@desiderata333, I miss her too. It's hard watching some movies and listening to artist who have passed away and were on the cusp of greatness. Brittany, Aaliyah, Heath and so many others should be here. I agree with you 100% Brittany was a gifted artist. Thank you again for another awesome comment and thank you for your support.
I always thought Brittany was the most impactful character in that movie. She was heartbreakingly terrifying. She was so underrated during her time and I think that now that she's been gone for 15 years, people are starting to reflect on her talent and genius. That same woman was Luanne Platter on King of the Hill!
@zoilalulu3798 you took the words right out of my mouth when you said "the most impactful" Brittany was the type of actor if she wanted could be a great lead, a great character actress, voice actress or supporting character. It did not matter her impact was felt. There are actors today who would kill to be as memorable as her. I'm proud to be a fan and I hope wherever she is, she is in a better place. Thank you for your beautiful comment. Have a good one!
I’ve always liked Brittany as an actress and she played the hell out of the character. When Suzanne (Winona Ryder) finds Daisy in the bathroom the next morning, it broke my heart and I pretty much sobbed during that scene.
“What they don’t know is that you like it” ….as someone who had struggled heavily with my abuse because it teetered so closely on the line between love and agony….I remember looking at Brittany’s face and breaking down. She looked as turmoiled and shameful as I felt…it was one of the most palpable performances I’ve ever seen.
@briar5, I'm sorry you went through what you went through and I want to thank you for your strength, and for sharing something so hurtful and personal. Brittany had full access to all of her emotions not many actors or people can tap in the way she did. Hell as a guy it's hard for me to even now. (I'm trying everyday tho.) Brittany could be as calm as a breeze or as powerful as a hurricane. I'm honored to be a fan, I hope wherever she is she is happy and safe. Thank you so much for your comment and support. Have a wonderful day!
@@yikesreviewsthank you so much for your kind words, it is still something I am actively overcoming within myself till this day. I’m deeply appreciative to you for sharing your perspective on Brittany’s performance. Her role was truly a formative one that I cherish as a stepping stone within my own recovery.
Brittany’s role and acting in this film is seriously underrated. And Winona Ryder also did amazingly in the lead. I don’t think it is fair for Jolie to have gotten all the attention. This should have been more perceived as an ensemble cast, beyond Winona as the lead, if anything.
@DD-nt8uj. I agree with you this film should have been perceived as an ensemble cast and to some extent it was. From a marketing standpoint it appears that this film was promoted as not only awards bait but a chance to elevate Winona Ryder or the new up and comer Angelina Jolie. I also heard or read something from Elisabeth Moss who played Polly "Torch" Clark that the cast was split into two camps. "The Winona Ryder Camp and the Angelina Jolie Camp" off set. So there seems to be some intention on pitting these two against one another for artistic and marketing purposes. Long story short every single cast member besides Jared Leto (just kidding) did a great job in the film. However for me Brittany outshines them all for so brief of a time she was on screen. Her passing might have colored my perception to feel this way but I don't think so. Sorry for the long response your comment was very intriguing to me. Thank you for your support and have a good one.
Winona Ryder was admirable in that although she played the lead and was also one of the movie's producers, she seemed to want to provide a vehicle for other young, female co-stars to shine. Usually the lead keeps most of the glory for themselves, whereas Ryder played Susanna in a way that did not overshadow other memorable characters. That was why Lisa and Daisy's characters were also able to stand out so much. If Lisa was the movie's heartbeat and adrenaline, Daisy was its dark, sad soul. It could not have been done with actresses less accomplished than Jolie and Murphy. As you say, the latter's microexpressions and the way she gets under the character's skin, have made this secondary character as immortal as many leads. Indeed, Brittany deserved a major award in her lifetime and I wish she was remembered more by the film industry.
@danielaf1487, thank you so much for your call out regarding Winona Ryder. I had no idea about her drive to place the next generation of actresses out front on stage. I should have know this about Winona. She is a consummate professional and an outstanding actress. Upon learning this information it makes her character to me a bit more endearing. Knowing her ultimate goal. I can look at this film again with new eyes. Although I will always stand by Brittany ten toes down. I can't help it. Thanks again and have a wonderful day!
