  • The Beartooth Plateau offers some amazing alpine hikes. The Beartooth High Lakes Trail is just that. Just outside of Yellowstone National Park’s northeast entrance lies Cooke City and the Beartooth Plateau. Leave the crowds of Yellowstone and enjoy the solitude of the Beartooth Highway. The Beartooth Mountains rival the best hiking that Yellowstone has to offer. The Beartooth High Lakes Trail is tops in the area and rarely are hikers rewarded with nonstop views with so little effort. From the beginning of this trail at the foot of Island Lake stunning vistas stretch north across its crystal blue water to Lonesome Mountain, Castle Rock Mountain, Castle Mountain and Sky Pilot Mountain to the north. This hike offers a nice sampling of the Beartooth Mountains visual delights. For a quick hike to a beautiful mountain lake that’s near Cooke City, there’s no better place than Becker Lake. The hike to Becker Lake is a perfect hike for kids and older adults.

OMG this is so ridiculous! Just the drive was awe inspiring. Good job getting the family across the water and I'm sure it was freezing cold. Pretty confident that would have been a "hard pass" for two of this CTW fam. Haha...that interview and the dejection of that "old man"...classic. But seriously such a cool hike with the snow and that drone footage...so good. I feel like the fam was featured mored in this one. Great stuff.

YOU CAN EASILY WALK UP THE LAKES, AT THE PASS, AT THE SWITCHBACKS, OR Scramble up the ridge it goes all the way out to Spirit. The gigantic ditch on the other side is the river/creek out of Red Lodge, go high or go home.

If in the meadows/woods in the bowl under the fire tower, you will see a bear. And they ain't park bears. Out of Cooke City East are access roads to the Tooth on that side. Go to the Pass or Fire Tower, pass for high stuff. ALSO, THE BEST DAY OF OUR LIVES FOR A PEAK WAS BARRONETTE PEAK IN JULY. And we have been up hundreds. Ice Box Canyon follow the ridge all the way up.

This is an Easy one. Drive up to Pass Switchbacks. Park in the big parking lot on them, walk out to Spirit Mountain on the ridge, coming back drop down to lakes walk back easy. FOr the bear Maul Woods go to the Fire Tower walk down and into them, there are trails. First, go to the top and walk out to the high peak, not the fire tower. Then back down to car and enter woods of bear death.
