Having waded through a dozen fodmap TH-cam channels now, and become disillusioned with the very idea that I could see the diet through, at last some sensible, straightforward information and advice. No food fadiness or vegan overtones, just blissful common sense. If you are still out there, 7 years on, thanks so much!
Thank you VERY VERY much for this helpful and supportive video! I've suffered for over 60 years with undiagnosed IBS type symptoms and I'm just now following the fodmap diet and it's making a difference already in the first few weeks. I would eat cardboard if I thought it would help, so the low FODMAP diet is a breeze. My thanks to science and to people like you who take the time to share your knowledge, experiences and very helpful suggestions. All the best.
You can make garlic infused oil beceause fodmaps dissolves in water, not in oil or fat. So if you cut some garlic up in not too small pieces, fry them up in oil and then remove the garlic, the oil will not have any fodmaps in it. Thanx for the video :)
I started the Low FODMAP diet after being diagnosed with IBS more recently and it absolutely works for me, completely life changing. Excellent video. Thanks.
I would recommend getting an intolerance test. After suffering for over 2 years my doctor advised me of the Fodmap diet. I tried with let's say mixed results from the diet and medication. After reaching a low point I went for an food intolerance test and was told it was gluten I'm intolerant to. When discussing this with my doctor he explained that the allergy test they do wouldn't necessarily have picked it up as allergies and intolerance are different. Any ways. Since cutting out all gluten I feel so much better and suffer far less than I used to. Hope this helps anyone who took the time to read. I wish you all the best.
4 years ago when you uploaded this video I was watching it and now in 2021 January I am again here watching the same video.I really liked the way you crushed that garlic it's really so much mentally soothing.
Finally, a video made by someone isn't an obnoxiously hyper blogger chick saying "like" half of the time. Well constructed explanation without regurgitating stereotypical blogger talking points perpetuated by the internet.
Thank you so FREAKING MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been seaching for answers like these for almost 2 years now. I wont tell the story because we are all here for the same reasons Im sure but yea over a year 1/2 of doctors with creams + pills or telling me I had nothing... to finally find I had IBS by myself. There was a lot of stress in my life but I knew I had to change something I was doing wrong and this is finally it. I feel so wrong right now and thats everydays... im only 24 im trying my best at work & always feel tired.. didnt really know why but now I know exactly how to manage it. AGAIN THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING WHO YOU ARE!!! Im low on money but as soon as I get money this week Im starting a fresh & healthy life. Im so happy :)
Hey bud, this is so good to hear. In terms of money I don't think it needs to cost you lots to do this. I would invest in the app (to help you manage it) then print off some lists of food you can and can't eat for the fridge. Don't worry about buying expensive gluten free food. Just get good quality meat and veg (that you're allowed) and stick to that. Good luck :)
Omg, I am from Brazil and just discovered this diet... it is changing my life. Thanks a LOT for sharing this. It is not really disseminated here, and I am just SO HAPPY to have just discovered it with my doctor!
Fantastic video man! I've been dealing with bad "IBS" issues for my whole life, but they've gotten to the point of being almost unbearable the past 2 years. Got a handful of testing done over this time and everything comes back negative, so my doctor is convinced it's all just from stress of school, anxiety, and just IBS. I've been lactose intolerant most of my life. Going to try a gluten free diet starting in a few days and see what happens, in the case that it doesn't help me I have been looking into FODMAP as the next step I take. Tons of great information in this video. Glad you're doing so much better now!
Erik, thanks so much for the comment - it sounds like your story is very similar to mine. I cut out Gluten too but still found I was having a lot of trouble. The big changes for me have been Onion and Garlic alongside the lactose and gluten, I really recommend cutting them out too if you can. Good luck bud - let me know how you get on :)
omg! same thing--all my test are negative but i've been felt horrible. the amount of anxiety/stress i have is overbearing. However, recently, I've tried gluten free diet and a probiotic and I'm feeling better. Give it a try!