@@yikesreviews - Yes, Ryder was also clearly SO happy for Angelina when she won the Oscar, you can see it for yourself if you look up the video of Jolie picking up the award. I do agree with you regarding Murphy deserving the award just as much, if not more. I guess when it came to the nominations, though, Daisy did not have as many lines or screen time. I hope you have a wonderful day, too!
Ryder's role, and personality disorder is also written to be less attention grabbing, since she was so uncertain of herself or even if she actually had a mental illness. She at one point idolizes Angela's character and all the charisma and life she claims she has, and in contrast Murphy's character is just keeping her head down trying to survive an impossible situation, having her abuser be her caretaker....she WANTS to get better and seems stuck up because she obviously is sad/mad for legit reasons and sees all them glorifying their mental disorders, meanwhile there is ultimately no escaping hers, even if she can fix her laxative disorder (that's what it was right?), the core root to it is still there driving her to her coping mechanism no matter how much 'will power' she exhibits (and her enabling dad 🙄).... The two characters show the problems with both accepting there is nothing you can do about your problems/mental illnesses and glorifying them believing they make you who you are and unique. The characters hate each other for many reasons but I think ultimately because they are ying and yang in basically every way. But yes, both performances were super creepy and stood out because they were intended to, and Murphy's performance/script was absolutely chilling. I watched it when it came out when I was 13, and it really made an impact on me. Murphy's performance made me just want to cry even though I didn't know exactly what was going on back then, and watching it as and adult, guy wrenching. I have literally only watched the movie about three times, and I remember so much of it. A great movie for anyone struggling with mental health....so long as they are aware of the context of the movie ahead of time. I was shell shocked as a fresh teen.... that's for sure.
@Frenchbootleg, As a man who has grown up with a lot of strong women I have been raised to recognize when I'm being hurtful and when I'm being weak. I'm not great at it but I get better at recognizing it everyday. This might sound very Pollyannaish but I wish the world could recognize and respect when a person is suffering regardless of race and gender. Thank you so much for your beautiful comment. I respect and appreciate you for taking the time to write it. Have a wonderful day!
@@yikesreviewsI was going to subscribe anyway as I liked your perspective on Brittany as an actor, but you seem like a nice person too, haha, you too have a wonderful day :) !
Brittany’s acting always felt so real, in this movie the characters felt realistic but there was something about Daisy that felt realistically terrifying. She was hugely talented
@jo7433, That is the beautiful brilliance of Brittany Murphy. She could access that rawness, sorrow, and terror so well. I assume she was an empath and I would also assume that accessing those deep feelings takes some type of toll on you. I know that Heath Ledger was very similar after playing the Joker. It was too much of a role for him and he gave everything he had and it shows. Talent, genius, empathy is a gift and a curse sometimes. Thank you very much for your insightful comment. Have a good one.
I remember being forced to watch this film at a sleepover in 8th grade, not knowing anything about it beforehand, and it broke me. Daisy, and especially her death, is pretty much the only thing that I remember about it.
@CravenWolf1986 yeah this film has many moments but like you mention, this is the only scene that sticks with me long after the credits roll. Thank you for sharing your insights and have a good one.
I cannot listen to that Skeeter Davis song without thinking of this scene. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever witnessed and it still haunts me to this day. She was such a tremendous talent
@saraivy I don't know what it is about certain songs. I feel the same way about "Hotel California" by the Eagles. Everytime I hear that song its at night either when I'm driving or at home. Its creepy. Anyhoo, thank you so much for your comment. Brittany was a one in a million talent and there will never be another. I never knew Brittany personally but I miss her all the same. Have a good one.
We hadn't seen that many character's like Jolie's in cinema for women in the 90s so I imagine that's why she won. However, we are more used to that now and we also are more knowledgeable on SA that we can feel and see the amazing acting that Brittany Murphy did in this movie. Even in the book Jolie's character wasn't as pronounced. Brittany's character is the only one I always want to know more about.
@RandomSubjects, thank you for adding your insights regarding the significant distinction between Lisa Rowe portrayed on screen versus the book. The subject matter and themes of the film are not easy to discuss and I respect the cast and crew for making this film possible. There are so many nuances to everyone's performances in the film. I just get goosebumps every time I see Brittany's portrayal of Daisy. Her last scene in the film even to this day terrifies me. Thanks again for your feedback and have a good one.
