Who’s ready for an AWESOME EV SUV drag race?!
We’ve got our hands on the all-new BMW iX, and it’s going head-to-head against some of its key all-electric rivals over the quarter-mile!
The question is, how do they stack up? Well, let’s kick off with the iX, which has the ability to put down 523hp and 765Nm of torque. Naturally, it’s pretty heavy, weighing in at 2,510kg. Alongside it we have the Tesla Model X. It’s not the most powerful edition of the X, but it can still put down 541hp and 755Nm. It’s lighter than the iX, too, at 2460kg.
Next up is the Audi e-tron S, which is the heaviest car here, tipping the scales at 2,620kg. It can still put the power down, however, being able to produce 503hp and a HUGE 970Nm! Then finally we have the Mercedes EQC. It’s the least powerful car, with the ability to put down 408hp & 760Nm. However, it’s also the lightest, at 2,420kg.
So will the Tesla's power output catapult it to victory? Or could the EQC spring a surprise? There's only one way to find out - LET'S RACE!

Well the BMW engineers know their customers. It's got all the power on the top end which is exactly what BMW drivers need while weaving between cars without signaling at 100+ mph on the freeway.
Am addicted to these Drag races by car wow and Matt is making me fall in love with BMW all over again…
For the BREAK TEST, I would love to see a video showing the rear of the cars, just to see the break lights go off, to show how close the drivers reactions were when applying the breaks. Great videos Mat and team, keep up the great work!!

It's irrelevant because they are braking when they reach the line, it doesn't have to be in the same time, just the same point. One can be 1,2, 1.000.000 second behind, still at the line is the braking start point. Hope you got it! Nice day!
The Audi has the performance that matters : quick reaction for overtaking and good brakes for slowing down quickly. It's also the better looking car in this group. But that BMW interior though. So, Audi e-tron or BMW iX? I'm torn in the valley of decision.

People, how often do we need to say this: brakes have nothing to do with brake distance on cold discs and relative low speeds. Brake friction is far higher than tire friction. Thats why ABS engages.

The EQC is already in South Africa by Mercedes-Benz Sandton but it's for display and the price range will start from R1,2 million.

So was regeneration on when doing the braking test? Does it make a difference?
The EQC did pretty well considering it is based on the GLC platform and was not meant to be an electric platform in the first place.

@@MKRM27 The BMW has its own platform for sure, i just checked on the Audi and it apparently is on a modular platform that is also used for conventional cars. But i could not find if that specific spec is also used for combustion cars.

Considering the Mercs pricetag and that it has the least power by 100 horses and also the smallest battery it did quite well rangewise and in the races
Electric cars lose most of the range while going at very high speeds... The merc was slow enough that it was a going a good 20-30 mph slower almost in all races... Thus losing less battery
@@TechSpyYt yes but there is a 15-20 kWh difference to the other cars which is 1/5 of the whole size and it definitely didn’t go that much slower

@@andreaspoellinger Except we don't know how Merc calculates their battery drain. Like for instance, iPhones stay very long at 100% yet deplete much faster later on. iPhones try to show a lower battery % when you lock your phone so you don't see it happen.
EQC is one class smaller. Competes with BMW iX3, Tesla Model Y.
I honestly want to know when the UK will get the X and S Plaid versions. Only Carwow can test as many of these cars with a fair game of racing and I like the unbiased reviews.

Audi was my first luxury car (in which I sat and did almost nothing though), but I love the dynamics of the car...smooth, functional and less maintenance cost then it's German counterparts.
Historically, Audi is the most expensive of all 3. As of one of the latest surveys and studies, Audi is 24% more expensive to maintain than Mercedes, and 10% more expensive than BMW. That's a bit of a shocker as well, because BMW is typically the cheapest of the three to maintain, but Audi has always been leagues beyond more expensive to maintain than both its competitors.

In the stats, please include the drive train, like, "One Rear motor". This was electrifying drag race.