Hi Alastair, thank you so much for this fantastic video. Our son Andy who is 21 years old has been suffering for almost a year now and has recently discovered that his problem is IBS. The doctors he has seen so far have more or less told him that there is not much that can be done. Andy discovered your video on Wednesday and suddenly he is very upbeat about the whole thing. Hearing your story about how this diet changed your life has really given him hope. He already has your 'no foods' and 'yes foods' list up on his fridge. He is currently in a flatshare as a student at Nottingham University... and would you believe studying Food Sciences ! ... so who knows, this might even have an impact on his future professional activity ! I am French and my husband is English and we live in Bordeaux in France. We have started watching your other videos and we like them very much. The content, the style and the video editing are all fantastic. It is also inspiring to see how you created your own company and how you encourage other people to do the same through your genuine enthusiasm ! All the best Alastair, Cheers, Muriel and Gordon
Muriel, thats one of the nicest comments I've ever had so thank you so much. Doing videos can be a little lonely sometimes and you don't know who you are reaching unless they take the time to comment as you have. This one has really spurred me on to make more and come back from my short break even stronger. Thank you :) Tell Andy that if he wants to ask me anything, I'm more than happy to help. A
I am in the U.S., so we don't have many of the brands that you showed- but we definitely have plenty of substitutes. I just want to thank you so so much for this. Yours is one of the only videos that just makes it simple and easy and fun! Bless you and thank you. Continued health to you!
Thank you for making this video. Excellent references & links to great sources!! I will pass this on to anyone I know who is suffering. I began the LFM diet in April '19. The results were almost instant- in a good way! I was so surprised to be able to eat any veggies or fruits! Due to crc cancer treatment my gut stopped absorbing nutrients after 5 yrs NED. I was very strict with myself and did the elimination phase, testing and re-challenging is ongoing forever. It's so easy to get off track. I'm still working very hard on that. Yesterday ate at Subway. Been up since 1am doing all my emergency remedies (gut woke me up w/unspeakable suffering) so my day today is not a complete loss!
Alastair, these are great practical examples given. Most videos I've watched don't show what foods to eat or not to eat, so I'm delighted to have found yours. Excellent, thank you! 🍽️
Great video. I've been on the diet for a month. An entire month of no intestinal/bowel distress. Don't miss onions or garlic at all. difficult when I'm out, though.
I've been on the low FODMAP diet for about 6 years now and this would have to be the best explanation I have ever heard. I also can't do mushrooms. Have tried intros them into my diet a couple of times with terrible results. I'm from Australia and the info from the Monash University is incredible. But I must send a big thank you out to my gastroenterologist who told me about this diet. So thank you Dr David Curran 😃
This was so helpful!! I’ve been feeling great and only been on low fodmap for a week but I think getting rid of gluten and dairy has made a huge difference. Thanks for sharing your experience, it makes it feel so much more manageable!
Well done Carla, sticking with it long term is the real test - for me it was a no brainer in the end. Pain or happiness, I know which I'd rather have :)
I'm not on the Fodmap diet but have heard about it and it all seemed to be very confusing but this little video of yours is great because it makes it easy to understand what you can eat instead of the Fodmap food. Thank you for making it.
You are amazing! This video is going to help so many people, myself included. Stoked to hear your gut troubles have left you and your so healthy now. I'm honestly feelin more motivated to attempt this lifestyle than ever. Thankyou, Thankyou! :)
Alistair...you are a star...I have suffered for ever....i have tried so many diets....low carb high fat worked really well for me. I came across this last night and ordered a book straight away as I am flying to Oz soon and am so anxious about the flight....hopefully I will be able to get this all sorted before I fly. Your video is so informative....I love your approach to it. Well Done. Kerry
Excellent video. I've had IBS since I was 28. I am now 77. They called it spastic colon here in the USA back then. At first I only had an attack maybe once or twice year, and not a bad one. As I have aged it has come on more and more often and now the attacks are major. I am new to the lowfodmap way of eating but it is really helping! I can eat a little bit of regular bread, but just maybe one slice a day. A teeny tiny amount of onion in a recipe...like a teaspoonful minced very fine. I use lactose free milk but am able to tolerate 1 tablespoon of heavy cream in my coffee each morning. I havent seen lactose free cream here in my small community but will be on the lookout. No lactose free cheese either but I can handle a small amount of cheddar cheese Thanks for the great info. I'm also a diabetic so that makes things twice as hard. Have to stay away from sugars. .even honey and maple syrup but liquid pure stevia is my go to sweetener.