@angelcitystudio Thank you for your insightful comment. I almost forgot Angelina was the daughter of a Hollywood legend and all. Her role was more showy and that is why Murphy stands out so brightly compared to Jolie to me. She had to work with far less and capitalized on every single second she was on screen. Have a awesome weekend and thanks for the support!
the evil type roles tend to be easier and funner in fact but brittany's role was vulnernable... lisa seemed one dimensional...reminded me of my brother a lot... i just know in the book, the real daisy turned her stuffed animals to face them away when she was being SA...cuz she was a child and her stuffed animals were her friends and she was ashamed..that broke my heart.
Truest comment here. Same goes concerning Jolie in gone in 60 seconds. Jolie's only 2 to 3 dimensional role was GIA. But, Jolie could always fit an addict. .... Juliette Lewis could've easily played Lisa in this movie just as well.@LeahIsHereNow
I have not seen that picture in at least 20 years. I mostly recall it as feeling rather cruel, pointless and unpleasant. But I certainly remember this Brittany Murphy performance. So fragile, raw and vulnerable. As you put it haunting. Easily the most memorable part for me, outshining a rather stacked cast. Also, you are spot on that she would have made a fascinating Harley Quinn. Lightly cursing at you for feeding me that notion. Never going go forget that now. As though her passing was not tragic enough already. She had already briefly shown an uncanny ability to balance a comic book tone with her small role in Sin City. Playing it almost goofy whilst overwrought and sincere. Very few performers can make that kind of thing work.
@saxonkrautz, I 100% agree with you. Almost every single actress in this movie has either gone on to write, produce, direct, or win an award. The cast was stacked, but Brittany was something else and if the director had given her more time on screen, I'm pretty sure she would have won something. Brittany was a quiet genius who had so much to show the world. Her Harley Quinn would have been legendary. Thanks again for your support. Have a good one.
@@0therM0ther.01 Ah, that makes sense, thanks for the informative update. Reminds me of On the Road. So many people told me I would love that book but it was such a meandering mess. For me Kerouac came across only slightly more insightful than the delusional entitled delinquents in his company. All with little to no acknowledgement or shame about the people they used and abused along the way. Somehow presented with a smug air of pseudo-profundity.
Most suicide is caused by feelings of homelessness caused by overwhelming situations. Its not necessarily because people feel depressed or sad. But yeah, Brittanny deserved recognition for that role. You could feel her shame and self hatred through the screen.
When she kept talking about her “chicken” when she meant, “kitchen” and then it all came clear when we realized her dad was horribly abusing her…and those foil swans with her left over chicken from when her dad would pick her up and take her out to dinner. She nailed that.❤ Her character is the only one I remember, come to think of it…I mean, I don’t remember anyone’s dialog from that movie, but I remember her saying, “chicken” when she meant to say, “kitchen,” and that was so tragic. It hit me hard.
@katherinemcintosh7247 Thank you for your comment. I remember when I was younger giggling at that choice of dialogue. Now that I'm older it hits different. There is a part of me that still smiles a little when she says the words but there is also a tinge of sadness. Great acting has the power to alter your appreciation over the years. Little things you might have missed in that initial viewing take on a new color as you get older. Have a great day!
@J.Soffer She was so beautiful inside and out and it showed in her performance, her interviews and even her music. Thank you very much for your lovely comment and support. Have a wonderful weekend!
I feel so much the same about Brittney Murphy's character in Girl Interrupted! The way she plays Daisy always makes me wish the movie focused more on her journey. Thank you for this video!
@Purrfectblu, Thank you very much for your wonderful comment. Like the character Vision said in 2015's Avengers - Age of Ultron "A thing is not beautiful because it lasts." That line is both sad and beautiful in that sometimes the best things we experience in life are so fleeting. That is what Brittany's performance was. If it had been longer I don't think the potency of this pivotal scene would hit or hurt the way it did. I could be wrong though. Thanks again for your support and have a beautiful and wonderful day!
Brittany Murphy was brilliant in this role. You can feel the depth of her pain as she tries so hard to be a perfect suburban housewife but without the husband, her dysfunctional relationship with her father, and how much her anguish bubbles to the surface with the slightest bit of honest conversation, which she is both ready and not ready for.
