    The problem of discipline in the MET is very deep rooted. The gang badge was a directive from the Commissioner himself and they still choose to ignore it. The question is why do his colleagues and supervisors allow it. This is why the deep set corruption inside the MET will never end. Just like they ignored Couzens and Carrick. And we all know what happened there.

    Again just goes to show how some officers in the met just have nothing but contempt on the directive mark rowley THEIR BOSS regarding the thin blue line patch and that it shouldn't be worn whilst on duty and in uniform, makes you wonder do they have the same contempt not only to their rules regulation but also to the law of the land and the public

    It seems that they can search outer clothing but if the member of the public requests an officer of another gender and they don't provide same, ask them to mention it on the stop and search. Generally it looks like most forces say that it is more appropriate to provide a female for female search

  • @captivesteelnz
    @captivesteelnz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Good on you Yardley. I agree with you wholeheartedly. These clowns in uniform are so quick to spout "in this day and age" "with all the heightened threat" when it suits them yet so slow to realise it works both ways. In this day and age, it is 100% inappropriate for two male cops to be searching a female - regardless of what she's alleged to have done. If that was done to my daughter/granddaughter those cops heads would roll. The first thing I'd do is get their body-worn footage and, as you pointed out, see what they DIDN'T do while conducting the search. Did they learn nothing from Wayne Couzens, Adam Provan and the like?
    And the saddest thing about the whole incident is seeing the next generation of young women watching this type of thing still happening.
    In this day and age, it's the police who are heightening the threat.

    So they leave the station to attend a job, go to job, then head straight back to the station. Why are they in the station rather than being on the streets? Shouldn't it be the other way around? The fact that the "badge" wearers are still doing it, just indicates that the attitude towards ignoring direct orders, will only continue to drag down the integrity of the met. The Sgt. not willing to do anything shows that rank is weak and/or powerless. The tail is wagging the dog.

    LEGALS
    1. Searching and searching. Empty your pockets vs aggressive pat down. Unsure what this was.
    2. Opposite gender searches are allowed in Law and Policy but only if no same sex officer is present or can be there in a “reasonable time” (typically 5-8 minutes).
    So, only potentially inappropriate if they didn’t bother to even ask for a female officer. Given they appeared understaffed and had to attend from the station, only one issue remains…
    The same issue as always with the Met, bad management.
    Q. Why not just send a male and female officer to the call …!! ?? Simple. Basic management. Plus no management of gang badges. Same story.

    Can an officer search a person of the opposite sex?
    Yes, it is legitimate for an officer of any sex to stop and search a person of any sex providing the search is in public and is restricted to a superficial examination of outer garments. An officer can also place his or her hand inside the pockets of outer clothing, and feel round the inside of collars, socks and shoes if this is reasonably necessary in the circumstances to look for the object of the search. A person’s hair may also be searched in public (subject to the restrictions on removal of headgear).
    However, every reasonable effort must be made to minimise embarrassment that a person being searched may experience. Therefore, where practicable an officer of the same sex as the person to be searched should conduct these types of searches, unless an officer of the same sex is not readily available and waiting would unnecessarily delay the length of time taken to conduct the encounter or frustrate the object of the search.
    Any search involving the removal of more than an outer coat, jacket, gloves, headgear or footwear, or any other item concealing identity, may only be made by an officer of the same sex as the person searched and may not be made in the presence of anyone of the opposite sex unless the person being searched specifically requests it.
    Where there is doubt as to the sex of a person, the person will be asked what gender they consider themselves to be. They will then be treated by officers as their elected gender.
    Note: The gender of the searching officer may cause offence to the person being searched as would insensitivity by the searching officer towards persons who have undertaken gender reassignment. Failing to respect the confidentiality of the person being searched may be an offence under the gender Recognition Act 2004.

    There is no law that prohibits male officers to search women during a stop and search where just the outer clothing e.g. coat, jacket, gloves and shoes, are being removed. It is however good practice for an officer of the same sex to be called to conduct the search and many police forces have a policy saying so. At the very least, a male officer should use the back of his hand when searching a woman as this is less intrusive (this should also be used to search sensitive parts of the body for any gender).
    If you are being searched by an officer whose gender makes you uncomfortable, ask them to call for someone more appropriate. If you are uncomfortable with where the search is taking place, ask for more privacy. If they fail to provide you with either ask them to mention this on the receipt. Stop and search is not supposed to be a humiliating experience.
    For more thorough searches, where inner clothing such as a jumper or t-shirt is removed, the police code of practice (Code A of PACE) states;
    “Any search involving the removal of more than an outer coat, jacket, gloves, headgear or footwear, or any other item concealing identity, may only be made by an officer of the same sex as the person searched and may not be made in the presence of anyone of the opposite sex unless the person being searched specifically requests it.”
    Removal of any religious items, such as a headscarf, must be treated in the same way.

    I guarantee that the search won’t be seen as illegal unless she asked for a female and there was availability. I’m guessing she didn’t have that information But we saw their attitude prior so it’s unsurprising. They switched the lights off I’m guessing because you were filming, judging by the attitude of the organisers. It’s sad we assume the police are the culprits of acting wrongly but there are so many who do act inappropriately that I think it’s a valid question. Be interesting to get the bodycam.

    An opposite sex search is not illegal, especially where there is a witness to the search Best practice dictates a female officer should be radioed if available. Officers always Activate BWV before commencing a search at arrival at the scene of DV or any domestic disturbance or at the scene of an RTA/ Road incident. Obviously opposite sex officers cannot conduct "intimate" searches in custody ,even with the benefit of Custody CCTV

    Certainly would have had a female officer if she wore a burka.

    This encounter is beyond disturbing. Two male officers can search a female with impunity and without consequences. I'm not sure how comfortable these morons would if that happened to their wifes, sisters or daughters
    Please YS if possible pursue this issue and let us know whether all this was legal we know it was immoral

    What makes a search legal or not has nothing to do with the officers/detainees gender. Only an intimate search must be conducted by the same gender.

    That was sleazy af,. trapping that young girl in the corner for quite a while and then running his hands up and down her legs, sickening...nothing will be done about it, which is why they do whatever they like.

    It can't be a very good event if the lights go out half way through and someone gets detained and searched by the police.
    Why are the police still wearing pith helmets, they were introduced in the 19th century and the army stopped wearing them in 1948. Do male police officers really need to look taller or is it just a silly hat?
    It was the ego of these police officers that stops them from actually serving the public.
