This video was great. I suffer from blepharitis. And I use to always think oh it’s just allergies. But I have been using baby shampoo on my eyes too and it works for me.
@@DrRupaWongVery helpful video! Big question I could not find answer to online anywhere is does it have to be baby shampoo or does regular foaming face wash do the same thing? Not sure if it’s some special ingredient about baby shampoo that makes it more effective. Also will a bar soap like cetaphil also work? What about a non foaming face wash like neutrogena? Would really appreciate your advice!! ❤❤❤
Exceptional video! I've been struggling with chronic blepharitis for two years. I've seen many doctors, even an eyelid specialist. Had steriod injections, antibiotics, told to do compresses and cleaning of the lids but not exactly how to do it or that i should compress 1st then clean and massage after. I think they assume I know exactly what to do. The management is in the specific details. Thank you for breaking it down and explaining it so detailed.
I was just diagnosed with this, so lucky to find this video.. helps me understand clearly what my doctors don't have the courtesy to explain. Thank you!
Great video! I have a better understanding of this issue for 16 years. Never once has my ophthalmologist informed me of this. Thank you for posting. And thank God for you tube.
I'm so glad this was helpful! If you have any other topics you would like me to post about feel free to leave your suggestions and remember to subscribe :-)
I have had goopy eyes in the morning and was getting ready to schedule an appointment with an eye doctor. You saved me the trip and a lot of anxiety. THank YOU!
So excellent! A model of how a TH-cam video should be done!! Thankfully I don’t have this condition but someone I know does. We watched this video together and I’m grateful and impressed - such helpful info, so well presented. Thank you!
Very informative. Thank you for presenting this so it is easily understood. My daughter suffered from this and now I understand why. Her specialist did not explain the causes and remedies. Love your videos😳.
I have suffered with blepharitis since in my forties - ok am now 68. I have found what works for me is Vicks vapo rub. As soon as I feel a flare starting I carefully apply the Vicks to my eyelid being careful not to get it into the eye. Your eyes will water like crazy and your nose will run. The more intense the flare the more my eyes water. I only have to apply this once and it clears up. I wash off the Vicks after my eyes stop watering and go about my business. Since I started doing this my flare ups only happen about every two to three years.
12 hours after reading this my eyelids are fine. They were so crusty my eyelids were closing! Thankyou. I have some other products ordered from Amazon recommended so I believe i might have ended this nightmare!!!
Thank you!!! I’m a COA & work in Ophthalmology with some amazing doctors & as I’m sure you know, we have the “Bleph” discussion what feels like a million times a day. I feel like you touched on so many highlights that patients have a hard time understanding & love that you emphasized lid hygiene as part of one’s daily skin care routine, because it really should be. Most beauty products & cleansers all say to avoid the eye, of course meaning not to get any of the harsh products into the eye itself, but your eyes & lids are skin too & deserve a little TLC like the rest of your body. There are product formulations out there for even the most sensitive of skin. Also love that you touched on Lipiflow & IPL. IPL has been a life changer for me, both medically for my own dry eye & Bleph, but also aesthetically for both facial & ocular Rosacea. I will highly recommend this video going forward. Keep the facts coming Doctor, I’ll be “keeping an eye out” for new videos… Every pun intended. lol 😂
No one really knows about it, research has developed over the last few years, treatment methods are yet to be discovered but at least we now know what’s causing our symptoms. I was diagnosed years ago and all they ever told me was to use baby shampoo.
I have dry eye and suffer from occasional eye discharge/irritation. What really works for me is Cetaphil GENTLE foaming facial cleanser, which you can find at any drugstore. It is great as you can massage it right into your eyelash area without any stinging or discomfort. The “Gentle” formula (not the regular foaming cleanser, as it has less harsh ingredients) is so gentle for my eyes that when it flares up, cleaning my eyes twice/day with this, clears it up very quickLy. As well, make sure you use a COTTON washcloth and change it frequently. I find that the synthetic facial makeup remover facecloths, irritate my eyes more and I can’t use them. I’ve struggled with this for years and I find that this helps. Thank you for your interesting video.
I just found out I had this about 2 days ago from a routine eye exam for new glasses after just thinking I had really bad allergies the past year or so....dr gave me some eye drops and suggested some wipes, both seem to have already provided some relief...thanks for the video as it cleared up some questions I had
Ever since I've been cleansing my eye(lid)s daily with Blephasol, my blepharitis has been almost 100% under control :) Sometimes my eyelid gets a little inflamed if my mascara is too old, or I've been scratching my eye lid with my nail, or something else that gets bacteria in them, cleansing them with Blephasol usually helps clearing within a day again! For hardcore infections, a warm cloth is indeed the way to go, after which I cleanse again. I'm so glad I've got it under control now, because it had been a problem for me for a good few years 😅 (I have sensitive skin by the way, and probably rosacea, but my problems occurred in my early twenties.)
This is the best explanation I have seen! I've had Blepharitis for years and I'm just now doing something about it. I will do exactly what you recommend! Thank you very much!
Life saver. My optometrist has given me antibiotics cream for dry eyes for 3yrs now. Doesn't work. My gp says I have Bletharitis, my eyes burn, my eyelashes are always crusty my vision gets blurry. Also my lashes grow in different directions. Nightmare. One point to every one if I may BUY NEW PILLOWS twice a year. It makes a big difference as well. Good luck everyone.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video!. You explain all the symptoms so well and now I understand why my eyelids are swollen and my eyes feel stuffy when I wake up in the morning . I’m also sensitive to sunlight and the screen on my tv and my cellular.
Before having both cataract ops the nurse told me to rub my closed eyes with Johnson and Johnson baby lotion and then use a cotton bud to wipe it off. Cleared it up in no time and safely had cataract ops with NO problems. 17 yrs ago. Had it an odd time some then but quickly goes away. 👍
Great job on this video!! I just wanted to share a couple of things: I have noticed exacerbated symptoms with the cosmetic ingredient cyclopentasiloxane in eye primers, concealers, pencil liners, eye cream, etc. Not necessarily an allergy, but I believe it holds oil/bacteria in the skin ( I’m an esthetician ). Hope this helps someone looking for answers. Cosmetics can be tricky!
OMG - thank you SO much for leaving this comment Patricia!! Yes, been hunting for answers, I'd been cross-referencing all my make up items that do or don't flare up my eyes, asking make-up companies for ingredient lists, to try to isolate what ingredient it could be. I first got blepharitis a year ago, after wearing false lashes a couple of times for a performance. The pain in my eyes was so scary days after, I went to the eye doctor, then got diagnosed. Needless to say, no more false lashes! But I do use primers and liners close to the waterline, as I have hooded lids, and some are fine, others unbearable within an hour. Have wasted a lot of $ because you only find out after buying. Thank you again! :)
