Meditation is particularly helpful when it comes to creating space between you and your thoughts, enabling you to see those thoughts for what they truly are. It’s become increasingly beneficial for helping me to recognize the thoughts that contribute to behaviors that are not helpful to producing the outcomes I wish to see in my life.
This is so true, I finally quit smoking cold turkey during the summer using a similar method. Everytime I got a craving I just kept pushing it off. My procrastinating techniques finally paid off for once. Haha.
Amazing book and thank you for the video! Just one thing, never burn money! Donate them if you did not hold your end of the deal! You could make a difference in someone's life.
Brilliant.. I follow a similar method, but this can probably help much better.. Can't wait to try it. I call it the marshmallow method. I saw that kids who did well in the marshmallow test looked away or distracted them with something else, until the time was up. In fact I can tell if and when a child will fail - it they look at it for too long, try to touch it etc. And I also read in a spiritual book that desires/ impulses are like seeds. If you don't pay them any attention - they eventually dry up like a seed that can't sprout.
That's quite easy. Read the book and whenever you come across something that stands out for you write it down in your own words. At the end of the book you will have the summary. If it is still too much text, just repeat the same procedure with your text.
This is just stress management. I recognized the leaf meditation from a book about stress. Another meditation you can do is imagine you are submerged on water and bubbles are going out from you and going up. Imagine the bubbles as stress leaving your body
thanks for this video. i think i’ve realised i actually don’t have a willpower problem...i have huge willpower, but limited ability...when i overexert myself, giving myself headaches and exhaustion, more willpower is not what i need. this is a nice thing to realise! willpower vs ability are two different things, and depend on different things (emotion committment vs strength energy).
About the identity fact, I'd be very interested on what you say about "The Alter Ego Effect" by Todd Herman. It's about a concept called "clothed cognition", i.e. pulling off shifts in mindset by tapping into different personas via certain triggers (e.g. wearing something). Its tagline is, "A top performance expert reveals the secret behind many top athletes and executives: creating a heroic alter ego to activate when the chips are down." I've started reading it, quite interesting.
I got sick of reading this book. It's almost 300 pages long yet everything meaningful in the book can be summarized in 7 minutes. I feel like the whole book is just him trying to convince us to follow these steps that you described in the video. The problem is some of us don't need convincing lol, we just want to learn.
Well explained and summarized! Thank you for sharing. Interesting to know that the Willpower myth is like a self fulfilling prophecy.... it is an eye opener for me.
Happiness, Willpower, Focus etc, are affected by your energy level. That is why it is recommended you do your most important work before 12.00 noon each day. This is the time-frame when you are rested, have the most energy, and your mind is sharpest.
Maybe here we can reconsider Kellys theory as something temporary, which subsides according to this one, but maybe these waves are getting stronger according to her as we move into depletion energetically
There is no conflict. It is whatever you say it is. The power lays in your believes. What you believe most is what you will manifest. That's why most of these studies are ridiculous. They just reinforce the already existing believes in society, making it look like as if they have found out something. Which is true. But not as a law of nature, but just what the society believes during the actual zeitgeist. Free yourself from this garbage and the collective slumber, by investigating your own believes and then choose the ones that serve you better.
I have a very important meeting in an hour and I’m distracted by watching this useful book summary, still sitting in my pajamas at home 🙃Should I watch more or less to stop being distracted? Hmmm what? I’m confused 🤪
Burning money is probably the worst idea anyone has come up with. Money is a symbol, money is energy. Our elders thought to respect bread and money for a reason.
Me: Didn't you write the book Hooked; a book that was written to enable companies build products that keeps us feeding on distraction. Nir Eyal: Well, I know I wrote the book; but I feel like the companies are taking advantage of my book to exploit the public, so the book indistractable is my redemption! Me: I see...😄 Millennials: with Indistractable Nir, you're now forgiven for your offence of writing a book that enabled companies build apps which ruins our ability to focus!
I really like your channel, and I think it saves me a lot of time from reading books. But I have a little suggestion, personally I prefer the video just summarize what we have in one specific book instead of adding your subjective information or you can add it at the final of the video. I'd like to focus on knowing what's the book. When you combine this book with other book's opinions, I feel my understanding has been distracted. The summary of the book VS you personally learn from the book, I think it's better to be distinguished. Thank you. No judgement, just my personal suggestion, I do appreciate you and your videos.
5:14 The k-Safe is pretty weird. Here's something you can try that's even better, I'd say: As your "effort" pact, commit to doing some new habit you want to introduce before you do the old habit you want to diminish. For example, I wanted to exercise more and go on reddit less. Now, any time I get the urge-wave to go on reddit, I first do some form of exercise, whether that's 20 push-ups, 10 pull-ups, 20 bicycles crunches, 20 dips, or whatever. That way, I only go on reddit when I really want to, enough that I "earn" it by doing the thing I don't make enough time to do. I got the best of both worlds: I go on reddit vastly less and my arms are bigger than they've been since high-school! All without a k-Safe. Also... please do NOT announce that you are a vegetarian/vegan/whatever. We don't care lol
How about instead of burning the money you donate it to a charity you don't approve of/support I.e. meat eaters could donate to the vegan society etc. If it's a cause you loathe then you are still getting the same feelings as you would burning money and at least the money is going where it is needed.
The way you summarise books is amazing. You break it down into simple doable steps. Keep up the good work. It's making an impact