Very exited for the iX M60. Even the normal xdrive 50 blows the performance e-tron s away. The BMW EVs are so strong to high speed! The iX M60 will be a beast 🔥

@Matt, you need to come up with a better start to the races, always someone jump the start, First the Audi then the tesla. Get a set of grid lights please. Also try the drag race after the two rolling races. this way the tires will all be equally warm.

A top drone shot at start and finish line would help to better evaluate close race results.
The stating boy does count intervals the same all the time. He should count differently, so drivers can't prepare for final signal. I guess there will be less jumps.
Also, I guess not every driver understands when to start, when boy starting put his hand down on when he finishes hands down move. It's the second difference already.
Always fun seeing racing with electric cars. I’d like to see some towing with the same range of cars. Lots of range videos. Add some trailers.
Saw a BMW IX in all black on the road a couple of days ago and unlike in the photos on the road the car looked absolutely stunning from all angles! Out of this bunch and if I was ever to spend 100k on an EV SUV it's the one I would get.

Unlike others here, I agree with you. It would be my pick. The Audi just looks like a beefy Q4. Not enough distinction between their models imho. The BMW has got the novel quirk factor (teleported back from the future) and looks much better in the flesh than I expected. But each to their own it's all totally subjective. That Mercedes has a top speed of 115mph with 408hp, the Peugeot 207 that I drive has the same top speed with 95hp.
But your Pug would be about half a mile behind when the eq400 reaches it's top speed
@@golf1diesel That's well obvious, but I've only posted that comment to illustrate the fact that EVs have embarassingly low top speeds; The Pininfarina Batista makes 2000hp, and its estimated top speed is 220mph, the same as a 740hp Lamborghini Veneno, and far less than a 30 year old McLaren F1 with less that 1/3 of the Pininfarina's power. Of course if my Peugeot had 408hp and AWD it would beat that Mercedes even in terms of acceleration, a Golf 8 R for example completes the 1/4 mile in 12.3 seconds and has a top speed of about 170mph, with 320hp.

That's basic version, 5 years old Tesla on stock brakes vs 2021 Audi S. The proper comparison would be with 2022 Model Y Performance. Yes, Model Y, because X is bigger 7 seater.

It is literally the old and non performance model so it is pretty handicapped compared to these, as the Plaid would likely be unfair with how fast it is, and you cant buy one in the uk :(
They’re using like 5 year old used brakes vs. brand new 2021/2022 brakes on the Audi lol. How is this even a fair comparison? Let try 5-6 year old used audi brakes vs new Tesla ones and see the difference.
as a driver of an iX 50 I can tell you it's a total pleasure to drive. from the suspensions to the 4 wheels steering. pity for the voice control. understands only Burmese.

The inside of that iX is reason enough to go for it. I've sat in it and it's just such a heavenly place to be. The others are to be polite "classic" interiors.

@@jacobpeters2007 That is true, however the one used in this video is not the new one. But even compared to the new Model X, I still think the iX interior is easily the nicest. Though I admit the infotainment in the Tesla is far better if we disregard the Apple carplay/Android Auto integration. And BMW are IDIOTS for not implementing sentry mode.

It’s not that faster regen breaking is always better either. You don’t want to get jolted as the driver constantly.

Actually only the Audi S is defined officially by the manufacturer in the performance segment.
iX 50 is a normal BMW, the iXm60 is in the M performance segment, no M power currently.

Based on the weight it is probably the 100D X, the fastest non performance version. And He also explained in the video UK doesn’t have the latest facelift specifically to you butt hurt Tesla fanboys. Learn to pay attention.

But talking about EV, what is that feature that make the BMW so faster than the others? I Can understand that the huge torque of Audi help it to built some difference, but how is it possible the similar powered BMW to overpass it after a while? Is the less 100kg that helps it so much to beat against the extra 400Nm of torque that Audi has?
