this is cool to see... always snowmobile up to there, and straight down the slope onto the lake. Definitely some work to get there by sled... side hilling and riding over the guard rails
You didn't just see your mountain goats, you got killer footage of them. I'm always just in awe when I'm shooting something and know it's awesome at the time I'm shooting it. Great capture. Also, the coffee snob in me was thinking "Ew, Keurig...." but then the camera snob in me got distracted by the bokeh....And your wife is right. Who drives around in a car with an open mug? What is wrong with you?
@@TheMountainMatt that is true! was looking at doing Custer SP again, but if some place new is only a couple more hours....just picked up a new offroad camper last year and haven't gotten too much long distance travel with it yet...might be good for a maiden voyage, eh?
Going to the tooth this August. See you already know go to switchbacks park at the bottom where they begin and there is a lake, dozens, but one by the road go out along its north edge and keep going. Bam. You can go to Gannett if you want. Most go from the Cooke City side for that one. Man, there is a great video of two guys crossing the Absorokas South North on here. Epic open terrain scenery. The Beartooth has more berries than anywhere else in the world they say. Hence the bears. How do I know a lot of this stuff worked at Teton Yellowstone Yosemite Rocky Mountain and BLM AZ Strip. Canaveral Seashore too. People make fun of me but I have not met many that have been to as many areas and areas they work in like Zion or GCNP they are often like where is that? Takes years and years to do one big area. Have not been to Glacier or walked about Olympic, do not like it or the area, some love it. My pals worked there as mule guys. Maui too. Sierra is my deal but Absorokas kill them. WY MT. Like WA though the weather is atrocious most of the time. WInters. I like Sierra Snow. Hitting Rainier hard this year. I don't go up Volcanos. For peaks, I go to Shepherd Pass CA. Langley is good Cottonwood Lakes parking is at 10800. To New Army Pass is easy. White Mountain is easy 14252 feet, but 14 miles round trip. You park at 12800, walk up the road, dirt rutted, rocks. Once you do the Sierras in Good weather and not dried out on fire you will be hooked. I would start at Mammoth Lakes. You can drive into Yosemite from there easily. Park past the entrance and walk right up 13000 Mount Dana. Or for scenery Tenaya Peak. Anyway, watch livehardlovehard for SOCAL. Not me.
You can camp where he is at. 30 degrees or less up there though. Lows in August at Cooke are 39. So up here it is cold. The way I do it is Army Poncho and liner. I also wear down pants and shirt. Polypad. No tent. Tent is good. Mucho warmer. On road side I use moving blankets and a fold out coleman cot. Moving blankets are 80x72 good down to 28 easy with some poly blankets. MT WY has bears, I have two dogs up here, you can take them on leash. If a dog sees a griz it runs right back to you with the griz behind it.
Brother you’re score-boarding my morning with that hike 🤩. These flatlands of Texas suburban life is nice and all...pretty awesome that you did that hike the day after y’all did that 15 miler. Woof. Our family has to figure out a way to do more of these backcountry hikes. Loving that you got those goats. And that Frodo/Sam dialogue came to you pretty easily 🤔
The goats are always there at the pass can’t see them from the parking lot, but a short walk to the edge and never fails to see goats. I only see a few.
That is some amazing views Matt. Just out of curiosity, do you carry a GPS Tracking Device? I have a friend who says they carry an actual compass as well as GPS. Thanks for sharing Matt and stay safe. LIKE 25. 👍👍👍👍👍
I do a ton of research before each hike we do. I love AllTrails app as well, I download a trail to my phone just in case. I’m also a big map guy, I kinda collect maps of the areas we go to. Thanks!
Dude what an amazing lake!! You had some killer drone shots on this one. Makes me want to go back out west so badly! Great vid! Hope you and your family are doing well!
Barronette is a long day but doable. Electric is a haul up and down over 22 miles. Yellowstone. Quadrant Mountain is a better day out. BUnsen is easy and spectacular. Thunderer is not a bad hike but why if Barronette is there? Beartooth 101 stop where he parked go west on ridge. Bam. GO WEST RIDGE OR LAKES BELOW. In Yellowstone you Northeast is where it is at. Including North Rim Upper and Lower Falls, walk the trail between them. DO not go to Artist Point stick to North Rim hit all the points then walk two miles downstream on the trail going along the river. Takes all day. Washburn take the east turn out the ridge go out to the end and back. Electric is a day two better but bears out there too.
What an incredible find, Matt. My friend and I hiked The Beaten Path in 2017 ( th-cam.com/video/N9YotTASn00/w-d-xo.html ). It was my favorite hike ever because the scenery was unlike anything else I have ever encountered! My wife and I met my friend and his wife in Red Lodge. We rented a house to use as our base for the five days we were there. On the morning of our departure, our wives shuttled us to the trailhead in Cooke City. We then hiked north to the trailhead at East Rosebud Lake. We had to drive the Beartooth Pass in order to get from Red Lodge to Cooke City. Your video brought back some of the great memories I have of that trip. And I swear we probably saw mountain goats at the same location you saw them. If you watch the intro to my video you get a glimpse of the goats we saw, probably in the same location you saw them. Another great video! Thanks for sharing it.
What a great area right! I’ve heard great things of The Beaten Path👍🏼 When our girls are ready for backpacking we plan on going back out there for sure. I love reminiscing 😁. Those goats were right by that ski lift up there... does that ring a bell?
@@TheMountainMatt We didn't see the goats near a ski lift. We saw them at the highest point on the Beartooth Highway. There was a small pull-off area at the top before the Highway descended toward Cooke City. Regardless of whether we saw them in the same location or not, it was still an exciting moment, for sure! 😀👍
O crap I hope it doesn’t come off like that 😬. She’s the only reason I get to see and do all these awesome things😁👍🏼. Emily fully supports and most often comes with me on adventures, although sometimes she prefers to rest or not partake in the sufferfest 😂. She’s a tough little lady and loves this stuff almost as much as me 😉
This channel is such a gem.
Thanks man! So glad to share these with like minded people😁👍🏼.
Beautiful drone shots Gardner Lake is Awesome thank you well done
It’s hard to make that area look bad😉... have you been to Montana?
Cook city is definitely a great place to be...but wow the places you see! So serene. Being out east now I miss those mountains!
I have no doubt you’ll be out there with your little ones before you know it👍🏼😁

I definitely got lucky with those mountain goats😁 somehow its always worth the effort of getting up early once you get out👍🏻