I wore some mascara a few weeks ago . No eyeliner. The next day, my eye got one itch out of this world, and I could help but rub after that rub it was on! For a few days now, red and itchy and now runny nose. Prior to this, it was the eye liner. Bear in mind prior to the eyiner. I never had these problems for years. I've been using eyeliner n mascara all if a sudden I'm having what my doctor assistant called allergies. I'll see the doctor soon as the appt becomes available in the main time. I'm using otc drop, but the itch just gets crazy sometimes. I'm trying my hardest to avoid rubbing. I believe rubbing the eye trigger of more itchyness.
Very true! I was diagnosed at the start of this year (along with periocular dermatitis and rosacea), and have seen about a 70% reduction of blepharitis symptoms after doing the following: 1. I threw out all of my makeup, which was ANCIENT anyway & I stopped using makeup for a year (and that severely depressed me, but there was just no point, and i needed to give my face/eyes space to heal) 2.I changed my diet, to not include gluten & dairy, going onto a more meat based diet, with low acidic foods (this alone cleared up my rosacea) 3. every night using an eye heat mask for 10 minutes 4. morning and night wiping eyes with a cleanser specifically for the eye to get rid of makeup/debris (even though i was not using makeup) and using a cotton bud soaked in it to "brush across" the lash lines 5. using a more expensive eyedrop from the opticians instead of the optrex ones on the supermarket shelves for dry eyes. 6. taking omega 3/cod liver fish oil (in liquid form, which apparently has better "bioavailability" than capsules) 7. swimming and more cardio (not sure if relevant, but figured it would help my body with overall circulation, because i had a lot of inflammation in other parts of my body including knees, which are a bit better now.) After this video i'm thinking of adding a more demodex mite-targeted cleanser too. I am now slowly, trying to reincorporate makeup again, but this time i'm going about makeup hygiene like a makeup artist would. making sure between every use to "sanitise" products with a specialised spray they use to cleanse between clients, and not "double dipping" my mascara wand, but instead using disposable wands and things like that! I just watched Dr Rupa's video on tightlining with eyeliner, so will avoid that to start too. it's been a LOT of work, but am happy to finally start stepping back into the make up world again. fingers crossed!
That's fantastic to hear! It's great that you've found a routine that works for you. Blepharitis can be frustrating, so it's wonderful that your symptoms have improved so much.
Such an informative video, thank you! Blepharitis can be so miserable. During a flare up I find that the pain and pressure inside my eyes can be very tiring all over, mentally, and also like a mild flu. I wish my eye doctor had given me even a tenth of the explanation you give here. I don't have skin conditions but I'm a prime candidate. Diagnosed a year ago. First my eyes started rejecting contact lenses about 50% of the time, after years of no issues, which is pretty devastating! Then I tried false lashes for a couple of special events, my eyes went nuts a couple of days later and due to the pain I saw an eye doctor about it. I'm in my 40s, in a senior corporate job involving intense work at a computer screen (and likely forgetting to blink when hyperfocused), plus insomnia, not a great water drinker (not helped by ADHD - both the forgetfulness re drinking plus the medication). I'm definitely going to try your advice. Thank you.
@@DrRupaWong hi I have scalp dandruff that is shedding into my left eye causing irritation, itching, swelling of the upper lid and eye discharge gets stuck under the upper eye lid.
Had this for 25 years but thank goodness now its great, I couldn't wear mascara for years! I can now, shampoo on eyelids I was advised to do didn't work for me. I was 34 when my eyes started with this.
@@elenistamatiou Nothing worked I had to put up with red sore, itchy eyes for years, but when I got in my 50s it seemed to settle down, I had Roseaca as well and that seemed to get a lot better.
I was just hospitalized for blepharitis. I had IV vancomycin and then had oral and ophthalmic steroids and antibiotics. My eyes were so swollen and dry that I also abraded my cornea. It took about 2 weeks to heal completely.
This is a high-quality video on blepharitis. When I type "blepharitis" into the TH-cam search bar, this is the first video that pops up. You go over the major causes of blepharitis, and then you describe the treatments for it. You link us all sorts of useful stuff too. Thanks a lot. Sept 2021 I suffered from a bad flare-up caused by blepharitis. I had trouble seeing out of my right eye because the eyelids swelled up so much. I take this condition much more seriously now. It was quite painful and embarrassing last year, and now I'm managing it much better. Thank you. Truly, it would be great if hospitals and other care clinics linked your video to "blepharitis outpatient resources" since you do such a great job explaining the topic. ----- I forgot that editing a comment makes the channel creator's heart disappear. I fixed some grammar issues. Also, your video is currently (March 2023) in fourth place when we search for "blepharitis" on TH-cam. Thanks for liking my comment, Dr. Rupa Wong.
@Jey I did get my eyes checked in person by my GP and then an eye doctor. I agree with you that everyone ought to see a GP and a specialist when things like this happen. I'm saying that videos like hers are a great tool for outpatient care & education on blepharitis and other topics.
My son got these flare ups and the one thing that I did to help clear it up was increase his dose of cod liver oil supplements and put "no tears" baby shampoo around his eyes daily till it went away. I would apply it on a wipe and massage it on his lash line throughout the day and slather it on his eyes during bath time. I'd use eucalyptus Epsom salt and baking soda in the bath water too.
I currently have blepharitis due an autoimmune disease. I find it so annoying but at least it reminds me to wash my face and brush my teeth in the morning lol.
I was driving one day and my eyes started watering like I was crying. My eyes were so dry the papers the doc put on my eyes felt like razor blades. The pain was horrible as it felt like my lashes sealed shut and the eyelids swelled. I wore sunglasses and couldn't wear makeup. FF thirty years and it resurfaced, not as severe but required a surgery for the tears to drain. I no longer wear makeup and I have eye drops in every room. I bought a glass eye cup to use in the middle of the night. Thank you, Doctor!
Thank you Sandy! Your comment truly made my day. Sometimes it can be tough putting out content, not knowing if it's helpful, so thank you for taking the time!
Thank you for making a video on this! I know I had requested it awhile back on a different video of yours and I appreciate it so much! I am definitely going to check out some of the recommendations you gave. Fingers crossed🤞🏻
Watch out with shampoo and with what you wash. Some things can cause reaction in the eyes. I found cutting carbs and all sugars made a huge cure. And sitting 12 hours at computer plus cold and windy environment can make eyes worse. So avoid these and try to look at distant objects to loose eye muscles frequently. Make a habbit to not to touch eyes all the time with dirty fingers, and wash face with just water often, clean the dust in your room. Worth to start with little things :)
GREAT video. I have not heard of this before. However, I suffer every day with eye issue's and it's driving me crazy. I wish you lived in my town for you to be my eye doctor. ♡