@lindamcmanus3057, Thank you for providing that insight. There is apart of me that feels that Daisy has been stunted in someway because of the trauma that she was subjected to. Like her entire view on being a child, being a daughter, being a wife, being a lover has been decimated and reconstructed into a never-ending nightmare. I wonder if being released from the hospital early was a death sentence for Daisy or would she have been saved if she stayed? I don't know it's eff'd up no matter how you slice it. Thank you for your comment and have a good one.
@katecoffee4744, Thank you for your wonderful comment, and for being a fan of Brittany. Eventhough she is gone Brittany is immortalized through the people who love her and her various films and music endeavors. Have a good one.
@tiabeaniesemotionalsupportdmon, you said the words right out of my mouth. "She broke my heart." Thank you so much for your beautiful comment and have a wonderful weekend!
@@yikesreviews Brittany was an astounding actor in every part I’ve ever seen her play. One of my other favorites was her character Fay Forrester in the movie, ‘Riding in Cars with Boys’. She honestly just blew every one of her parts out of the water. Have a good weekend yourself. 🙂🙃
@arkhane17, True talent, is often overlooked for more commercially pleasing fare. She picked roles that challenged convention. That challenged her creatively. I admire that in her she was always memorable and always made a scene work regardless of the actors, director or writers she worked with. Thank you so much for your comment and support. Have a good one.
I can relate to Daisy Randone. I spent most of my teenage years in psych wards and treatment facilities. I've encountered a lot of people like Lisa. I had actually never watched the movie but once I started a tik Tok account I had seen this scene over and over and it helped me to gain strength because seeing it from the point of view of watching the movie I see that Lisa is weak and Daisy was stronger than her, even though Lisa's words had such a negative effect on her Daisy had been through so much more. she was an angel, and Lisa was the devil. When I encounter Lisa's in real life all I can think about is how stupid and ignorant they are, how their lives will never be happy Daisy found happiness in a world that refused to help her and save her from her father, she will be happy in heaven while Lisa will suffer an eternity in hell.
Thank yo so much for sharing your experience and comment. I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment on Lisa. Like Susanna said in the final moments of the film, Lisa is Dead and cold. No one cares about her and for Lisa to feel alive she had to torment and destroy those who were better than her. There are a lot of beautiful and ugly souless dead people walking around who only thrive by pulling others down into there hell. Daisy was the strongest out of all of them. Thank you for your beautiful comment and have a wondeful day.
I absolutely agree, I was delighted Angelina got the award and recognition, because she ate the role for breakfast; but Britanny Murphy was such an underrated actress, I think. Not only in this impeccable performance, she was so good in everything I remember seeing her in. She was very good in comedies, so I understand why she did so many, but she would have been an absolute beast as a horror actress; this is going to sound crazy, but there's a part of the story in Clueless (I know) where she gets mad at Cher and becomes this "mean girl", it is not supposed to be scary but the potential just jumped out to me.
@nannyalberte, I think I know what scene you are talking about, is it the fireplace scene where she is burning all of this stuff and she tells Cher she likes Josh and Cher is kinda passive/aggressively telling her she is not good enough? It's been eons since I've seen Clueless. Yeah I agree with you. I always felt that Brittany would be a great scream queen or even villain. There was always another gear she could access if she wanted to and you can tell in Clueless she was holding back. Thank you for your wonderful comment it took me back a bit. Have a great day.
I love so many things about this movie but it is so dark. esp. Daisy scenes. I love Brittany Murphy and she never got the credit she deserved. One of my favorite Brittany Murphy films of all time is Uptown Girls and it's very real too, but much more uplifting than Girl, Interrupted. It's so good, trust me!
@AngelissimaASMR Thank you for your comment. The entire mood and tone of the movie shift rapidly after this scene. Also thank you for the recommendation regarding Uptown Girls. I will add it to the list. I definitely need to see more uplifting films. Have a great day!
Skeeter Davis’ song is the saddest song I’ve ever heard and I only know it because of this movie and the tragic scene. So whenever I hear it I think of Brittany in this movie. This song is so haunting and very dark.🖤
@rileygranderson6125 Same! If I hear that song I will turn it off, or cover my ears if I can't turn it off. I don't want to besmirch those who like that song. For me it's just too creepy. Thank you so much for your comment and support. Have a good one.
