    I love the subtle play with language in this film: In the beginning Hans Landa says: "Au revoir" Shosanna (until we meet again). In contrast: When he left Monsieur LaPadite and gave the order to shoot the hidden people, he said "Adieu" (Farewell/Goodbye). He had no intention of seeing one of them again.
    Second moment: German "three" vs. English "three". I saw this in theatres and instantly, I knew he had given away his cover. Genius moments. Subtle, but so powerful.

    In the restaurant scene, Landa orders her milk because her family were dairy farmers, and a strudel because it has lard in it, and jews dont consume it.

  • @alysefan2264
    @alysefan2264 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In the scene where he orders milk for her that tells you he knows who she is, but in another cruel twist of his character he orders the strudel with cream. Jews arent allowed to eat cream but he makes sure she eats some knowing she is Jewish but pretending to be someone else. It is a diabolical taunt.

    Top 3 Tarantino movie for me for me.
    It's either Kill Bill vol 1, Inglorious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill vol 2...
    or Inglorious Basterds, Kill Bill as a whole, Pulp Fiction.
    edited ot add: Christoph Waltz actually speaks FIVE languages in the movie: German, French, English, Italian... and Polish (he says the word "pusty" which means empty when he doesn't shoot Shoshanna).

Christoph Waltz the double GOAT. Every time Quentin needs an Oscar for his movies he should knock on your door. Your record is unbeaten 2 out of 2.

It has an amazing stacked cast in it as well. Enjoyed y’alls reactions!

    You know Tarantino is a genius when you realize how he uses references.
    For example: when Soshanna meets Landa a disturbance music starts, and that music is from a horror movie called "the Entity", released in 1981, where a woman was molested by an invisible entity., and every time the entity attacked her you heard that music.
    So the fact that the same music starts as soon as Soshanna hears Landa's name, before even seeing him, matches the "entity theatening", because just the presence is enaugh to be a menace

    The opening scene of this movie is a masterclass in writing and filmmaking. Everything that the characters do, the way everything is staged and even the way the camera is positioned and moves throughput the scene displays a struggle for control of the situation and we watch Landa effectively take all the control and break this man down.
    Possibly one of the best scenes in any movie ever.

    At that point in the war, everyone knew Germany lost. He knew he was in the losing team. He saw the writing on the wall. He killed the actress because he was really a patriot and felt like she was a traitor. He felt like his betrayal was okay, because they already lost, and he needed to survive. He never had remorse until the end.

    The bit with the milk and the streudel with cream is a subtle test to see if she was a Jew -- eating such in combination is usually a violation of kosher dietary rules. A very observant Jew might hesitate or refuse to eat the food, and that'd be a tip-off to Landa that she was Jewish.