Thank you Doctor. This is most helpful. I run baby shampoo along the lash lines on a q-tip and I also use wipes called blephaclean (I'm in Switzerland). I keep it more or less at bay with this treatment but it's a really tiresome condition.
I think you just told me what has been wrong with my eyes for a few years now. I love to read but I haven’t been able to read more than a page at a time when I used to go through four books a week. My eyes are dry and then one eye will turn into a fountain. Yesterday it really felt like someone had turned a tiny tap on when I wanted to go to sleep. In the morning I felt like I needed to use my hands to open that eye. It is a weird feeling. My eyelashes get itchy and I have even given up trying another mascara or eye liner. I just stopped using any makeup. I have seen several eye Doctors who tell my eyes are good. Two weeks ago I saw my GP because the other eye was gunky in the morning and itchy. He told me the glands inside my lower lid were blocked. He gave me some drops and he showed me how to gently massage them with a warm cloth and which direction to do it. I never knew eyes could be so annoying. Then I think of our adopted beauty who has very progressive Myopia. She was legally blind at 8 years old and I have nothing to complain about. Her teacher sent me a note when she was 5 saying. Take her to see this eye Specialist, he is also a child psychologist and he will tell you she is just stupid and it isn’t her eyes. I was so angry I went to see him. He was amazing and he asked me to trust him to keep as much sight as he could until she was older. He asked her to trust him too and he told her the glasses he was going to give would hurt her eyes and make things look weird but if she trusted him in a few days they would be great. He told me they would continually pull her eyes near and far and she should start going bowling and play basketball. Both good near and far sports and golf would be better but if she ever managed to hit the ball she would never find it again. I showed him the teachers note and he got angry. He wrote one back that he would be contacting her Principal for continually putting my baby in the back row when I had told her she can only see from the front. Before this man she needed new lenses every two to four weeks. He said it is her eyes and the teacher was the only stupid thing in her classroom. The teacher would not have her on the basketball team because she was from Korea. This was a Christian school where I thought she would be safe. The Coach a year above her took her every year until High School. When he fitted her glasses I noticed going back to the car she was walking like she was climbing stairs and quietly crying. We were driving home and I heard her say Mama? Then she told me there were signs on every street corner, they all had different names. Then, Mama I think I know what a leaf is. I didn’t know until then just how much she had missed. During Covid my State locked it’s borders for two years. We didn’t have Covid. My baby was 33 and she went blind 4 times. Her retina kept detaching and I couldn’t get to her but her big sister took over. Her eye Doctor promised when she was ready for surgery and it wouldn’t be laser surgery because her eye was flat. So she was too high of a risk. Her Surgeon that he had ready for her was the head of the State Board. After you graduated you had to work under him and only he could say if you were good enough for Surgery. I asked him how he managed that? He told me he went to University with his brother. On her last surgery that surgeon cried and apologized for giving her a new lense because she was too young. After they removed her cataract. She has been told her other eye will do the same thing at any time but they are all there when she needs them and there was no charge for any of it. I asked her specialist why he hadn’t retired yet. He told me he almost has but he promised our girl that he was there until she was okay. He hasn’t taken a new patient for 5 years. He can’t go until she learns to use her eyes together. He used to be my eye Doctor until we moved away. He would have known what was wrong with my eyes now. I think I just wrote a book, sorry.
No need to apologize! I am glad to read. I'm sorry you had a difficult experience. I hope you can find a doctor local to you that can help you soon. Thank you for being here and sharing!
Have any of your patients had celiac disease? I had severe chronic blepharitis as a child. A Dr finally treated it with an antibiotic ointment and vitamin A. My celiac disease was diagnosed as a young adult. I had severe vitamin A and D deficiencies and needed prescription medications for it. My eyes still do flare up from time to time but nothing like I had as a child.
My eye doctor told me that I had blepharitis years ago and he basically explained to me that that's when your oil glands get clogged. And your eyes get super dried out. I had to take an antibiotic at a very low dose for a long time and I don't even think it helped me. There's also something else that you can do for your eyes to help to unclog the oil glands and I think that helped a lot more. You can basically take an old sock and fill it with some rice to where it can still be flattened out a bit. Warm that up in the microwave or the oven until it's warm to the touch. Put that on to each closed eye for 5 min. That will help the oil to be released from the glands surrounding your eyes and it will help your eyes to feel better. Blepharitis usually comes with dry eyes. You can do the warm compress in the morning and at night. It also helps with eye pain that you will get if you don't get enough sleep. I noticed that sometimes it hurts to open my eyes in the mornings so using the warm compress helps to take away that pain. And it's very soothing. You can also use a wet compress but I feel like that tends to dry out the skin around the eyes.
I'm going through some of the dry eye issues now and scarring as a result of negligence by doctors who did not do anything about it on visits which I attend twice a year for. I was on steroid cream which did nothing and non preservative eye drops such as natural tears for months. No doctor here in Ontario Canada has a solution but to use artificial tears. Thealoz Duo or Hylo). It helps but continues to come and go. I also use a Bruder eye mask you can warm up for 20 seconds in micro heat which helps relieve eye pain and reduces swelling and actually feels good on the eyes. Use it twice a day but you can use more often if needed. Dr Rupa has provided excellent information here and I will look into trying some of her suggestions. It can all add up pretty quickly as this is a long term issue if you want to maintain healthy eyes and avoid complications. All the best with getting your eyes healthy again!
@@onerose3614 natural tears do not do anything for your eyes. You need eye drops made for dry eyes. I use Systane gel drops for severe dry eyes. In the beginning when i was first diagnosed I had to use the drops every 2 hours. And I had to use an eye ointment at night. Overtime it changed to twice a day. And then as needed. I no longer need the eye ointment. The last time I was at the eye doctor which was right after I got diagnosed with celiac disease which was in 2012 I was told that the blepharitis had resolved. Lately I had to go to the ER at wills eye hospital because of flashing lights at the corner of one of my eyes and severe eye floaters. Fortunately for me nothing severe happened to my retina. I am due to go back for a checkup this month.
Wish I knew about these treatments when I had this in the 60s. I had it all through school, til high school. My eyelids were continuously red rimmed, scaly and itchy. I had gaps where my eyelashes fell out. I've no idea why it stopped in my teens. The only treatment I had was Golden Eye ointment. I always put the cause down to not liking what I saw, as a kid.