@@yikesreviews It never felt creepy to me but for a long time, for me it was also tied to this scene. I saw it in another movie in the context of a breakup, like it was intended I guess, and that felt just wrong because the song feels too heavy for "just" a breakup. It may seem like a paradox but I made peace with it when it became personal for me. I got a message to come to the hospital immediately because a loved one had taken an unexpected turn for the worse. I put my coffee cup down in the sink and thought, by the time I wash this cup nothing will ever be the same again. And then I thought of this song and it fit. And since then I like it again.
@@annaf3915 Thank you for your perspective on what the song means to you. I really appreciate it. There is a deep sadness to the song, the melody, and the tone of Sylvia Dee's voice. It's like they are in the process of making up their mind to stay or go. You are correct. The song is about a break-up. The mood of the song is very heavy and dark and the way the film used that specific song drove home the dread of what I already knew. Music is an incredibly powerful medium and the song is beautiful but very subliminal and eerie to me. I'm glad that you like the song. It's a very powerful song. Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend!
100% agree! Brittany's performance was chilling, and by far the most memorable for me. If you compare this performance to her other characters from other movies, (Clueless, Drop Dead Gorgeous, The Ramen Girl, just to name a few,) you can see what astounding range she had as an actor, and I don't think she ever got the credit she deserved for that. ... and yes, she was absolutely brilliant in Drop Dead Gorgeous. I LOVED the bit where she tells her awful dad that his favoured son is gay.
@fashiondolldreamer I love Drop Dead Gorgeous so much! Brittany was a powerhouse. She had so much to give and she was always an actor I loved to see in films. It was and is always a surprise to find her in certain roles she worked literally non-stop until her passing. Thank you very much for your comment and have a wonderful weekend!
@sourpatchkid394, I 100% agree with you. Daisy was my favorite too she is the reason Susanna finds the strength to wake up and challenge Lisa. All three women, Winona, Angelina and Brittany are exceptional actresses and this movie was a theatrical kumite for all of them to spar with one another. However, I'm partial to Brittany. She just had something extra, something magical. I'm going to stop now with the words but I wanted to thank you for your awesome comment and support. Have a great weekend!
@@yikesreviewsI agree, she really did have something magical. I respect all of these actresses a hell of a lot but there was something really special about her. I absolutely _LOVED_ Brittany. Her range was incredible. I first fell in love with her in clueless. My college roommate and I didn’t have cable for a year so we played clueless and the Simpson box set (up to 95 anyway lol) on repeat. Spun was an insane film and she captured every bit of that character. Great review of her portrayal in GI. Made me smile reveling in the beauty that was miss Murphy, if just for a few minutes via a YT vid (:
@masterofwit339, Yeah I finished watching Spun a few weeks ago and her role as "Tai" in Clueless was adorable. I like when she quietly sings "Rollin wit Da Homies" I miss the 90's to some degree and I miss Brittany and what she could have been. Thank you for your awesome comment and words of encouragement. Have a wonderful day!
@@yikesreviews yessss! We (my old roomie and I) used to mimic her demure “rollin wit the homies” as an answer to any random question to each other 🤣. Oh how I miss the good old days. Really enjoyed your take on her role in GI. Keep up the great work!
God I’m so happy that you love Brittany so much and didn’t forget about her! I think some people will never understand how special and captivating she was! I don’t see a single actress that’s on her level nowadays. For me personally they don’t have that magic that Brittany has/had.
@rileygranderson6125 captivating is an apt word for Brittany. Like I said in the video my favorite movie of hers is Drop Dead Gorgeous. She was a supporting character but every time she was on screen she was infectious. I giggled when she giggled. I like how she respected her brother and their talent as a Liza Minnelli impersonator. I'm going to stop gushing about Brittany or I will not stop. Thank you as always for your wonderful and insightful comments. Have a wonderful day.
you're right that that scene is uniquely disturbing; for years i couldn't stand that song because it would bring this scene bubbling back to my memory. amazing film and amazing performance!
@BBBatling The entire tone of the film shifts to a more darker tempo from this one scene. whereas before things were a semi-lighter in tone and a playful whimsy in the performances. When this scene drops that's when the masks come off especially with Lisa. and you see Daisy giving her best to maintain her "happy home" and state of being before Lisa rips it out of her. Thank you for your comment and have a wonderful day!
