What a gorgeous home. I can't believe the owner paid for all of your renovations and then added that to the rent. That's fantastic. Can you stay longer if you want to?
Hello, sorry if it sounds confusing. I paid the owner only the rent and then I paid for all of the renovations. Combing the cost of both in 10 years only costs $80k for the whole 10 years. But the caveat is that I have to pay the 10 years of rent up front and of course the renovation up front (which I used money from the sale of my home in Los Angeles). By the way, if I had rented a small apartment in the US (which is almost non existent these days) for $1500 a month, in 10 years, I'm would have paid 3 time more ($180,000). It's just like bulk shopping at Costco, but with rent. LOL.
Thank you Debbie, for this great video. I still don‘t understand how the living / rental works for longstay in Bali. So you did the whole renovation of the villa? And you had been allowed to do this? By law or by contract? How did you find the villa? Is the owner allowed to raise the rent? Did you have to do all the renovations? Was this an obligation out of the lease contract? Could you decide what to renovate and how? Had you been allowed to? After expiring of the lease, everything is owned to the Owner of the villa? This is so much different then the housing / rental-laws in Germany, which I know very well, that I would really hear more about. Thank you 🙏 very much for showing your beautiful house und style. ❤ Love what you do and how brave you are.

You have such great taste and style. A question, did the owner cover the costs of the renovation by adding it to your yearly lease repayment, just a great job done, what a beautiful villa. I really enjoy your channel.

@@retiredlifeinBali You mean the construction workers you paid by yourself, and you didn’t need any permission from the owner? Sorry if my questions seems dumb, but these whole rental / renovations - construction is so different from German laws.
@@ClaudiaS193 You take a long lease sometimes 10 years but often 20 years and you need to pay the rental of all those years up front. It works out very cheap rent but the downfall is you pay a huge amount of money upfront. You get nothing at the end of it, you walk away leaving all those renovations to the owner. Some people pay 250 thousand dollars upfront, which is something I would never do. In Thailand and Vietnam you can rent by the month cheaply. This should be the same for Villas in Bali.

Beautiful home. Having to do renovations on a lease seems very unfair. For over 600 a month, that's a lot, for a country that's supposed to be cheaper living. Especially if the government can change the rules at any time. So you lose money in the long run. I've seen a few videos like this in Bali, where people are paying for renovations. Perhaps you could do another video elaborating on that. How good the tradesmen are etc in comparison to other countries.
Hello Robert, it's best to consult with a visa agent to understand all the different visas (there so many types). Not sure if you've seen my other video 'how to retire in bali' yet but gives some ideas on how to find a good visa agent.
Are you worried that the land owner will not renew your lease after 10 years? I am considering a lease hold in Thailand for 30 years. I want to put roots down but don’t want to worry that I lose my home.
@ that’s a good perspective to have. I am seriously thinking of renting my home and doing a leasehold in Hua Hin. I have a 3 bedroom worth 1.4 mil if i sold it i could buy 3 homes abroad. I want to keep it because its a gold mine in terms of appreciation. I could get the rent to cover the mortgage and all that money i save i could live in a massive villa in Thailand and travel frequently. Probably be a lot less stressed and happier. At the end of the 30 years my home would be paid off and i can retire back here or i might choose to retire in Asia not sure.
@@ODaughterofZionMinistries You are so right...that's the way to think. It's all about getting creative with what you have to live your best life. Swapping this for that, expanding your capacity, you only live once. :)
@@retiredlifeinBali i am pretty miserable here the government has banned social media for under 16s so they will require all of us to prove we are adults which means logging in with a government id or facial recognition it’s all becoming totalitarian and scary. I’m getting in touch with an accountant early next year to start figuring out how i can do this.

Ciao, grazie, un giorno farò un video della casa di mamma. La realizzazione di questi video richiede molto tempo e abbiamo molti altri video da realizzare prima. Grazie per la tua idea ;)