The first time I had to deal with this was 8 years ago and now it reoccurred again and i live in a different country but still have my old supplies and remedies to handle and foam with tea tree and eucalyptus is one of them together with systane balance eye drops . thank you for great video
God bless you for your amazing channel 🙏❤ I stayed at a Airbnb and came home with what I thought was a sunburn on my eyes 🤔 but then the swelling, itching, red eyes🤯 I use cortisone which keeps the flare ups from happening 🙏 I will try the wipes 🙏 thank you🙏❤
I have Rosacea, dagnamit! A new lesson for those of us stye vs chalazion warriors. Amazon has a great stye eye patch. You warm it up in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds. Another trick that I've used and I'll share. Is a chemical toe warmer, peel it back, get it warmed and then (because it has a sticky side) I double it over and then I place it under the patch and that gives me a warm compress for a long period of time.
Your video has been very helpful Thank you so much I realised during the discussion that I have had an itchy scalp over the last month and my bleth appears to have started shortly after so perhaps I scratched my eyes after itching my scalp!Thank you❤
I have had itchy eyelids for a few years, and just assumed it was allergy eyes. But it’s my eye LIDS, and the sides of my nose in that area. It gets severely itchy, almost like a poison ivy itch. This video is the first I’ve looked into possible causes, and I thank you. I guess I can start trying different over-the-counter remedies and see if I can narrow down what my issue might be. I am a 64-year-old woman and I wear contacts. If you see this comment and have any suggestions of where to begin, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! 👀
@Peach Girl I got mine in Ohio but you can get it anywhere. Just contact a local eye doctor. It is very easy, no pain and it's great not needing contacts or glasses.
Great information! Thank you! I have had idiopathic anterior uveitis for 6 years and have been noticing some of these systems lately. I'm going to try some of your tips and bring up with my Dr and discuss Blepharitis with her. Whether or not I have this condition in conjunction I think this will help with my issue.
Superb 'again' Dr. Rupa. Sadly in Canada Health Canada etc will not approve a lot of things mentioned. Blepharitis plus MGD PLUS . . . chronic conjunctival injection is the hand dealt this way. Constant on going 'dealing' with such.
My son was diagnosed with this and had a spot of scar tissue on the outer layer of the eye due to it. After doing some reading about it and noting an increased incidence in people with rosacea, eczema, and dermatitis I was able to help my dad (he has rosacea) get some eye relief. He always struggled with itchy, burning eyes.
@GamingZone-vr8us look into optimel manuka honey gel forte. Studies have shown it is effective at controlling dry eye and inflammation from blepharitis. Buy the gel version, apply it to the eyelid margins. Should see a significant improvement after 3 weeks
Blepharitis and dry eyes are the worst. Been suffering daily for over a year now. Tried several kinds of drops, warm compresses, occusoft lid wipes, and prescriiption ointment for the irritated skin on the outside corners of my eyes and nothing seems to help. So frustrated. Cant imagine living like this for the rest of my life as im only 59.
I wake up with a rash under my eyes. It’s awful. I do everything right - clean twice a day with a tea tree oil gel, Heyedrate spray along lashes. But it doesn’t matter, still get this rash 😔 It’s like I’m allergic to what’s seeping from my eyes
My daughter had a lot of styes in both eyes as a toddler. Around 10yrs old, she stopped getting styes and started having a raging red eye most of the time. It's only the right eye. Left eye is completely fine. After several Dr appts, we finally got a referral to a pediatric Opthomologist at Kapiolani. He gave us prednisone, but warned us to only use it once or it will cause glaucoma. Then he said the only thing we can do in warm cloth compresses. It sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. Once in a while her eye will look normal for a week or 10 days. Most of the time is inflamed. She's 12 now and gets teased at school for her eye. Can you help us???
@luanamitchell6211 We just got in to see Dr Rupa!! She was booked until August, but there was a cancelation and we got in right away! We are so grateful 🙏
I understand what your daughter is going through. I was teased mercilessly about my blepharitis as a child. What was worse was my eyelids were bloody and painful. I had almost no eyelashes from it. Warm compresses only managed to pry my eyelids apart in the morning. It didn't really help the problem 😕
@TheGalwayfan I'm so sorry you went through that! That is terrible. Did the blepharitis eventually clear up? I am happy to report that we have had success with Dr Rupa's diagnosis and treatment. Turns out there was some staphylococcus involved.
I had to stop wearing makeup back in the 90’s because of this issue as well as allergies to makeup some days are bad where I wake up with my eyes sealed closed once I get that cleared up I’m fine a for a long time it all started when I was 8 years old woke up one morning with the worst case of cursing on the eyes, it took Mom 3 days to clear the crusting off my eyes. I have to have a cleaning routing since then, I’m 60 now and only gets bad when I’m sick and not able to do my normal routing. I have noticed when my asthma gets bad so do my eyes. When my asthma is playing up I get thick sticky wet eyes which then makes my eyesight blurry I use the dry eyes spray as this helps to water it down and makes it easy to clean my eyes off the gunk.
Hi Miriam. I'm a sufferer of Bletharitis and skin conditions. Neutrogena T Gel shampoo will cure your itching scalp, eye brows and lashes. You can get it at the chemist. It's specially for , dermatitis, psoriasis, flaky scalp, itching scalp, seborrheic dermatitis. I stumbled upon the fact that it not only fixed my scalp, but I noticed my itchy face stopped. I started using a tiny bit on my eyes for my bad Bletharitis and it has fixed that after around 4 days. You might want to use a little amount to wash your face and wash your hair with it. It's brilliant. No more itching scalp, no crusty sore eyes. Good luck, you could use any coal tar shampoo. Louise Australia
As a child, I had many attacks of Blepharitis … I would wake up with ‘goop’ sealing my eyes shut and would have to bath my eyes with hot water…and some kind of white powder in it! I have lost eyelashes…will they come back someday? It seemed to happen mostly in the fall…would that be an allergy! I have since been diagnosed with ‘dry eyes’ and had cataract surgery…I am now 65 and have very sensitive eyes…is there anything that can help them?
Very informative and helpful. I have had blepharitis a few times and my ophthalmologist told me it could lead to blindness. Needless to say, I scrub the lids religiously now. Im currently on eye steroid drop for rosacea in eyes. I didn’t know you could get rosacea in the eyes? I’ve been trying to get my insurance company to pay for cequa rx for dry eyes, which doesn’t burn like restasis and is 4 x more effective and doesn’t taste like metal. Why are these Rx not covered by insurance ugh! I’ve tried lipiflow IMO results not worth the $$$ trying IPL next - getting old sucks
I had blethritis my tea4s actually burn3d my skin. My doctor told me I had dry eyes and not to come-back. I went to a different doctor and he gave me medication. It is a fungal infection. I finally got rid of it with h2o2 and sulphadiazine.
Hello Doc, thank you for this video. My eyelid is swollen, I visited my doctor a procedure was done on my lid but then it Is still swollen. Should I be worried 😟

