I'm a pilot with an ATP license with around 5000 hrs...haven't flown in many years but I know a little about this. No a 12 yr old would never in a million years be able to land a heavy...let alone they said he "trusted his instruments" lol...Kid doesn't have a clue what the instruments do...lol...then to top it off, they said he hit the thrust reversers LOLOL... I sometimes wonder why anyone would write such drivel then I noticed how many people fall for this stuff...sad, and funny. Mostly sad.

I remember a similar story many decades ago by Arthur Hailey, only that the person who intervened after the two pilots collapsed after taking a meal of fish was a former RAF retired soldier who used to fly war planes in the 2nd World War.
Some pilots now say it is their practice to eat a different type of meal that the other pilot does to avoid food poisoning.

Both pilots had elected to eat Salmon for their dinner, and had been incapacitated by salmonella poisoning. The hero was a WW2 fighter pilot veteran who took the controls. The touchdown was late, and he had to ground-loop to bring the 707 to a halt, but not before uprooting the runway lights.

The controller could hardly instruct the boy how to fly a commercial plane. Only very few of them would know anything about flying. The guide would have to be a real pilot, and even in that case, it would be highly unlikely for an absolute amateur to land the plane successfully.

There is no way an inexperienced twelve year old would have been permitted to land a passenger airliner at a major airport. The risk to the airport and the close by city would have been too great. The plane would have been diverted to a smaller, rural airport or landed in the ocean.
Not without a pilot, they couldn’t be diverted anywhere…

He would have been instructed to take the plane to either an available rural airport or land the plane in the ocean away from Honalulu, eliminating the possibility of any liability on the island of Oahu, a very urban, densely populated area. In fact, if he had been permitted to land the plane in Honalulu, as described in the video, there would have been an uproar over all of the lives put at risk by the irresponsible airline and air traffic controllers. I am a Licensed Pilot. This is pure fantacy. First a controller would not know how to advise a would be pilot. Second a controller would find a qualified pilot on the specific aircraft to guide anyone attempting to fly a plane. An emergency would be declared and a frequency set aside for communicating with the cockpit. Third there are dozens of individual procedures for controlling, approaching and landing an airplane. Just the radio procedure would be tough for a kid. Forth the description of the flight attendants behavior is outside of the training she would have.
My ears were glued to the voice describing the story, I did not care if the story was real or not, the story teller voice and how he was describing the experience mesmerized my curiosity to hear the entire story and I was looking at the kid photo and visualizing him on the cockpit because once in my life in the Old peaceful days, I was flying to Europe and the Pilots allowed me to sit in the cockpit and it was great experience watching 3 Pilots at work 2 on front and one on the back and they provided me bit of information of how the plane really flies and with this experience my mind was with the Kid Pilot and again if it was real, I hope the Airline Company and the Insurance company will pay for his education. Great Job Young Man and helping and defending people is great feelings and I am speaking from experience defending people I did not know.

little secret--pilots dont fly the planes, the computers do. pilots are there to monitor the systems and for emergencies. the planes are perfectly capable of flying themselves and landing by ground control. the pilots are there mainly because passengers wouldn't fly on the aircraft if they weren't

This is total fantasy! Your an hour out from your origin airport towards Hawaii. You wouldn't be talking to a Honolulu controller. There is no way they would have had him disengage the auto pilot just make adjustments to it. The plane could also land on autopilot on arrival at the closest airport which wouldn't be Honolulu.
So this was a fabricated story created by AI! Even thought they say it has to be attributed for what it is, It is well disguised here. Put a box on the screen and tell everyone what it is throughout the performance. Better yet, don't do it at all.
Well, its an interesting story but I don't think its true. I think it is possible for a 12 year old experienced with simulators to land a plane but there are too many things here that don't ring true. If this was true it would be big big news worldwide but I couldn't find any info on it.

If a plane is just falling out of the sky, is the autopilot able to be activated itself and turn the plane back up?
If he are at 22kfeet and want gain altitude, why do it manually? Its easier to do it with the autopilot instead.

Definitely a "fake story". The dead giveaway is the flight attendant asking a child if they can fly a Boeing. It still was a fun listen though, even though it's purely fictional. Would've been better i the channel advertised it as such, and not implying it's a true story.
I agree, it is hard to believe, not so much that a kid of that age could land an aircraft such as the Boeing 737/800 since landing can be automated, using the auto pilot. I also say this because as a retired pilot I flew this plane and believe me an easy bird to fly. I’ve have a couple more reasons I can believe this story. The first reason is that one of pilots I knew taught his daughter how to fly the 737 on MS Flight Sim 2020, while he told us about this, he said be here Saturday morning and I’ll prove it. He came Saturday & set up one of the sims for to try the landing. He set the 737/800 Simulator for a 0/0 landing approach to McMurdo Station, Antarctica which folks in the Air Force fly into all the time. She sat at the controls, he told where she going to land & put the sim 50 miles from the airport. Man she was very professional, she brought up her approach plate for the airport to gather her necessary info for the airport, she contacted approach, she checked in with the airport to get permission to land, and she landed all by herself. When asked if she minded her dad putting her up in front of us like that, she replied, nope cause I’m gonna fly for the Air Force as soon as I can. Oh and by the way it was 10 of us that put up $20 bucks each and dad gave here all $200 bucks. Also she is 14 & will be attending High School this coming Monday. As for the $200 bucks she said her and her gotta buy more parts for Flight setup.