It would be great if you uploaded a video "Best books which I read in 2019"
Please make a video on how do you read a book and summarize it.
That's quite easy. Read the book and whenever you come across something that stands out for you write it down in your own words. At the end of the book you will have the summary. If it is still too much text, just repeat the same procedure with your text.

This TH-cam channel is more go to to learn, so I don't feel dumb watching entertainment. I even take notes like it's class time, lol.

These vids are excellent...instead of reading the whole book I got the summary of it under 8mins....keep going
FINALLY
I SEARCHED FOR THE WILLPOWER MYTH IN YOUR VIDEOS FOR SO LONG,
could not remember in which video it was.
I got sick of reading this book. It's almost 300 pages long yet everything meaningful in the book can be summarized in 7 minutes. I feel like the whole book is just him trying to convince us to follow these steps that you described in the video. The problem is some of us don't need convincing lol, we just want to learn.
That was an absolutely wonderful breakdown and interpretation of the book, 'INDISTRACTABLE' by Nir Eyal. Definitely worth a share.
Well explained and summarized!

Mee too
I've been trying to get my hands on his other book called Hooked. I didn't know about this one though!
I found it on Audible. Very good book.
Sweet. Our fingers were crossed for this. We'll start sending you traffic soon.
Huh..?
How can we resolve the apparent conflict between ego depletion being a myth and research by Kelly Mcgonicals willpower instinct?
Maybe here we can reconsider Kellys theory as something temporary, which subsides according to this one, but maybe these waves are getting stronger according to her as we move into depletion energetically

Wow Love it!! Thank you so much for this!
Good Summary Bro!💎
Love these videos
Very good video.
Please make a video on parenting book.

Have You done one on Extreme Ownership?
Great video thank you!!
Who's here before reading the book?
For Pre-reading so that we know what the books is all about
Good brother 🙂🙂
Why burn the money when you can just give it to the friend
Matt S i thought the same thing. Perhaps it is more visual sign of destruction of the money. But defacing the currency isn’t probably a great idea.
Because you'd probably end up feeling good about it and it could work against your goal
@productivitygame can you summurize outliers from Gladwell?
Your videos are amazing. You are going too fast in some places which is little tough for global audience to understand the words.

So they're saying you never run out of inner energy, you only think you do?
Nice
Question is, how to ride your urges?
Burning money is illegal in the United States and is punishable by fines not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.”
Burning cash seems really the worst use of those bills...
Instead of burning the money, why not give it to the friend?
Burning legal tender is illegal
You're Canadian?!
On a scale from 1 - 2: How happy are you?
hol'up, for a long time now I have believed that ego depletion was a real thing. so i guess take everything with a grain of salt
What do you mean with the grain of salt? Step by step?
@@nancydotimas1399 do not immediately accept things in your life.
You read the books so we don't have to!
Good ideas. But no one should promise a friend to burn a $100 bill. Give it to your friend or to a charity instead.
Burning money? Isn't that illegal?
why burn bills? Instead, make something good to a person in need. Donate it, give it to an unemployed person.
Folks, burning money is illegal...
try, Stickk or Beeminder
Burning money is illegal in US :)))))

Burning money? Better to take a cold shower... no?
I don't have 20 dollars
I urge to have a GF