I think I may have this. My eyes are in pain, they have a drainage that seals my eyes closed at night when I'm asleep, they are really dry and gritting feeling, and I have had blurred vision at times. Today my left eye had double halos with many colors. I'm also 60 years old, so perhaps this might add to the situation. I tried to get in to see my primary doctor today but she's booked out.
3 years ago an ophthalmologist told me that I have excess oil under my eyes. She told me to put a warm compress on them and then gently massage under my eyes and push the oil out. I tried this but it was too tender and painful for me to do. After my second or third visit with the ophthalmologist I didn't go back to see her because my appointments were 1-1/2 hours or longer, most of the time waiting in the waiting room and exam room and she wasn't helping me with my eye problem. To be safe I'm going to see a doctor at Kaiser within the next couple of days at urgent care because right now my eyes really hurting, dry, gritty, etc. just to make sure things are okay and there isn't something else going on.
I've had to switched to Baby shampoo to wash my hair and face , and take antibiotics topical , oral and oral and , something for pain , cold wash cloth . My Dr has me on a cocktail of OTS and prescription meds when I have a flare up
@@DrRupaWong it helps , especially the steroids with percription medication , ti will get me better within 24 hrs of a falre up. But I have to be mindful when feeling the lest bit of of discoumprot and start measures then , you are going to laught, but I have found a baby diaper rash jell that gives instant relief to the iching and burning .
I have had a really bad experience with it. I went to a nurse practitioner who prescribed to me the antibiotic Cephalexin, in which I got a mini stroke from it and went into the hospital. I had a very allergic reaction to it, and he did not want me to stop taking it, and wouldn't see me again. The pharmacist told me to stop immediately, but it was too late. I am now on an ointment called erythromycim ophthalmic from a different clinic, now for 3 days, but my upper eyelids still feel itchy. A little red too. I bought that heated mask and spray from amazon made for this too. The spray is a cleanser I put on cotton balls. I tried olive oil, coconut oil before, but this is really frustrating trying to get over this, plus the mini stroke I had from a bad drug I was prescribed, which he neglected to tell me those side effects I found out too late. Some places I read not to use the heated mask, it will make the problem worse, and it says to use ice packs. Says inflammation loves heat. This gets confusing! Thankyou for your videos.
Not sure but I do know that if you have internal inflammation , you are more prone to this . I’ve dealt with this for so long and the only thing I can think of is - I have hyper mobility and when the internal swelling gets bad - I get a swollen lids and mild redness in the eye . Hot compress works great but don’t use heat for too long as the heat can make your eyes feel funky . And yes … get some drops that help with dryness , this will help . ( this is just how I deal with it ) but … going back next Friday to have a check up cause this time it’s not “ going away “
@@-living4jesus4ever- hyper mobility as of right now - just had a brain scan done , trying to figure out if this is EDS - my father had the vascular kind so I’m just hoping I get answers soon .