@ChibiAzu She was underrated and phenomenal. I agree with you 100%. I miss her too. It probably sounds stupid what I'm about to say but I don't care. Brittany might be gone in the physical but I believe as long as people like you and me remember her even if it's only through the roles and music she was apart of I believe she lives on in some form or another. Thank you so much for your beautiful comment and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
@kimmyfreak200 I really wish I did not know that but, I'm glad I did. She was filled with so much emotion and empathy I can understand that embodying Daisy Randone would have a bleeding effect on her. Thanks for the comment and have a good one.
It is so hard for me to watch any movie with Brittany Murphy in it. She was so talented. Her skin was in the game in every single role she played and voiced.
@j.elizabeth4621 Same. There are only a few movies I can watch with Brittany Murphy in it and it's really hard for me to venture out and explore her whole catalog. I really love the movies when she is happy and bubbly and I try to stay away from the darker toned ones. She did put a 110% of herself in every role and I love her for that. I wish all actors could do the same but there is only one Brittany Murphy. Thank you for your comment and have a good one.
OMG! You're so right, Brittany would have made an amazing Harley Quinn! Also, I think Daisy's death is so impactful and feels too real is because this is based on true events.
@graffic13 I'm going to be honest with you. I have stayed away from it as well as the film the "The Dead Girl". For obvious reasons. I'm feeling a little braver now though. I tell you what though. "Spun" is on Tubi and I'm going to watch it this weekend and I will tell you about it. I might just do a review. Thanks for the suggestion and thank you for your support. Have a wonderful weekend!
My fave Brittany Murphy movie has always been “don’t say a word”. I found her performance breathtaking in that movie. Although I love her in any movie I’ve seen her in. And she was definitely the most memorable in girl interrupted for me, even in the company of so many great actors who all did an amazing job. She just always grabs my attention when I watch any of her work.
@VinTeeBabe, I need to see "Don't Say a Word" Thank you for the recommendation. I just finish seeing her in Sin City as "Shellie" I wish she had more scenes but yet again I remember her vividly in the movie. Thank you for your great comment and have a wonderful day!
@MithrilMagic, Thank you very much for the recommendation and comment. Now, I'm going to read the book and think of Brittany Murphy portrayal even more! Have a wonderful weekend!
I was surprised when Angelina Jolie was nominated for this role. Even more when she won. A good performance yes, but nothing out of her range. I don't really feel like she added any extra depth to this character. Kind of by the numbers, in my opinion. Brittany Murphy, on the other hand, made a huge impact with her small amount of screen time. She deserved a nomination. Even a win. This is yet another Oscar failure in my mind.
Brittany Murphy was such an incredible and underrated talent. She had the look that booked her in rom com's as the big eyed bubbly girl but her best roles were those characters that were complicated and sad. The range on her was so great. I was really sad when she died...taken far too soon.
@xmayberry, There was a mystique to Brittany, where people thought they knew her and then she pops up in Girl Interrupted and people are blown away. She never wanted to be type-casted or pigeonholed and every single role she portrayed was so rich, memorable and layered. She often made a mediocre film better because she was in it. I can see the comparisons to a Marilyn Monroe. They were both brilliant women and had a alluring quality. I'm going to stop now! Thank you very much for your excellent comment and have a wonderful day!
Such an insightful and touching take. The emotional impact on you is palpable, something sorely missing from many bigger film review channels. Also, never thought of it before but you couldn't be more right about her playing Harley... and I don't say that lightly. Instant subscribe. Keep it up, man.
@potatopirate5557, Thank you very much for your awesome words of encouragement. Awesome profile pic by the way. I love SeaLab 2021! Brittany did affect me. Yeah Brittany Murphy's performance was amazing here and just haunting. I remember Deadline was also that for me too. It took an emotional toll on me but her performance was so raw there like in this movie.
@mayaalieva938 Thank you very much for your comment and film recommendation. If her performance is as raw as it was in Girl Interrupted, I'm going to be severely and emotionally compromised. Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend!
Completely agree with you. This movie and the book were both formative for me when in was a teen. And I agree that she was such an underrated actor. Such a tragic loss.
