How to do a simple implosion pendant or cab.
มุมมอง 18K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I will show you how to make a dot implosion. As always, there are more than one way to do things and this is just one. I will be making other videos of them in the future. This is the first one that I learned and is basically foolproof. I recommend using stable colors until you are used to the process. Anyway, hope you like it. They are really fun to make. This video shows how to do a flip disc. It is second of two ways that I will be doing videos for. I find this is the more difficult of both ways that I know. I did a very basic dot implosion for the flip disc, and I didn't explain the process at all. I will making three videos just for dot implosions. How to open up a glass tube, or other hollow glass thing.

So this is probably one of the first things that you learn in lamp working, or glassblowing. I had done a stream awhile ago, and another glass worker had mentioned a way of opening up a glass tube that he had not seen before. After describing it, I realized it was the first way I had learned, and i had assumed that everyone knew how. So I tried to think of as many ways to open something hollow ...

    Just the instructions I was looking for! Will this process work to make the nib(s) finer on my pens (more of a pointed tip)? They have no problem with flow but I prefer a finer writing line and have almost given these up as they are too broad.

      Yes, fuming looks great with this style, but for trying it for the first time, I find that stable colors are the best. I know that fuming is also stable, but unless you are already very good at it, chances are you're going to burn out the sliver. So I find it easier for beginners to use stable colors that look good no matter how long you work the glass. And it's really hard to mess up dark cobalt and butterscotch.

  • @BeEpicMotivation

    Can you make a video on how to save glass that gets blown too thin? Like how do I condense it back to a even walled tube without it collapsing or popping a hole open? I have this issue when trying to do this with color because its hard to see the thickness of the glass. You are a great teacher and explain everything in great detail. I appreciate it

    • @culprit_glass
      @culprit_glass ปีที่แล้ว

      if your glass is too thin, get it real hot and condense it. wait for it to cool slightly before puffing it out evenly. (thin glass cools faster than thick), wait 5-10 seconds so the thick parts blow out more than the thin. repeat a few times until ur tubing is even. practise with a big bubble of clear glass and blow it paper thin. Then try to condense it back to stock tubing size.

    what if the nib was shaped like a D? the flat side for very thick lines, or calligraphy; the top of the D is much sharper for very thin lines; the bottom of the D could be a bit thicker than the top; and the round back could produce a variety of line shapes.