Same here. 72 here and when I was in my 20s was diagnosed with spastic colon. Never had it explain to me what it was and so I went on my merry way. Fast forward to the last six years and the myriad of symptoms from this IBS it’s pretty much overwhelming. Just started the FOD map three days ago and already my belly is a little bit flatter. This is not meant for a long-term diet however and it’s only meant to do long enough to heal the gut. Given that, I’m sure eliminating most of these things would be better in the long term. I think years of IBS does it damage that may be irreparable. I know that it causes leaky gut syndrome, SIBO And can cause chronic pain such as fibromyalgia.
This is absolutely fabulous! I was so overwhelmd! before I saw this! I did not know where to even begin - this gave mke a start - I will watch it a few tines to get knowledge of this diet!
Thank you Kathleen, there is loads of good stuff online so try not to get too overwhelmed. I put some links in the description which should help too. Good luck :)
Saw a consultant today. He told me about FODMAPS. I then had a mini meltdown thinking about how to do this with a husband and 3 kids!! But now I have watched your video, I'm feeling a lot more optimistic 🙂. Have ordered the Sue Shepherd books and will hit the shops tomorrow. Many thanks for all the info. Suz
Omg this is so informative thank u !! I have given up a lot of foods because it’s just not worth hurting! I sure appreciate you being so through with this info !
Thank god I found this video!! I was giving minimal information and no support about FODMAPs from my doctor and was really struggling. This has really helped my kick start my journey! Yay.
Thanks so much for taking the time to explain , caution, and recommend solutions to everyday foods. I have been suffering from weight loss tiredness, brain fog and a walking air balloon as the days progress. Medical scratch heads and prescribe for indigestion, which I haven’t suffered from ever,! Now gathering TH-cam info which gives me hope that it is possible to feel better than I have been for too long now . Thank you for sharing, you have made my day to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Best and most useful video on the subject so far. Thank you for sharing it helped a lot! The only thing is your list of OK and NOT OK foods in your kitchen... I couldn't read them :(. Thank you anyway, hugs from Budapest
Cheers Alistair, that was really helpful. Have been suffering IBS most of my adult life, and it's been getting worse, so am about to give the FODMAP diet a go.
I've read if you buy cheese make sure it has 0 % sugar and it's about lactose free. Thx for the video. I am not only on this but also another medical diet which I'm trying to juggle because some items on both will set off one problem or another.
Hi Linda, I'd not heard that to be honest. I seem to be ok with low amounts of normal cheese as well so its not an area of the diet I worry about too much. I wish you the very best with it.
Thx Alastair. I appreciate the great info here and did order the book you suggested. BTW Ebay had the best price I can find on it if anyone else is looking Some sites were nearly twice the price. Sometimes it's difficult because there is so much conflicting info. I have been reading all I can find. The only cheese that seems to kill me is cottage. Ricotta is on the bad list but for whatever odd reason I can eat it. This sure is an uphill battle. Best of luck to you too.
Thank you so much. Just discovered your video. Funny and informative. My special needs daughter ( young adult ) has IBS no help from doctors, just bought that book , putting her on the FODMAP diet. Done some shopping for this, but your tips and ideas are really appreciated and many thanks.
Utterly brilliant video, not sure if you know but the university named in this prog now has an app, which is quite easy to follow. A tip I have is that I make my own stocks and freeze them in ice cube bags. Bagged a Sunday dinner chicken carcass off my brother in-law at the weekend.(much to everyone's amusement.) So nice to hear tips from someone who has been following the diet for sometime. Thanks for inviting us into your home you are inspirational. Thanks for posting.
So glad it was of use Daisy - it was fun making it. If you want more info on it, I did a Udemy course which goes into much detail about the diet and my journey: www.udemy.com/low-fodmap-diet/
I have been suffering with this for many years without knowing what to do. I finally had a gastroenterologist tell me that I had IBF and I need to see a nutritionist to go on the side. Thanks so much for sharing
Changed my life SO much! I thought I was going to die from the IBS experience. My doctor had never heard of it. Lol. My sister recommended it to me! So awesome! I love her! I have found that following the "rules" of food combining has helped me stick with it, to understand what and how to eat.