I have facial eczema around the forehead, it runs along my eyelids and blocks my eyelid ducts, not mentioned on here, I have over the yrs had about 12 operations to remove cysts under the lids, the only thing that stopped it was vigorous scraping and cleaning to remove the skin flakes but left my eyes sore even to this day in my 50's no treatment prior has ever made a difference.
@@DrRupaWong Thankyou for the response, I have learnt to manage the condition and not had a op for 15yrs now, baby shampoo and a coarse cloth seems to be the winning ticket but tends to work better if having a hot bath too, this seems to also remove any trapped solidified material, it can look like I had a very rough night sometimes with red lids but they tend to calm down after a few hours post scrubbing. The worst cysts were the large ones, the injection to numb them couldn't get around them so had to get sliced while in full feeling, after the blood flowed though the injections did there job, very cringeworthy for most to have lid clamps and see and feel the scalpel but I got used to it.
My eye lashes fell out 9 months ago (left only) and haven't grown back. My eye lid is puffy often and sensitive. 3 dermatologist said they didn't know what it could be or the cause and didn't run any tests or exams but 2 prescribed me tacrolomus ointment. I saw an eye doctor and he actually tried to help and gave me eye lid wipes, a spray and an eye mask that i heat up but not moisten. He said the oil glands in my eyes don't produce oil anymore and that's why i have dry eyes. I tried castor oil after all those didn't help but it didn't work. I tried eye lash serum but it failed too. It looks worse when I smoke weed, of coarse and I thought maybe that caused it. Bc I do clean my face but maybe not my eyes as thorough. I was never told about the warm compress and tea tree oil or anything else. I'll start that now and buy the wipes bc I'm desperate at this point. I miss having my long eye lashes and having normal eye lids. I'll update after a month or so. 🤞
This video was great. I suffer from blepharitis. And I use to always think oh it’s just allergies. But I have been using baby shampoo on my eyes too and it works for me.
Thank you, Sarah! I am sorry you suffer from Blepharitis but glad that you found something to help.
@@Maxeys_mommyI suspect baby shampoo is recommended because its designed to be safe & painless if it gets in the eyes.

