      I heard a lot of excuses like "most of the time you don't really need the extra range of a Tesla". 0 to 60 above 5 seconds never mentioning that all the Tesla do better than that - some a WHOLE LOT better, like TWICE better. At least be honest.

  • @Trades46

    Nice job by Mercedes - also 400km with 80 kWh is pretty good - beats the I-Pace and e-tron with larger batteries as well.
    I reckon this would sell strongly in Canada given how many GLC & GLE are on the roads.

    • @tlf361
      @tlf361 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it most DEFINITELY does not beat the i-Pace in range lmao. The i-Pace has 377km of EPA range, while the Merc has an EPA range of 354km. You cannot compare Mercedes's extremely generous WTLP range with the stricter/more conservative EPA range...
      And considering this is more than twice the price of the GLC, and doesn't have close to 400km of range realistically (EPA rating of 354km; real world summer range will be even shorter, and Canadian winter range will be closer to 200km), I don't think it'll sell as strongly in Canada as you'd think. For comparison, the Model 3 LR (with a 75kwh battery) has 523km of EPA range, and ALMOST 700KM of WTLP range, but it will never achieve either of these numbers unless you're hypermiling. So to think the Mercedes, which the EPA itself rated at a max of 354km of range, will achieve anything close to even 300km (especially with our climate) is extremely unrealistic.

    Range? Probably the most important feature. Also, where in the USA is the charging network with Tesla type superchargers? Absolutely essential if you want to go on a trip that is greater than ~50% of the range? IMO looks like it is an expensive around town/commuter car with probably less than a 100-mile one-way range. Don't see many of these sold without a vast supercharging network that rivals Tesla especially on the West coast where we love electric cars. Just on the block where I live, there are 6 Teslas. My neighbor routinely drives his Model S 6 hours to LA with no issues. How can you do that with this car?

    • @nasstak3440
      @nasstak3440 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      May be superficial, but Tesla’s really aren’t good looking cars. The model x is basically a mini van. As for driving 6 hours straight, most people don’t have the need for that kind of range on a regular basis.

    • @erikstephens34
      @erikstephens34 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The EQC will use the CCS charging standard. Major charging providers in the US are Electrify America, EVgo, Chargepoint and Greenlots. In Canada we have FLO (with many partners), Chargepoint, Greenlots and now Petro Canada and Electrify Canada. Our Bolt EV also uses CCS and we drove it from Ontario to Florida at the end of March with no major issues.

    Tesla fanboy or not, when you start talking about electric cars around 100k, you should and must compare it to Tesla's. This must inevitably bring into perspective, technologies such as Autopilot and OTA updates to the car. Tesla isn't just about range, size, fit and finish... Classic manufacturers and Journalists will face this fact. So here's my question : Outside of range and finish, what are Mercedes, Audi, etc. really bringing to the market (Autopilot, OTA updates, charging network, technologies...)? With respect, this review really needs and update... car reviews such as we saw back in the 90's aren't informative enough for the new generation of buyers...

    I'm thinking a lot of people are going to be buying their favorite foreign model (Jag, Audi, BMW and MB) and then regretting it down the road. Already Jag I-Pace sales have fallen off the cliff after people actually bought one and had to live with the limitations. The real take away from all of the competition is that they had an extra 5 to 8 years to come up with something better than a Tesla and all they can do is say their interior materials are better - THAT'S IT.

    Great Review, really appreciate your insights on why Norway has such a high EV adoption rate. I think in Canada EV would stay as a niche for a very long time. Not everybody could afford to wait for 40min on charging unless your lifestyle fits it. Besides we are so underdeveloped in term of EV charging infrastructure. Not all employers would offer a charging station, and people who have an EV will fight for it. I think EV like this Mercedes EQC may become a status symbol in Canada unfortunately, just like the Jaguar I-Pace or Audi eTron. And these buyers are eager to differentiate themselves from those Telsa Model S/X on the road today, just my 2 cents.

    • @erikstephens34
      @erikstephens34 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a Bolt EV owner in Ontario. I've also driven to Florida in our car. DC fast charging isn't linear (it continuously slows down above 50% state of charge). When on a road trip it's inefficient to charge to 100%. The EQC can hit 70% in about 25 mins. This works out well as 70% still gives you a bit under 3 hours of driving time. That's about the time most need between washroom breaks. And unlike a gas car where you have to watch it fuel up. In an EV you can plug in, go to the washroom, stretch your legs have a snack then unplug and be back on the road again. It's not as inconvenient as most people think.

    I know the Tesla Model S is expensive but it is by far much longer range in the neighborhood of just under 600 km or 370 mile range for 76,000 dollars. It is much faster 0-6 in 3.7 seconds has 30 ft.³ of best in class storage. Go to their website this is all stated for the long range model. Compared to the competition there is no competition! I did read somewhere where the newest model S will be able to accept a charge rate of up to 200 kW, Now that's fast charging!!

A real mess 😤😤😤
