Nice job on this. There is no doubt that The Cure is one of the greats! Smith has it all. Lyrics, voice and an incredible sense of building layers. (Bach reincarnated) It wouldn’t be a stretch to pick almost any Cure song and find a masterpiece in it. There is a DVD of a concert in Berlin where The Cure did three of their albums in chronological order. Pornography, Disintegration and Blood Flowers. When you see the songs together, you get a sense of the scale. They are epic! Massive! Bombastic creations! It is the goth version of a Grateful Dead show. I hope you keep digging up these little treasure Daves. With so much good new music out there, it’s easy to forget about the past. Thanks for the reminder!
Great take! Never was much into The Cure, but you're right vulnerability like that wasn't a thing in the 80's. Sure took a lot of courage for them to put it out there like that. I wonder how much they influenced Seattle Grunge that way? Songs like Black or All Apologies?
There are a bunch of great songs by The Cure, wonder melody, clear and delightful lyrics. Legendary creative vocals and studio work. Like all great bands, they grow on you if you give ‘em a chance. ☺️
Umm and I’d like to add to Brads comment, Just like Heaven ( which was involved in our wedding). Also the most requested song by me in the radio days. May be my favourite band of all time. Love it Dave!
