I did the elimination phase a few years ago and here's what I'll add: 1. If you are *very* intolerant to something you may still have a reaction to the low fodmap serving size. This happened to me with lactose - can't tolerate cheese or even "lactose free" products which actually still have lactose plus lactase. But the reintroduction phase helped me figure out those triggers. 2. When planning a meal it's not just about keeping the serving size of each item low fodmap. You also have to think about the meal as a whole. If you pick 3 things they all have a low dose of fructan and eat them all at once then you'll likely have a reaction. This can cause confusion and make it harder to figure out what you can tolerate.
You could be triggered by milk protein, not lactose. I'm very lactose intolerant. I can't have a spoon of joghurt. However, if I eat lactose free products or take an enzyme, I'm fine.
This is glorious, been searching for "natural treatment ibs" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Mackorny Defeat IBS Blueprint - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it
Thanks Becky. I started low FODMAP last year. I think you provided better information here in your video than I received from my dietitian and GI doctor. Looking forward to your book. For those of you who are just starting your low FODMAP diet - it does get easier and you do find things that you love.
In any kind of disaster situation especially in war, you are the kind of person I would want to have around. Practical and upbeat at the same time. You successfully combine being upbeat with being realistic, which is not easy. I am sure there are many of us who find comfort and good advice in your videos.
Pretty sure im about to get an ibs diagnosis and have been mourning the loss of my (ironically new found) love of food. Having had a negative relationship with food and severe body image issues for most of my life, i only started enjoying and expanding my food repertoire in the last couple of years, so you can imagine the additional devastation im feeling as ive been slowly realising what ibs means for my day-to-day. I dont even eat chicken, im a vegetarian, but to see youve been able to create something as flavourful and satisfying as a kfc fakeaway actually made me cry with relief. Thank you for showing me food doesnt have to always make me miserable. Will be buying your cookbook asap! P.s i really like your glasses
Thanx for always sharing your wonderful videos. I am still on low FOMAP. However, i still can't have certain foods on its list. I am still having ongoing challenges, as i am also GF & DF. Trial and error kind of thing. I finally figured out that stacking is a big no, no! I really need to buy your cookbook and become more strict with my diet. Please keep posting your helpful tips!
Thanks for the video! I’ve been low fodmap for a year in maintenance stage, but just started elimination phase a second time because I think I’ve gotten new intolerances 😖 Great ideas as I’m doing this again!
I'm wondering how easy/hard a vegetarian low FODMAP elimination phase is. I know that there are some beans/pulses/peas that are allowed in small amounts, but I still react. My main protein is egg, along with nutbutters, some nuts (in small quantities,) seeds and occasionally white fish.
I've been doing it for 4 weeks and I'm out of ideas. I hate vegetables. Zucchini, eggplant, squash, spinach make me gag. I threw up squash on the table as a kid. All I've been eating is carrots and green beans. I don't eat much meat, and then can only eat chicken. No seafood. I'm allergic to nuts. I've been eating rice almost every day for a week. I'm at the point that I stopped eating. I'm a bit concerned as I'm hypoglycemic, but can't eat rice again. I've been looking through recipes for hours but there's nothing. It doesn't help that I'm in an Eastern European town and soy sauce is the most exotic ingredient you can get. I never thought I'd get tired of cheese.
Question - do you find any problems combining fruit with other foods? I’m just starting to address longtime GI suffering & came across the advice to eat fruit on its own only.
Thank you soooooo much for making this video. I’m starting the elimination phase soon after I’ve seen my dietitian. Cheese toastie! Ok I’m no longer stressed lol 😂 love your videos as they are so informative and very clear. Big hugs 🤗 xxxx
I need too move onto the next phase and I'm so scared that it will give me my pain back. It was so horrible and being 12 at the time was so scary. It made me too develop really bad mental health and I never want too go back. The only thing I've reintroduced is toast.
I completely understand! I was the same when I first started. Feeling bad made me very anxious so I stayed on elimination for a long time. When you start, make sure you start with the small amounts first, and remember that even though it may be uncomfortable for a few hours, it might be worth it to be able to expand your diet and get different nutrients/fiber. It might also help to think of ways to get through the mental health part during testing phase for when it comes up.
@@notavailable5911 the statistic is low fodmap usually helps 3/4 people. I just happen to have a whole bunch of other things going on 😅. Coconut coffee vinegar and dairy are my 4 nightmares
I have bad pains so I went on the fod diet been on it for 4 weeks now I think going though the change of life brought this on ibs waiting to get hormone tablets off my doctors the pain of ibs is unreal I can't get out of bed with it

Hi Becky, this is really helpful, would you be able to do another video with some more ideas of what to eat on the elimination phase? ☺️☺️

I wish low fodmap helped me I’ve been doing it but still having pains a few weeks in doesn’t matter what I eat :/
@@notavailable5911 actually I have found out I have heaps of chemical intolerances to foods too so I ended up having to do an elimination diet :(

I would like to order her book 📘.
What the heck... mushrooms are a no no?? Tonight I am in pain...thought it was the eggs
I think oyster mushrooms are the only okay one
I’m still confused as how FODMAP works I’m going to have to figure it out because drs in the US tend to suck and not want to refer to specialist 🤦♀️
Aren’t peanuts a legume?... like lentils?
Yogurt and berries are hell for my stomach sadly.
All berries?
Watch the amount of daily fat intake. Other than that, good job. Side note: 'Schär' is pronounced like 'share'. I love their cornflakes.
That is a very good breakfast cereal but I find the fact that has sugar puts me off buying it.
nice....still gotta have a life ya know~~~!!
Lol wow, either you’re joking or clueless about ibs
I’d love to have a dietician my dr says it’s not necessary 🤦♀️ just to go vegan 🙄