Carrageenan is in a lot of things you wouldn't suspect as well, check your toothpaste label. Even though you don't eat toothpaste, it's ingredients are quickly absorbed through your gums!
So glad it was of use - it was fun making it. If you want more info on it, I did a Udemy course which goes into much detail about the diet and my journey: www.udemy.com/low-fodmap-diet/
Brilliant video so glad you've cured yourself. My daughter has just been prescribed this diet by the NHS. They now specifically say it's not a completely "gluten-free and lactose-free diet and you should be fine with the normal much cheaper rice crispies, oatmeal, oat cakes, butter and cheeses.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and tips! I've suffered from IBS for over 30yrs. I've always been extremely nutritionally conscious, avoiding high-fructose corn syrup, imitation color additives, MSG, BHT, etc. Last year was awful. I developed auto-immune hives which migrated all over my body for 5 miserable months until I finally met with a wonderful allergy Dr. After getting the hives under control with antihistamines, my IBS was continuing to get worse until I ended up in the hospital last November. It was then that my gastroenterologist shared and encouraged the Low-Fodmap diet. From the second day of starting the low-fodmap diet I felt better. I've been blaming many of the wrong foods and not realizing that some healthy foods are not good for some of us. I've got a little ways to go, but am excited to finally have some control and better understanding of my condition and my body. It's nice to know I'm not alone. Thanks again, you've been a big help!
Hi Tracy, your story is so good to hear. Obviously its sad you've had such a hard time but its amazing you're getting it under control. It did take me a while so all I'd say is make sure you stick with it :)
Thanks for the video! Currently on week 2 of the low fodmap diet & have had some better days, and some not so good. So it's nice to hear that it's worth carrying on and hopefully it'll help in the long run.
After 12hrs in extreme pain I was told by my doctor that I just needed to take daily over the counter medication for the rest of my life and no food avoidance was necessary. I started doing my own research and came across FODMAP diet. I’ve completed 3 weeks and I finally have my energy back, walk 5 miles yesterday and I’m not tired today. Not sure if I’m going to regret or not, but I tried a little bit of coffee this morning with almond milk. I’ve been coffee free since I started the program and honestly I don’t even know why I tried today. I think I was missing the ritual of drinking coffee, not the coffee itself. Thank you for your very informative video
Thank you, thank you for making this accessible video. Grateful to people like yourself for sharing and I'm planning to give it a try soon! Happy belly to you!
Absolutely love your style of video, fun, informative... You have a great delivery even on a serious topic....Love it, not the IBS so much but you and your vid.....Thanks...will defo look into formal further. Keep up the great vids and the fun stuff.....Gotta have fun!!! X
Thank you for explaining it throughly! I am dealing with this pandemic as we all are, lost of insurance and a narrowing in between my small and large intestines. This will have to be something I will have to hit head on asap I get back to work and insurances starts. I'm glad I found info with this fodmap diet so let's see how it works for me.....
Good visuals! You are good at teaching this and should make more Fodmap videos even though I may not agree with the length of time being years. I am.impress with your articulation of all those sugars. I am curious to know your source of being on the FODMAP diet for years instead of 2- 6 weeks or two months?
Great video, Thank you merry very much! I found another fabulous substitute for garlic, a pricey though (for special occasions is perfect). It is anchovies. Olive oil, lemon juice, mustard (crap free), maple, salt, anchovies mushed and stirred together make wonderful salad dressing. With that bite you missed.
Thank you for making this video, this has been one of the most helpful videos I have watched, I have recently been diagnosed with IBS and I just felt like I got no information but you have just helped loads and I love the tips and advice that you gave!
So glad it was of use - it was fun making it. If you want more info on it, I did a Udemy course which goes into much detail about the diet and my journey: www.udemy.com/low-fodmap-diet/
Great info for a beginner like myself...you have really helped to get my head around it all as it’s a minefield of info out there. Hope I feel better soon.
I used to use Garlic on everything and all of my Meals and started one day getting the worst chest pains. I literally felt like I was dying. Thought it was something more serious as the pain kept travelling to my Stomach. Ended up at A&E and found out it was trapped gas from eating the wrong types of Food. I was eating Garlic, Lentils, Wheat, Chickpeas, Kidney Beans. I assumed because it was Healthy, I was ok. Then I was recommended on Fodmap. Just currently going through my trigger foods and seeing what sets me off.
