Phyllis was born in Philadelphia and moved back in her adult years. She’s from Pennsylvania all the way.

@@eigna8914 I feel so sad about her death & I wasn’t born in this age. It goes to show how you never know what someone is really going through. I miss her she was my favorite vocalist.
She suffered from Bipolar Depression and she stopped taking her medication because she didn’t like the way it made her feel. I have a family member who suffers from the same disorder. It’s very difficult to deal with both for the person who has it and other family members and friends. Its heartbreaking. Miss her so much, so beautiful and so talented.
Same...if you don't know when to "switch the channel", you could end up hurt..physically. My Aunt has the condition. It was hidden for years due to alcohol and prescriptions..now, the "cat is out the bag" without them. I still play Phyllis and really wish she could've found what her heart desired here on earth. May she rest in paradise..in heaven. 🙏😷

Although I never knew or know anyone who suffers from it, I FEEL AND UNDERSTAND YOU 1000%. TWENTY-SIX YEARS LATER I still adore and miss Phyllis to the core of my soul. Forget about in a million OR billion, she was one in a TRILLION. Foreverrrrrrrrrr blessings on her gorgeous heart, soul and memory!!!

I hate shoulder pads and I hate that people bought them back in style for a little while in recent years lol, but BAYBEE, when I say NOBODY could wear some shoulder pads and make them look like Phyllis made them look. She was always so regal and graceful. Anyone else would look gaudy and overdone with the shoulder pads, statement jewelry, and hat, but she just...
She was the prime example of wearing a fit and not letting it wear you. That's pure style and you either have or you don't.
Yws a.she did she was a big woman and I mean in her physical & stature in her persona. She was so personble and a bit over the top in an embracing way, as you can see here.

Right! Shoulder pads and all that stuff always looked so ugly but for some reason I’m befuddled at how she managed to look extremely gorgeous in this style. Majority of women can’t pull this look off. I think it has something to do with height, like only models (which she looked like one) could do this

Actually Patti LaBelle sister Jackie that passed away of cancer was very good friend with Phyllis back-in-the-day and that's how her and Patty became good friends to Patti sister Patti's sister used to work in the business also.

RIHeaven Phyllis Hyman. I saw her in concert with the Whispers in the summer of 83" she blow me away. Her beautiful was unreal. And her voice and stage presence was so unreal! I've been too many many concerts. Through out the years, that blow me away but WOW! I can't find the words to describe my experience.RIHeaven Angel!

I remeber the time when you were hangin out at Sweetwaters and you were havin such a good old time and dreessed to thr 9s as usual. I was so excited to see you sitting at the table and just being happy. Every Wednesday Sweetwaters had a showcase of semi and well established singers, a no pretentious place where sometimes you might find Miss Patti or Will Downing or Toni Braxton among others from the industry hangig then some (most the) times steppin up to the mic and SANG. Got to photograph Phyllis one night at the Blue Note through an agency l was working with. Its a TINY place in the Village so it was very personable. Her voice was mesmerizing. Phyllis talked and ki kied w/the audience b/w numbers of her two sets and at one point because she didn't have time to eat before, she walked her way over to Some man and talked with him and asked him if she could sample one of the buffalo wings that was just brought out to him. He obliged. Needles to say, the images were off the chain. All black & white and I'll remember that evening for ever ever.....Miss Phyllis Hyman 💕..

Beautiful but sad & so telling of how she felt. I read that she really got depressed after the death of her mom. She was physically beautiful & inside beautiful but mentally she was calling out for help before taking her own life. RIP