Thank you!

I'm so glad you found something that helps! Thanks for sharing.
Vicks around the eyes is very refreshing but be careful not to get it in your eyeball 🔥😬👍
The Vicks doesn't end up absorbing into the eyelid on to the eye?

I have that right now and I feel so awful and I won't go out anymore I look awful with it I'm glad I could put a name to what I have
Thank you!!! Keep the facts coming Doctor, I’ll be “keeping an eye out” for new videos… Every pun intended. lol 😂

Thanks for mentioning Cetaphil. I'm Australian and I can buy this at the chemist actually.
Thank you for suggesting this! Baby shampoo aged me by about a decade. Hopefully this is gentler on sensitive skin!

Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Thanks for sharing, Patricia! 😄
Thank you for mentioning this. Every time I wear eye liner my eyes go crazy! I thought I'd never be able to wear liner again.
@@LostinstarsssMe too
Very true! I was diagnosed at the start of this year (along with periocular dermatitis and rosacea), and have seen about a 70% reduction of blepharitis symptoms after doing the following:
1. I threw out all of my makeup, which was ANCIENT anyway & I stopped using makeup for a year (and that severely depressed me, but there was just no point, and i needed to give my face/eyes space to heal)
2.I changed my diet, to not include gluten & dairy, going onto a more meat based diet, with low acidic foods (this alone cleared up my rosacea)
3. every night using an eye heat mask for 10 minutes
4. morning and night wiping eyes with a cleanser specifically for the eye to get rid of makeup/debris (even though i was not using makeup) and using a cotton bud soaked in it to "brush across" the lash lines
5. using a more expensive eyedrop from the opticians instead of the optrex ones on the supermarket shelves for dry eyes.
6. taking omega 3/cod liver fish oil (in liquid form, which apparently has better "bioavailability" than capsules)
7. swimming and more cardio (not sure if relevant, but figured it would help my body with overall circulation, because i had a lot of inflammation in other parts of my body including knees, which are a bit better now.)
After this video i'm thinking of adding a more demodex mite-targeted cleanser too.

