Potentially interesting sidenote: The proper word for Buddhist meditation is the Sanskrit word Bhavana. This is more accurately translated as Mental Cultivation, which I personally experience as more descriptive. Thus one question we can ask ourselves when choosing a meditation method is; what are we trying to cultivate?

Hi Ari, thanks for this! I have finally decided that meditation isn't staying focused. What meditation really is, is just remembering to bring your mind back to the focus. Ideally you do this sooner and sooner as you get better (rather than daydreaming for 10 minutes, which I have done!) I have also done meditations where I take a walk and focus on alternately breathing in air energy through my lungs, and "breathing" in earth energy through my feet with each step. Now I am a retired person so my time is very unstructured and figuring out how to fit in meditation regularly has been very challenging for me. Morning is not an option, but I finally realized that rather than pick a random time, I can hook it to some other regularly scheduled task. So now I have an alarm shortly before I am to start cooking supper, reminding me to meditate first. They are kind of connected as one time block. This seems to be working, at least for now!

I like the way you do your videos and the way you take each subject and you put it in a way that I understand especially as a beginner with being a witch I enjoy your videos very much

I find meditation really helps me deal with my ptsd. When I'm having a particularly hard time keeping those memories from interfering with my daily life, I take some time for a guided meditation and I come out so much better.

I'm both a witch and a practicing Buddhist. I also am on the Autism spectrum and probably have a touch of ADD. I do yoga but I can't do the meditation I literally fall asleep.
I've found a really helpful monk here on TH-cam who has a qualification as a clinical social worker here in the United States (you can act as a therapist with this qualification) and he's got a TON of ideas on alternatives to traditional meditation. His channel name is Nick Keomahavong and he has some really good ideas on alternative methods in a few videos.
Personally I find taking a walk and just thinking in nature or doing some other meaningful, wholesome body movement preferable to sitting still and trying to calm my mind. It's just not a Thing. Lots of ways to meditate, as varied as people! :)

Classic meditation I find difficult too, for the exact reasons you mentioned. However, what I do enjoy doing which is also very meditative is coloring or painting sth … and really allow myself to be in the moment and just pick colours on feeling… the movements of the pencil or the paint brush is very soothing and mindful if you really put your focus on that. Maybe someone here can do,sth with this idea so,thought I mentioned it ☺️

Very interesting video! Do you also find that digestion disturbs a bit while meditating? I have to wait a couple of hours after one main meal, or one hour after a snack.

I can't say I've had that before! But it's certainly understandable

It might depend on the change of the breathing technique...since we should breathe using the diaphragm muscle, but we often don't, when we meditate we tend to change our breathing pattern, and use more this muscle, that is shaped almost as a dome, is attached on our last ribs on the front, on our spine on the back, and almost lies on our abdominal organs, including stomach and intestines. When we breathe in, this "dome" flattens down, and slightly massages the organs, but when the pressure in the abdominal cavity gets too much, it releases back; this up and down movement can actually facilitate peristaltic function and other things related to digestion, but it can get loud, and if the stomach is irritated, or too full, it can become a bit problematic...I don't know if that is the case, but I hope that my little ted talk can give some insights on why you have problems to meditate just after eating...

@@annalisalundberg4561 I don't have problems with my digestion while meditating actually, the only disturbance I perceive is in my mind and focus. Thanks a lot for your explanation, it's interesting and useful anyway. 🌿

@@graziagiro130 that was just a hypothesis...glad you found it interesting, albeit not useful for your specific case 😊 thanks for your kindness, wish you the best
