnie the Pooh ride and the reason they closed Mr. Toad was because it was unpopular and not many people know who Mr. Toad was. A survery was done and many more people know who Winnie the Pooh was, so it was changed, and it has been more popular than Mr. Toad. Was a good ride though, I will admit. Wish they could have had both...
@aislingniriada1989 This track featured Toad's trophy room and an encounter with a band of gypsies, and a trip to Winky's pub; the other track did not.
Thanks for the video! I never got to go on it because by the time I had the chance, it was gone. I really wish they would bring it back though! I would have liked to go on it!
You know, why have they never brought about a Sleepy Hollow ride? If they were going to get rid of Mr. Toad the least they could've done would be to go the other direction of Ichabod. Now THAT would've been a scary, fun ride. The Headless Horseman could probably give the witch in SWSA a run for her money.:)
I was five when they took this out, but i still remember parts of it vividly. I really wish they had kept it, although between the pub, and hell, and gunslinging weasels, i can see why they opted to close it....but it was still the best....
God, this ride traumatized me when I was a kid - mostly because of the Hell scene. I never knew that scene was called Hell until now and it's like WTF... Hell in a kid's ride?! lol. oh yeah and don't forget about the beer. :P
I hated this ride as a kid--nonetheless I still went on it. It scared the crud out of me because I always sat in the driver's side of the car with my mom. At the end, when I saw the devil, all I could think was what a horrible driver I was I had literally drove my mom to hell. Strangely enough the Snow White ride--back when Snow White was absent from the ride was my favorite ride as a child.
This was two years after my first time at Disneyworld, at age 4. Thanks for filming and uploading both! Was the hell room heated like it is at Disneyland? (While I've been to Disneyworld five times, I've never been to Disneyland; as I live in Michigan, Florida is closer to California.)
@bp1191 No, you also get hit by a train in the California version; you also wander into a warehouse full of dynamite...and I think our Hell scene was scarier :)
God how i miss old disney world and old disney rides, the new ones, and “refurbished” ones are just not magical to me. i am so mad, and heartbroken they got rid of the old rides and shows, why couldn't they just build new stuff elsewhere, like in another state!
@luisrox94 it was released on video. i had it when i was a kid.. It's only been released in very limited amounts on DVD.. I can't wait until they release it for real.. Although, i'd say it'll be at least 50 years from now before they do
@aust501 Well what's more likely to frighten a child? The devil in Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, or the heffalumps and woozles in the Pooh ride that replaced it?
BramGroatFilms The Winnie The Pooh ride scared me when I was young, still does, but the train scene from this ride was my favorite part. R.I.P railroad crossing and a super realistic train with a whistle so loud you can hear it mutiple times in the ride.
This was always one of my favorite rides in the Magic Kingdom, one of the funnest.....why didnt they get rid of the LAME Snow White's Adventures. THAT used to be scary until they messed with it and added Snow White and toned down the scary scenes. They really messed up Fantasyland at WDW. First, the removed the Mickey Mouse review and shipped it off to Tokyo. Then they toned down Snow White and got rid of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea AND Mr Toad.
Johnny Casas that's why DL Fantasyland is better we still have toad and Snow White (even if it is less scary) and we also have Matterhorn and Pinocchio and in tommorowland we still have submarine voyage but it's finding nemo
That was pretty cool that the ride had two different tracks. Why'd Winnie the Pooh have to replace that ride? They had plenty of room to build it in another area!
HA! I remember that bright light scaring the total crap out of me as a little kid. Funny I don't even rememebr the devils scaring me, just that damn light.
Ah yes. That's the track I was on in 1990. This ride scared me so badly, I was crying for a pretty long time afterwards. So, needless to say, i'm one of the few that does NOT miss this ride. Infact, I came out of the Pooh ride thinking" Why couldn't THAT have been there when I was six?"
for the record, they replaced Alien Encounter too. I think Toad got removed because it's based on a movie that pretty much NO ONE knows XD I hadn't seen the movie when I rode it, which was probably why I hated it as a kid
SPOILER (Part 3)- They figure out he is innocent, and they want to help him catch the ring leader (Winky), and the weasels. His friends are a badger, mole, and a rat. They go to Toad Hall because the weasels have the deed even though they must have stoled that car. They try to get the deed, they eventually get the deed from Winky. Mr. Toad is cleared of any wrong doing at the end of the movie / cartoon, he is flying a plane. The friends are like, Oh no! First, he had carriage, car, and now.