Healthcare could always be better. They just opened a big hospital in Sanur. There are many types of health care options, but the price will determine your age and health history.
While enjoying your video. I had to stop to tell you this. I am from Mauritius we use propane for cooking like you do. Please know the gas tank inside the house is a big nono. I know of people with which it has exploded. Put it outside its much much safer.
Yes , our Australian friend lived and built the house in the 80’s leased the land , and when they decided to moved back home to Australia, he sold the house to other friends and continued the land lease from the local, otherwise the building belongs to the land owner when the lease is over!
Hi Debbie, I just watched your video which I found by accident. So your mom enjoys Bali and I hope she stays healthy. My wife and I are planning to move there and we have visited a visa agency last month in Jakarta. The agent recommended the silver hair program, designed for people over 60 and it is a 5 year visa, so different than the D12 you are on. If you don't mind, I have some questions and would like to call you using whatsapp. Let me know and I appreciate your time.
Hi Valentino, I prefer not to post my whatsapp here, but you can email me at zendenexperience@gmail.com. Honestly, I'm not an expert in the visas and still 55. The silver program has requirements that my Mom couldn't meet and I'm too young to qualify. The visas change so often even the agents get frustrated. Since I got my D12, it changed from 180 days to 1 year, but I still have to leave the country after 180 days to renew for the next 180 days. Makes for a very confusing program.
Debbie- that is a stunning villa . I have stayed in Seminyak for a few weeks in a self contained villa and absolutely loved it! The cost is astoundingly inexpensive compared to Australia or in fact the US and really make me ask why I live here in 🇦🇺🦘where I need $100k pa to live though owning everything I have… 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Thank you Tony for your comment. I agree, since I've moved here I'm just living my way instead of being at the mercy of having to make a certain amount of money so I can keep paying bills/mortgage. My bills here are minimal.
WOW ! Beautiful reno and decor. If, I was to do all that and not own it out right... I would defo want to die there. lol Is there a chance that the Owner can say "no" to staying after your 10yr lease runs out ?

We got locked in our state for almost 3 years in that time every day on the news were bombarded with propaganda. I never thought the west would become like this i want out. I’m getting in touch with an accountant early next year to start figuring out how i can do this.
Beautiful home, but the music is louder than your voice.
sorry about that.
❤🙏🏻👍🏻Such a beautiful home. Is it easy to get permanent residence in Bali? Do you own your own home & land?
Hi Wendy, I have a video on how to retire in Bali. It's easy to get a visa to come and stay for 6 months, a year, or 30 years. It's all about the visa. I have a video on 'how to retire in Bali' that helps with a step by step of what I did to make the move.
Villa n Room in House is very different prices
Is this area safe????
Yes. Bali is very safe.
Formal interior designer here from LA. I approve you did a great job. Coming in 2 weeks to canggu hopefully find a property …
Thank you :) Best is to find a location that hasn't been renovated and renovate it yourself. You have the experience, just replicate it here. Oh, and the shopping for decor is heaven!
Hi Deb, my husband and I live in Ubud (retired). We are wanting to renovate our kitchen and wondered if it would be possible to get the WhatsApp number for your custom kitchen guy? Looks like he did a great job.
Let me know if that would be at all possible. Beautiful home. Thank you Tracy
Sure. Send me an email and I'll respond there. zendenexperience@gmail.com
Thanks so much Deb.
Laundry?
I have a washer and dryer hidden behind the carved door near the first floor bathroom.
How about healthcare insurance ? How much per person ? I heard healthcare is bad in Indonesia.
Healthcare could always be better. They just opened a big hospital in Sanur. There are many types of health care options, but the price will determine your age and health history.
Went to the doctor the other day, cost me $10 AUD THAT INCLUDED MEDICATION
While enjoying your video. I had to stop to tell you this. I am from Mauritius we use propane for cooking like you do. Please know the gas tank inside the house is a big nono. I know of people with which it has exploded. Put it outside its much much safer.
Thank you for that information. I can't say for sure about all of Bali but most everyone I know has their tank in the house.
Would you be willing to be the interior designer for the villa I just rented??
I can't work in Bali, but thanks for the offer.
I’d love to. Where are you located?
Bali
Don’t forget to tell them…you can’t buy property in Bali 🤨 unless you marry an Indonesian you can only free hold lease
Hence why I tell people to ask the experts. I have no clue on the laws here.
Yes , our Australian friend lived and built the house in the 80’s leased the land , and when they decided to moved back home to Australia, he sold the house to other friends and continued the land lease from the local, otherwise the building belongs to the land owner when the lease is over!
Does your mother live with you?
She lives in a house next door.
Nice place. Be careful Debbie you’re starting to build up stuff that you had to sell up in the US😮.just joking😊
You are absolutely right! I stopped buying stuff after the house was finished. :)
@@retiredlifeinBali Hi Many thanks. I just read your reply. Sure I will drop you an email today.
I would defo want to die there. lol
Is there a chance that the Owner can say "no" to staying after your 10yr lease runs out ?
Yes the owner can say no for me staying here. In hindsight, I wish I leased 20 years.
