I bought one of these 15 years ago as an emergency backup and never needed it until now; thanksgiving week 2023. The refrigerator / freezer had already gone too warm before I noticed. I have the 5 wire version. It was quite simple to install.
At the compressor the factory starter and capacitor is attached to the side of the compressor. There is a small bent metal wire that wraps around both pieces; it just unhooks from the side you are on. It's meant to hold the capacitor and starter in place.
The two come off easily, you can probably pull it off by hand but I used a flat blade screwdriver to start prying it off.
Looking at the supco it has 3 blade female blade receivers on it. I was expecting the comproessor to have blades on it. The compressor actually has small round prongs. When I looked at the Supco terminals I realived they are shaped to accept either blade or the prongs. The directions for which wire goes to which prong are on the side of the supco, very easy to understand.
The other two wires did not have terminals on them and the instructions said to hook one to either supply line and the other one ges to the other supply line. What this means is the connector coming from the refrigerator plugs into the capacitor normally but in this case you have to cut the connector, strip the two wires (you can do it) and then twist one to each of the wires on the supco. You then need to put small wire nuts on each of the two wires but you could get by with electrical tape in pinch. The supco probably came with wire nuts originally but it was already out of the package and they were lost.
Tuck the supco in next to the compressor, plug in the refrigerator and it started right up.
My existing, original from 10 years ago starter was blackened and charred. A new set will not arrive for two days.
I then searched for supco start capacitor just because and saw this video and figured I would offer my tale of a quite easy repair.

Unfortunately, he didn’t show where should to connect compressor. Why I need to connect the Booster without compressor. Is it works without compressor? Where is compressor?
How to connect the compressor to the booster if it have the two wires only ?….
I wasted my time here ….

Great vid. Does the existing run capacitor need to be good in order to use this SPP6? Can I use this if there's no run cap in the system?

Can you install the boost capacitor if you only have a two terminal capacitor, like the one in the video, but the fan and the compressor are on the OEM capacitor?

@@yuriigorg721 You might be confusing this for the Supco 5-2-1 kit where there is a connection at the compressor itself and the 2 power wires feeding the compressor. I have a video on that too

Greetings JMT. A subscriber here. I have a True reach in freezer where the compressor is drawing high amps and so it won’t start. It’s a single phase 240volt. I have checked all the starting components; potential relay, run capacitor, and start capacitor and they all are good. I also have checked the compressor windings and they also checked out. And the compressor is definitely not shortened to ground. Do you think I should install this compressor booster in line with the run capacitor to see if it solves the issue before I go replacing the compressor which is over a thousand dollars? Thanks a lot in advance for your reply. And please keep posting more videos. I’m learning a lot watching them.

Does this reduce the lifespan of a compressor in your opinion? I mean if the compressor is “having a hard time starting” it’s probably on its last legs??

Very informative. Came here searching for information on this product because a tech installed it on our AC unit, then tried to upsell us on an EAC and APCO unit.
When we declined he charged us $500 for installation of the SPP6. Amazon shows it for pretty cheap too. Can the cost be attributed to service charge and/or labor?
    Thanks for any input.

I ordered this, but it seems it’s the wrong item? This only has two wires. My capacitor has three prongs for the following wires: common, herm, and fan. Looks like I wasted my money, and I’m still roasting hot. 😢

    • @NO-END
      @NO-END 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

the wire with the additional spade goes to common or "C" and the other goes to "HERM". Make sure discharge the dual run capacitor by using an insulated screwdriver and touch c to herm and c to fan making sure you hold onto insulated part of screwdriver.

Will Installing this reduced or cause any damage to the life of the compressor? My unit starts up every time although I do hear a loud noise when it kicks on. But after that it works great. We're in 2024 and the unit manufacturing date is 2006. Just want to make sure this product will not harm my unit as I love how it cools my home in Florida.

Pay a little more money for the 5-2-1 kit. 2 wire hard starts will usually fail within the warranty period and you will be going back to do a free service call. 5-2-1 kits are much better and have a lower fail rate.

yes it does have one but 3 in 1 has potential relay which operates better by protecting the compressor better.