Really enjoyed this. Have recently been recommended this diet by my doctor after many years of digestive problems. Had never heard of it before...he had to write it down for me to research! Think I will order the book you recommended too. My last "ordinary" Sunday lunch today and I start tomorrow!
Hi Kay, great to hear. Really don't worry too much about what you'll lose. Immerse yourself in the substitutions and it doesn't have to be as bigger deal. Its not easy out and about but at home it really can be like for like in many cases.
Thank you so much. I’ve been bad and getting worse my whole life. Finally diagnosed at 53 years of age and on antibiotics and now a lifetime of habits to undo.
According to NHS FODMAP advice, Waitrose Spelt Sourdough bread is fine for IBS sufferers. It uses spelt flour using the sourdough method. It does contain wheat but does not affect you.
i would just cut out dairy completely FODMAP or not. U can sometimes use organic raw goat kefir and grassfed ghee for some health benefits but best not to play games if u have a food sensitivity.
So glad it was of use Rebekka - it was fun making it. If you want more info on it, I did a Udemy course which goes into much detail about the diet and my journey: www.udemy.com/low-fodmap-diet/
Great video! This diet really works for IBS. Have you tried substituting spelt bread for wheat? It has been a great alternative for me. Same with spelt pasta, spelt crackers, etc.
So glad it was of use - it was fun making it. If you want more info on it, I did a Udemy course which goes into much detail about the diet and my journey: www.udemy.com/low-fodmap-diet/
Hi Raks - I used the list on this blog for a long time but have adapted it to myself over time: jamieweightsforit.wordpress.com/2014/08/24/eating-my-way-to-a-healthy-lifestyle-the-low-fodmap-and-paleo-diet/
enjoyed your vid. - i related to everything you said re managing the diet. Especially about eating out, which has become much easier since legislation came in 2 years ago, making it necessary for resteraunt to identify certain allergins. here is another tip. carry a piece of paper which lists the main things you can not eat. give it to the waiter and ask himto take it into the kitchen with your order. it makes it clear for the chef what he can and should not give you. Translate it not different languages for when you travel abroad. lastly dont forget you are the PAYING customer, you are entitled to have a meal you can eat.
hello from México and thank you so much for all the information, great video, my mind its blown,i need to try this diet, im tired of feeling bad... i just hope in México we had that many awsome products available
Very informative thx . I've started to look up all my needs regarding gluten free n lactose free... mo money but I'll work around it, n I've made notes n will surely pu5 on my fridge for reminder. One of the best fodmap videos really
Thank you so much Alastair I have suffered so badly since both my sons died ages 16 and 18 ten months apart before that I could eat anything I liked. The attacks have become so severe that I was put in hospital for four days as they thought I had CDiff. The Doctor put me on Colefec tablets which help a lot to keep the attack’s at bay but when I get one it make me so ill and completely debilitated. I didn’t know anything about this diet and watched a video from the Monash university today. Then I found your video and am going to start today. Thank you for taking time out of your life to help others. Will let you know how I get on off to the supermarket now. I have been eating all the stuff I shouldn’t but didn’t know I shouldn’t. X
Quick note on the dairy: coming from someone who is lactose intolerant (I can handle virtually zero of the stuff), not all dairy is created equal in terms of lactose. Since it is milk sugar, many foods that have been lacto-fermented (e.g. plain yogurt, kefir, etc.) actually eliminate most of the lactose in the culturing process. Sour cream is not one of these, but plain Greek yogurt is safe and nearly a perfect substitute for this. Fermentation actually opens up possibilities for things other than just dairy, as gas (which causes bloating) produced from the bacteria digesting the FODMAPs we can't happens in a jar rather than your colon. Many high fat products such as butter (which is 85% milk fat or greater) and certain cheeses contain very little lactose. I use large amounts of butter with no problems. Finally, buying lactase supplements in pill form is much cheaper here in the US than buying lactose-free dairy products. Hope this helps!