What I think should of happend at the end of the ride: u get on the train tracks. u keep going intil u see the train light. let the train horn blow. then right at the last second, u turn left or right off the track. then u go through a door and thats the end!
i hear they are expanding fantasyland and getting rid of toontown fair..i hope they put this ride back..especially since i just saw a mr toads' wild ride shirt at the emporium on main street!!
@aust501 I agree and they should have done the same thing they did to winnie the pooh in disneyland. Find a very bad place for it in frontierland. I have never been on this cause the first time I went to disney world was in 2000 and this was already gone but I can see this was an amazing ride nothing that winnie the pooh is. I do like winnie the pooh but I do really believe this is MUCH better.
Both parks lost good rides (Mr. Toad, and for California, the coutry bear jamboree) to a ride that is only good for little kids. I hear that in Florida Pooh has a long line, but in california there is almost always a 10 minute or less wait.
(SPOILER Continued)- He is sent to a castle, where he is locked up. He escapes lockup because his talking horse helps him out of lockup. The police are after him. He finds a a black train (sound familiar), and goes on it. He jumps off the train, and goes into the ocean. He is stuck with a ball and chain in the ocean (because he didn't take it off). The thing is that you think he might be dead, but he comes back to his friends house, and talks to them. (Continued next comment)
SPOILER- Information on Mr. Toad Cartoon / Movie -They made a cartoon before this ride came out. Mr. Toad has a bugey and carriage. He sees a new motor-car. He wants it. He asks if he could buy it from these weasels. He gives them the deed to Toad Hall (which is the building you are in- in ride). They say he can have it. They make him act like he stole the car. The bar dude is the ring leader of the weasels (bald dude). He goes to court, and is found guilty.(Continued next comment)
I was thinking of that. Put it next to the Mary Poppins area they’re putting at the uk pavilion, use half of a backstage building, add new effects and animation screens (like in Shanghai Disneyland’s Peter Pan ride), keep the two tracks and maybe make 3 dimensional figures of the characters. As for the heck scene in the end, keep the devils the same but make satan look less terrifying and one of the screen animated characters used in the ride.
Does anybody know what's going on in the train tunnel here? It seems like the car stopped immediately after activating the audio reels for the oncoming train and collision but just short of actually entering the middle segment of the tunnel and activating the overhead light itself, giving the impression that the light "comes in too late". You can also hear what sounds like a scoreboard timing out when the light appears, although I'm not sure why exactly that is. You can hear it in several other videos as well, but not as clearly as you can in this one.
Yes it appears that's pretty much what happened. Only difference I see follows- there are like 3 doors within the train tunnel (to compartmentalize the sound effects and light). From what I can tell, in the second and third "room" within the tunnel between those doors plays a continuous loop of a weird, sci-fi, wobbly sounding sound effect. that's what I think you hear as a "scoreboard timing out" sound effect. After watching various videos I've found of WDW's MTWR, it appears that this loop plays randomly, so what you hear in this video is not timed with the light but just a random portion of the sound loop the ride car happened upon.
@@matts.6904 I'm not referring to the ghastly "limbo" ambiance, but instead some kind of subtle, guttural, buzzer-type noise which is definitely a physical sound and not just a pre-recorded audio loop. It's kind of hard to describe, and it's a little bit muffled and vague in the video, but you can definitely make it out if you listen closely.
@@goatprince1 You mean right at 2:46? I'm pretty certain it is part of the "limbo" sound loop. After watching many videos of this ride and audio recordings, I know that sound plays at different "intensities" on certain points of it. On my YT channel, I made a playlist of every WDW MTWR video I could find here on YT- it is heard on several of them and doesn't always happen with the light.
@@matts.6904 Yeah, that's the right time stamp, although I'm still not sure what the sound is. If it's actually part of the background ambiance, then it's either an incredibly strange inclusion or it just turns up weird in old recordings, whatever it's supposed to be. The sound can also be heard in this upload (th-cam.com/video/t7JHXqkbaBE/w-d-xo.html) at 2:15, albeit not as clearly and well after the train headlight has been passed. The fact that I can only hear the sound in a very small handful of videos is what has me hesitant to believe it's part of the limbo ambiance. However, I am considering the possibility that I'm actually just conflating a minor physical sound coming from somewhere within the tunnel with a soft, barely-audible cymbal crash within the ambiance. It's all so confusing, trying to make out these tiny details in VHS recordings from over twenty years ago.