Thank you.

My celiac disease was diagnosed as a young adult. I had severe vitamin A and D deficiencies and needed prescription medications for it.
Thank you for sharing these techniques! I appreciate you being here!
@@marciwhitman3513 I think Systane is the best drop available as well. I have not used the gel drops though. Thankyou Marci, will get them tomorrow.

Best video on this by far, thank you! My lashes keep falling out and it's scaring me lol
I am glad this video helped you! Thank you for watching.
I'm so sorry you struggled with this. What a wonderful thing that we have come so far!
The first time I had to deal with this was 8 years ago and now it reoccurred again and i live in a different country but still have my old supplies and remedies to handle and foam with tea tree and eucalyptus is one of them together with systane balance eye drops . thank you for great video
So sorry! Glad to help. Thank you for watching!
This was educational. I appreciate it. I know I need to take pretty care of my eye lids
I'm so glad this was helpful! Yes, it is so important to take care of the eyelids.

Thank you for all the information, I find GPS as good as they are sometimes don't give us enough information.
You bet!
Thanks for sharing what works for you, Gordo!
Thank you! 👀
I had blepharitis until receiving lasik surgery and it seemed to go away permanently. That was 20 years ago.
I'm so glad it went away!
@Peach Girl My eye doctor told me I had it but the surgeon was a different doctor.
Rupa.
Sadly in Canada Health Canada etc will not
approve a lot of things mentioned. Blepharitis
plus MGD PLUS . . . chronic conjunctival injection
is the hand dealt this way. Constant on going
'dealing' with such.
That's terrible and it can be debilitating. I think most of those treatments I mentioned are also not covered by medical insurances here.
I have that rn bro help

I use tea bags one for each eye, in side a cloth, they fit perfectly and are warm and soothing too
Thanks for sharing what works for you, Jen. I appreciate you!
Do you recommend baby shampoo? Alot of opthamlogists are saying it is bad. But it worked well for me for the past 2 yrs
Great question! I will add this to my video suggestions list. Thank you!

Demodex/ Mites also can be the cause yes….. mites in your eyelashes they can be in your eyebrows too
Ugh, mites are the worst! 🤢
Have you tried to get in to see Dr Wong?
@luanamitchell6211 We just got in to see Dr Rupa!! She was booked until August, but there was a cancelation and we got in right away! We are so grateful 🙏
Thank you for coming to see us, Rachel!
So sorry, Dawsie! That sounds so hard. Thank you for sharing that with us and for watching!
Excellent video. Thank you
Happy to share. Thank you for being here!
I am going to the dermatologist for itchy scalp, eyebrows, eyes and my ears too! Quite frustrating!
Best wishes!! Hope they can give you the treatment you need. 🧡
@@louise7552 WOW I will try it, thanks!
@@miracas1206 good luck, please feel free to let me know how it goes. Just use tiny amounts on eyes and face. Cheers Louise Australia
As a child, I had many attacks of Blepharitis … I would wake up with ‘goop’ sealing my eyes shut and would have to bath my eyes with hot water…and some kind of white powder in it! I have lost eyelashes…will they come back someday? It seemed to happen mostly in the fall…would that be an
allergy! I have since been diagnosed with ‘dry eyes’ and had cataract surgery…I am now 65 and have
very sensitive eyes…is there anything that can help them?

I tried the occusoft lid wipes and got a HORRIBLE reaction. My eyes really swelled up, couldn't see etc!
Thank you!!!! One of the most informative and useful broadcasts' I've seen on this subject. 💯🌹
I'm so sorry you had that experience! Ugh! That sounds like it was difficult.

My Dr has me on a cocktail of OTS and prescription meds when I have a flare up
Has that helped? Thank you for watching! :)
It can be really hard to find the perfect treatment. Everyone is really different. I hope you find something soon that helps. Thank you for watching!
Stay away from big pharma drugs and seek out natural cures.
I have this . Blurry vision also. Am 61 and feel its affecting my everyday life
Also Sjogren’s Syndrome causes it from dry eye.
Thanks for bringing that up, Bonnie!
Has anyone found that this is linked with Lyme disease?
Not sure but I do know that if you have internal inflammation , you are more prone to this .
I’ve dealt with this for so long and the only thing I can think of is - I have hyper mobility and when the internal swelling gets bad - I get a swollen lids and mild redness in the eye .
Hot compress works great but don’t use heat for too long as the heat can make your eyes feel funky .
And yes … get some drops that help with dryness , this will help .
( this is just how I deal with it ) but … going back next Friday to have a check up cause this time it’s not “ going away “

I'm so sorry. That sounds so hard to deal with. I will look into making a video about this. Thank you for being here!
I'm right here with you, and I have 20/60 vision, when it comes on I'm in bed for weeks