Dude I love this video. I have a short attention span and I really watched this whole thing through, not skipping anything, even took some notes. This is really helpful, thank you so much-I can’t wait to try these products and get started with low FODMAP because the IBS thing has had such a negative impact on my health, just life in general. I’m a new subscriber so I’m not sure if you’ve done so already, but if you haven’t, could you make one of those “what I eat in a day videos”, or meal plans? If you’ve done this or something similar then just drop the link. Thank you for your time and this video!! 👋💌
Thank you so much! I'm planning on doing some new videos this year but do check out the Udemy course link in the description too as there is loads more useful info in that
Love the video. I'm working on reintroduction. So far, I have been good with bread, honey and small amount of lactose. Onion and garlic are a killer. Not sure why I am okay with bread but not onion and garlic? It's a huge success and feel great, but have lost 4 kg this month. Looking like you now!
thanks. great info. just been recommended this by my GP. so currently researching. I've been dealing with the IBS recently by not eating as that is the only way I can leave house and ho to work. I only work 1day a week and go out 1 day a week so no meal the night before and no food the days I'm out. so working out what I can and cannot eat will be wonderful. thanks for the info found it very informative.
Di I truly hope you find this works for you. All I'd say is that its really important to stick with it. I've not looked back so I hope its as successful for you. Good luck :)
I am about to start the FODMAP diet and hope it works. Sick of being sick.
Good luck Tracy - hows it been going?

Get SIBO test it will show weather you have bacteria or archaea overgrowth.
Did the diet or anything else help you?
That test is fine, but more important than the test is symptoms! If you have the symptoms - you have SIBO!@@dustington1
Having waded through a dozen fodmap TH-cam channels now, and become disillusioned with the very idea that I could see the diet through, at last some sensible, straightforward information and advice. Thank you VERY VERY much for this helpful and supportive video! You can make garlic infused oil beceause fodmaps dissolves in water, not in oil or fat. So if you cut some garlic up in not too small pieces, fry them up in oil and then remove the garlic, the oil will not have any fodmaps in it. Thanx for the video :)
Great advice thanks Hege :)
I discovered your video on Stomach oracle omnibus - there's plenty more good videos there that will help out
Hege Skoghus how much oil and garlic do you use to make garlic infused olive oil?
Hege Skoghus there is plenty on line about how to make garlic infused oils, just make sure you take the garlic out don’t leave it in the oil.
Be very careful doing this as it can go off and make you very sick
This is the best video on FODMAPs on TH-cam. Thanks for posting.
Gluten is always one of the first foods I recommend removing, it's one of the most common problem foods AND it's a high FODMAP food!
4 years ago when you uploaded this video I was watching it and now in 2021 January I am again here watching the same video.I really liked the way you crushed that garlic it's really so much mentally soothing.
I love the way you made this video, giving direct examples. A lot of your viewers seem to really appreciate this, and I think my clients would too.
It’s great having someone down to earth like you 😇and not showing charts and stuff😱 just showing the bad foods 🤩 fantastic video 👍
Thanks Janet - tried to keep it down to earth
Finally, a video made by someone isn't an obnoxiously hyper blogger chick saying "like" half of the time. Well constructed explanation without regurgitating stereotypical blogger talking points perpetuated by the internet.
Haha thank you - I tried hard :)
seriously thank you so much for this video! It feels good to know that other people understand what I'm dealing with
Glad it resonated :)

Exactly the same story, reached the end of my patience with constantly feeling ill and the awful pains. Day four of FODMAP, we can do it everyone :)
How are you now? Did fodmap work for you?

Hi Gabriela - I felt exactly the same here in the UK two years ago :) Did you see the Udemy course I've put together?
Do u have viking ancestry!!??
No problem at all! And thanks for the advice! I will try to cut those out as well :)
omg! same thing--all my test are negative but i've been felt horrible. the amount of anxiety/stress i have is overbearing. However, recently, I've tried gluten free diet and a probiotic and I'm feeling better. Give it a try!
Dahlia try it you will notice a difference
Monash app will help
Thank you :)
Tell Andy that if he wants to ask me anything, I'm more than happy to help.
A
I am in the U.S., so we don't have many of the brands that you showed- but we definitely have plenty of substitutes.
Thanks for this really useful video. I've started on FODMAPs but you've made me realise how much further I need to go.