@@goatprince1 You can also hear it very well on the audio of the left track side from this recording at 2:11 www.retrowdw.com/blogs/kingdom-of-memories/take-audio-trip-though-mr-toads-wild-ride-other-fantasyland-recordings/
haha I rode this side when I was 7 with my MUCH older brother (he was like 26)....my brother blamed me for driving into the train, and that I killed us! haha
Perhaps, but I rarely see Pooh with a short line either. I guess it's because I was scared to death of this ride as a kid but i'm kinda biased as to which I personally prefer ^^;
@luisrox94 it was released but soon banned for racism(your thinking "how is it racist?" i feel the same) my mom actualy got a copy of the movie and we watched it
Hmmm...so on this track, you get to see Toad's trophy room, Toad disrupts a gypsy camp and the Weasels are hiding out in Winky's Tavern... I like both tracks...although as I mentioned in the Track 1 video, DL's "Hell" is better :)
Disneyland version works so much better because the track is more narrow and claustrophobic and the voice over. This Disneyworld version lacks all of that. No wonder it was closed down.
The replaced it with Winnie the Pooh. They should be ashamed of themselves. This was my favorite ride at Magic Kingdom. I was so sad when they shut this ride down. Winnie the Pooh is a terrible ride on top of that. I'm not just saying that because I miss Mr Toad. It really is bad. If yiu haven't I recommend you dont but if you do you will understand.

Just like the right track I thank you again for an excellent quality video. If only Whinnie the Pooh had those awesome black-lights and devils...

Wooow looks like funn! So sad itz gone! :( this one seems more funn than the rite track tho... Does anyone agree??
Perhaps, but I rarely see Pooh with a short line either. I guess it's because I was scared to death of this ride as a kid but i'm kinda biased as to which I personally prefer ^^;
Yes, but THAT ride still has lots of people riding it. Did Mr. toad?
@luisrox94
it was released but soon banned for racism(your thinking "how is it racist?" i feel the same)
my mom actualy got a copy of the movie and we watched it
i heard some staff ppl mentioning it
Hmmm...so on this track, you get to see Toad's trophy room, Toad disrupts a gypsy camp and the Weasels are hiding out in Winky's Tavern... I like both tracks...although as I mentioned in the Track 1 video, DL's "Hell" is better :)
OMG... you got stuck in H-E-double-hockey sticks... How humiliating was that?
They should have kept this ride and putted Winnie in Frontierland.
why are the characters flat and do the characters have to be flat
3:20 satan looks like Christopher Walken
@missmeganleah
Well, I think someone said that this was supposed to be Mr.Toad's nightmare.
What I mean to say is it won't happen unless they do a live action movie...
@headmouse Yeah. I see that. But what I'm saying is, whoever filmed this had the misfortune of seeing the ride stop in this particular area.
@CrystalJupiter Don't feel bad, I like the Pooh ride better too. For the same reasons why aust501 likes Mr. Toad better.
why do both tracks end up in hell????
yes
I DON’T KNOW DISNEY SOMEHOW WANTED TO PUT TOAD IN HECK THAT AIN’T NICE FOR SOMEONE WHOS RICH BULLY WALT BAD! anyways all versions do the same
Disneylands version is sooo much better even the exterior and soo much scarier
Said no one ever........
this side is more like the one in disneyland
Disneyland version works so much better because the track is more narrow and claustrophobic and the voice over. This Disneyworld version lacks all of that. No wonder it was closed down.
yeah, 'cause Winnie the Pooh makes SOOO much sense in Liberty Square XD
The replaced it with Winnie the Pooh. They should be ashamed of themselves. This was my favorite ride at Magic Kingdom. I was so sad when they shut this ride down. Winnie the Pooh is a terrible ride on top of that. I'm not just saying that because I miss Mr Toad. It really is bad. If yiu haven't I recommend you dont but if you do you will understand.
or it could have just been financial trouble, that's always the biggest priority reason for why Disney closes it's attractions.
The tracks are going backwards
Anyone watching this in 2023?
Call me crazy, but I feel like the hell scene is better at Disneyland. This one has more of a pink color pallet while DL’s has a more menacing red.
