I had acquired a pen off of Amozon,, and it was near impossible to use it. After getting a good close look at the nib, I could see why. Than I found this video & I'm so grateful to have watched it! I followed along in sanding my pen nib, and now, it may not be perfect, but it is far and away a better nib than it was before. I wish I could show you the before and after pictures!! Thank you so much for this tip on finishing a nib!!
Just the instructions I was looking for! Will this process work to make the nib(s) finer on my pens (more of a pointed tip)? They have no problem with flow but I prefer a finer writing line and have almost given these up as they are too broad.
Thanks Lucas! Great Three part video. Will you be making a video on how to make an Italic nib for calligraphy? Of can we do the same thing as in this video, but just sand it down to a flat tip?
If I'm just going to sand one nib and don't want to buy many sheets for each grit mentioned, is it impossible for me to do the entire process with only 2000 grit or would it just be very inefficient?
You can buy a set of sandpaper pretty cheap, around $4 and have a couple pieces of each grit. I guess if you only want to use 2000 grit it would work, just would take much longer.
I have also a glass pen it’s 👍 great but the ink itself gets stuck I tried writing with and it just gets ink all over my paper will the ink flow out if I sand it I don’t what to do
Well, the type of ink can make a difference in the ink flow. First I would look at the very tip of the nib and see if all of the channels go all the way to the tip. If not, sanding it could probably solve the problem.
This is great! Thank you for showing the process! The close ups help.
I followed along with a nail buffing block. Took my time and got my $1.50 AliExpress pen gliding across my paper. Thank you so much!
Thanks Lucas! The closeup shots of the nib really help to actually see what it is supposed to look like.
Thank you for this video! It just saved me from “junking” my favorite (color and shape) glass pen! Writes beautifully now!
This is really interesting, thanks. I've heard some stuff about sanding a glass pen, but this is the only demo I've seen.
Glad it was helpful! It's what I intend for this channel.

I would like to see a video on this too
Where do you get the sandpaper sheets ? Is there a particular brand or type ? I needed this video. Thanks for sharing.😄
Just needs to be waterproof silicon carbide. Amazon definitely has it, or a local hardware/hobby shop will probably have it

@@lucasmahoney968 🤩YES it works I sand it just like you said and my ink flows beautiful no more clogged ink thank you so much 😊
TFS! Out of interest what magnification are you using for your close-up shots?
I switch to a 35mm macro len.