Stick with it Duncan - Im going to do a course on Udemy where I go into more detail if you're interested :)
Alastair, these are great practical examples given. Most videos I've watched don't show what foods to eat or not to eat, so I'm delighted to have found yours. Excellent, thank you! 🍽️
Best video I have seen so far. Thanks so much!
Great video. I've been on the diet for a month. An entire month of no intestinal/bowel distress.
Don't miss onions or garlic at all. difficult when I'm out, though.
Hi Katherine, great to hear you're having success too - keep it up :)
Cheers Jonny, it took me quite a while to get my head around it but once you do then its really not too bad. Good luck with the diet bud.
You are amazing! This video is going to help so many people, myself included. Stoked to hear your gut troubles have left you and your so healthy now. I'm honestly feelin more motivated to attempt this lifestyle than ever. Thankyou, Thankyou! :)
Hi Tiffini thank you so much - how are you getting on now?
Pardon the pun, but great digestible information
Ha ha love it - my pleasure :)
This is the best video I have seen so far on the topic: informative, funny and very useful. Thank you!
Thank you Marianna, that really is very kind of you :)
Well Done. Kerry
Thanks Kerry - Im so glad you liked it. Good luck with the diet :)
Kerry 7yrs later, still high fat low carb ?
Works well for me too
Excellent video.
Suz
Paul - I'm so happy my video had that affect - that makes it really worthwhile. Good luck with the diet and keep it up!
Thank you! Feeling really hopeless because I keep messing up this diet. This has given me a burst of positivity to keep trying!!
I was like that for a fair few months - stick with it :)
Omg this is so informative thank u !! I have given up a lot of foods because it’s just not worth hurting! I sure appreciate you being so through with this info !
My pleasure Sherry - good luck :)
Thank god I found this video!! I was giving minimal information and no support about FODMAPs from my doctor and was really struggling. This has really helped my kick start my journey! Yay.
Thank you SO much, it is all so much to take in at the beginning. I’m still finding my way and your info is very helpful.
Good luck William - Id love to know how you get on. Check out the course on Udemy for a bit more detail
Did it help you?
I was diagnosed with IBS over 35 years ago. It is getting worse. I am going to try this.
25 years for me. Good luck
Good luck...cutting bread out of my diet helped with stomach bloat
Hi Soraya thank you for the comments. Check out the course on Udemy which goes a bit deeper too. Good luck with it all.
Did you find someone to support you with your diet?
Changed my life SO much! I thought I was going to die from the IBS experience. My doctor had never heard of it. Lol. My sister recommended it to me! So awesome! I love her! I have found that following the "rules" of food combining has helped me stick with it, to understand what and how to eat.
Thank you so much the best video l have seen so far so helpful. I have just started fodmaps l am feeling so much better you have given new ideas
When consuming lactose free products, be sure to look out for carrageenan, it can cause IBS issues.
Carrageenan is in a lot of things you wouldn't suspect as well, check your toothpaste label. Even though you don't eat toothpaste, it's ingredients are quickly absorbed through your gums!
Great tips thanks
I have trouble with malodextrin. Anyone else?
Just got diagnosed yesterday. Very helpful and reassuring. Cheers mate.
Just diagnosed w Diverticulitis. Best breakdown if information Ive seen yet. Cool. Thanks.
Thanks for the video! Currently on week 2 of the low fodmap diet & have had some better days, and some not so good. So it's nice to hear that it's worth carrying on and hopefully it'll help in the long run.
Stick with it Lizzie, it takes time :)
I love everything a-bowel-t this video!!
This has been a pleasure watching. Very helpful. 😊
Thank you Lynn, comments like this really make my day :)
Great video, just what i needed to watch, thanks 😊
Wow, what a testimonial for the low FODMAP diet, it really does work in certain situations! Glad you feel better!
Thank you, thank you for making this accessible video. Grateful to people like yourself for sharing and I'm planning to give it a try soon! Happy belly to you!
Thanks Brandee :)
Absolutely love your style of video, fun, informative... You have a great delivery even on a serious topic....Love it, not the IBS so much but you and your vid.....Thanks...will defo look into formal further. Keep up the great vids and the fun stuff.....Gotta have fun!!! X
Thanks Georgina - appreciate the kind comments :)
It is indeed a shorter elimination vid but I just say I'm on it still as I've adapted my diet around it and feel 100% better for it.
