    I am so glad you are in the process of discovering the Motown sound. That era, tragically left behind by modern artists and radio, is a keen example of the American Song Book which was famous and enjoyed around the world. Furthermore, today's artists, with few exceptions, have no idea of the level of talent, training, skill and hard work that was required to develop such fantastic music and productions, around the globe and for decades. Incidentally, in his recent movie, "The Equalizer," Denzel Washington's character, McCall, reported that before going to work at the fictional "Home Mart" he was "A Pip....no, not a pimp, A PIP" referencing this fantastic and historic musical act. Keep listening and learning Lizzie. The Motown era's contributions to American culture that cannot be overstated.

    I saw her at a jazz festival a couple of years ago and she was just wonderful. Now I realise she was one of the greatest singers of the last 60 years. Effortless and powerful with so much warmth and humanity in her voice. A real treat.

    There are four ladies that blew me away on the 70s and still blow me away today, my angel Karen, Linda R., Roberta F., and this elegant soulful beautiful lady, Miss Gladys Knight. I have to add one more, the incredible vocals and styling of Marilyn McCoo. There you have it, sheer musical heaven.

    This was the last song that they recorded for Motown in 1973. Try as they did, they felt they were being overlooked. Gladys also discovered The Jackson Five in 1966 when they were making their Bones at The Regal in Chicago, across the state from Indiana. They hit it big with I Heard It Through The Grapevine then Marvin Gaye's Version was bigger staying at Number One for Seven Weeks. She is known as The Empress of Soul and Mariah Carey inducted them into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. You need to listen to other hits in their Pre Motown Days like "Letter Full Of Tears" and "Giving Up". Dick Clark The Host Of American Bandstand would accidentally call them Gladys Pips & The Knights. Afterwards they went to Buddah Records where they recorded "On And On", also check out "If I Were Your Woman", "I Don't Want To Do Wrong"

    Good song. Gladys hit her best when she sang "You're the best thing"... It starts with "I've had my share" I grew up in the 50's and 60's, went to collage in 1971. Gladys Knight is the best singer, Linda was amazing, Janice died before she got to her best, so many women were singing, but Gladys was the best. I know, I know, Aretha and Barbra were supposed to be the best. Nope. Over promoted. Gladys Knight had the best voice since Patsy Cline.

    • @lizziethegangsterhippie9291
      @lizziethegangsterhippie9291  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Patsy Cline had such a beautiful voice and in my opinion I do believe Gladys did get overshadowed by other mainstream artists at the time but hopefully newer generations will appreciate her amazing voice too!
