    I've seen a few of those condensing units around and have wondered who makes (or made) them.

    It’s good to install a timer and power booster on your AC,for long working life.

    Most of the time:
    4 contacts = common
    3 contacts = compressor
    Least contacts = fan
    Also, check wiring diagram

      I would not trust such a general description. The wiring diagram is a good one.

      grayfurnaceman 95% of caps will follow this. Some will have two terminals with 4.. you’re right.

    Hi
    I've seen many of your excellent videos!
    Do you know if you can install the supco spp6 or similar on a 1/2 hp centrifugal well pump.
    I see no capacitor on my motor. So different wiring for sure. Some guys say you can wire the hard start in series on either side of the line.
    Any tips appreciated.

    Hi, the start winding drops out after compressor starts when a hard start kit is used. But, without a hard start kit does the start winding still drops out when using only the dual run capacitor? Thanks

    Any pros of having a fan on the side of a unit? First that comes to my mind is noise directioning.

      Mostly, it is just a clearance issue.

    Does the super boost stay in he circuit or does it have an internal PTC thermistor to switch it out ??

    • @grayfurnaceman
      @grayfurnaceman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The thermistor drops it out.

    Is this booster just to help in starting the unit? How does one know if it's needed?

    • @grayfurnaceman
      @grayfurnaceman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The use of boosters on A/C units that do not come with one is a bit controversial. The manufacturers do not provide them as they say they are not needed.
      My opinion is they are helpful for worn out compressors that have problems starting. Mostly as a fix to get a little longer use of the unit.
      Installing them on properly operating compressors is probably not useful.

    I had my duel line capacitor replaced, it had a booster, technician didn’t install the booster , said it wasn’t needed because I replaced the capacitor, is that ok?

    • @grayfurnaceman
      @grayfurnaceman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally, it is not needed, especially if you have a scroll compressor.

    I have an emergency if you can help in anyway. I need a circuit board for an Armstrong oil pack unit. I also did a post on HVAC Talk. I would really appreciate any help. I know the part is obsolete but I’m hoping something will work

      It appears to be a fan board. There are some general replacement fan control boards. White Rodgers 50F06-843, Universal Furnace Electronic Fan Timer may work.

      there should be a number on the circuit board itself like "R40403-001" or maybe like "20054502"
      search for it like "armstrong R40403-001" without the quotation marks. you'll likely find something that crosses over/aftermarket