Oooh I love this suggestion, thank you!
Really great video bro! Many thanks from the states! I need that list on the fridge.
Go make it - today :)
B - Download the Monash University FODMAP Diet App, it has a list of everything you can and can’t eat, how much you can eat if each and why.
Great video with REAL life experiences. Very helpful list of Dos and Don'ts along with alternatives. Thanks very much !!!
PLeasure Nathan :)
This is such a helpful video thank you for taking the time to share
Great info for a beginner like myself...you have really helped to get my head around it all as it’s a minefield of info out there. Hope I feel better soon.
My doctor just told me to try this diet for ibs. This is very helpful. Thank you for this video!
Great job my friend...confirmation I need to change diet lifestyle! You get 10+
great video friend, I will save this to watch again and again and again
Brilliant video great way of explaining thankyou.
Thank you so much for making this video. I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate it!
Cheers Jonathan :)
Thank you so much. I’ve been bad and getting worse my whole life. Finally diagnosed at 53 years of age and on antibiotics and now a lifetime of habits to undo.
Good luck Julie - Im sure if you stick with it, it will really change your life for the better
According to NHS FODMAP advice, Waitrose Spelt Sourdough bread is fine for IBS sufferers. It uses spelt flour using the sourdough method. It does contain wheat but does not affect you.
You are so funny! Love it. Thanks for all your help.
Thanks Lynn - appreciate it :)
I am restarting the fodmap diet. Found this video pretty informative. Thanks for the tips.
i would just cut out dairy completely FODMAP or not. U can sometimes use organic raw goat kefir and grassfed ghee for some health benefits but best not to play games if u have a food sensitivity.
I am sick of this unbearable pain please thank you!!
really very useful. Loved the crushed garlic!!
Cheers Peter I had fun making it ;)
Love this video! It was very helpful. Thank you Alastair :)
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed :)
This was super helpful, I am just working this all out.
Great video mate, really useful info just what my Doc recommend today. Can you please share the list of foods on your fridge.
Hi Raks - I used the list on this blog for a long time but have adapted it to myself over time: jamieweightsforit.wordpress.com/2014/08/24/eating-my-way-to-a-healthy-lifestyle-the-low-fodmap-and-paleo-diet/
Thanks Alastair, much appreciated.
Great tips and i willalso keep in mind now it may take months to see real results. Thank you 😊
enjoyed your vid.
Love the idea of taking down what you can and can't eat on a piece of paper for the waiter to take to the kitchen - great advice!
It is deliberating. I have described my pain this way.
hello from México and thank you so much for all the information, great video, my mind its blown,i need to try this diet, im tired of feeling bad... i just hope in México we had that many awsome products available
I hope you do too Carla - good luck :)
Very informative thx . I've started to look up all my needs regarding gluten free n lactose free... mo money but I'll work around it, n I've made notes n will surely pu5 on my fridge for reminder. One of the best fodmap videos really
Thanks Bernadette, its doesnt need to cost a fortune. You dont have to buy all the free from stuff if you're careful
Really helpful video, simple and reassuring. I'm so sad to give up garlic but your tip about infused oil was very helpful.
glad the tip helped :)
Thank you, I just figured out that I actually have ibs and need some sort of change, I can’t handle this pain anymore. I’m praying this diet can help.
My god Jackie I am so sorry to hear your story. I really hope the diet helps you. Do try and find help in the way of a dietician/nutrionist if you can
Quick note on the dairy: coming from someone who is lactose intolerant (I can handle virtually zero of the stuff), not all dairy is created equal in terms of lactose.
I'm planning on doing some new videos this year but do check out the Udemy course link in the description too as there is loads more useful info in that
Hey man...great video! Very cool stuff.
Thanks dude
Great video for people just learning about FODMAP.
Thanks Harvey
Love the video. I'm working on reintroduction. So far, I have been good with bread, honey and small amount of lactose. Onion and garlic are a killer. Not sure why I am okay with bread but not onion and garlic? It's a huge success and feel great, but have lost 4 kg this month. Looking like you now!
Ha Ha great news Lance :)
thanks. great info. just been recommended this by my GP. so currently researching.
OMG thank you! Made it so clear and easy to understand!