@Airbubblepodcast, I admire your passion and I really appreciate your comment. If you hate Angelina's character than that proves she did her job exceedingly well. I think that is why this movie resonates with so many of us. There are monsters and broken people just trying to maintain out here. Girl Interrupted hits on so many levels and it's still resonates and is relevant to this day. This is a testament to Susanna Kaysen's writing, and the beautiful direction and talent in the film. Thank you so much for your comment and have a wonderful day!
I am soo glad you mentioned Drop Dead Gorgeous! So underrated, a gem of a film, and even though there are so many great things about the movie, Brittany Murphy is my favorite part about it 💛
@dontmakeabigdealoutofit, I still quote lines from the movie to this day. Her giggle and how she has these brief seconds of intense joy. I love the part where she tell her father that her brother is Gay and he does not know what to say. Thank you for this comment. I love that movie so much. Have a great day.
I absolutely loved Daisy as a character. I've read the book that the movie is based on, and it leaves me even more desperate to know her story. I have so many questions about her backstory, about how her mind worked, about who she was/could have been as a person outside of the abuse. And to think she was based off of a real person is even more haunting. I've literally scoured the internet reading everything I could about her, trying to learn as much about the character as possible, and it's never enough. I don't know why she has had such an impact on me. Anyway, thanks for the video!!
@kaylainkorea9884 That is awesome! There is nothing wrong with being enraptured by a character or an actor's performance that you want to seek out more of that character. I think that is why some people create fanfiction and artwork of characters. Its a way to still stay connected and extend the life of the character. If you enjoy writing or if you are a content creator you should share your love and appreciation of the Daisy character. That is what I did and it allowed me to meet awesome fans like yourself. I'm finding out the things that scare you or make you questions whether you should or shouldn't are ways the universe is telling you to do it. Now not everything that scares you are invitations for you to do them. However, if the thing that frightens you causes you to grow in a positive way spiritually, mentally or physically, imho you should give it a go. I'm glad I did and I'm thankful this video resonated with you. Thank you for your support. Sorry for the long reply. Have a beautiful and wonderful day!
@alimichalkan8046, 100% agree. At the very least an Academy nomination. But it is what it is. Thank you so much for your comment and have a wonderful day!
I was seriously considering ending my life a few years ago. I ended up watching a Girl, Interrupted rerun on tv days before I was planning on leaving and that scene absolutely broke me. It's so devastating how it plays out, but what got me was Lisa's cat meowing sadly at the bathroom door. It got me thinking that my cat would probably do the same if I went though with it and that broke me even more. I'm still here today because of that movie, but I can't ever watch it again. Britney Murphey was phenomenal in it. You could actually see the spark leave her eyes when she's on that staircase and her...acceptance(?) of what she has to do next. It's chilling to see. She was such a rare talent
@ana_d_73 I want to thank you very much for sharing your experience and how this scene resonated with you. You mentioned something very profound. Something I did not even take into account. Ruby the Cat and how she felt! This comment made me think about my own cat, "Beef" I can't imagine him scratching at my door wanting to get in. It makes me sad just thinking about it. Brittany had beautiful, big expressive eyes. It was on of her best assets because she used her eyes to tell so many stories. Stories that were under the surface. Thank you for this wonderfully insightful comment. Have a wonderful day!
I would take it a step further and say she deserved the award over Angelina. I think Angelina's performance was great, don't get me wrong... but like you and many others, Brittany Murphy's performance is what has ALWAYS stood out for me in this movie. The fact that she could do that with the least amount of screen time and lines makes her far more deserving of that award, IMO.
@taniamarie6716 Thank you very much for your comment. I agree with you. I think awards are given to the big showy performances and the more subtle brief performance go under the radar. In a related unrelated topic, I'm so glad that Anna Sawai won an award for her role in Shogun. That role was very delicate, reserved and looked incredibly hard to pull off but she did it! I only bring this up is because Brittany had the same skill level. She could be delicate and reserved and still show you she is on the edges of breaking with rage and despair. Thank you again and have a wonderful day!
A better Rush Hour, you say? I don't think I've even heard of that movie! And Brittany Murphy's in it! Gonna have to check it out. I adored Brittany Murphy and I agree she was among the best in her generation. My mother actually called me the day she died to tell me, because we bonded over Clueless when I was a kid and we both loved her so much in that! My fave roles of her were Sin City, Spun, and of course King of the Hill. Sometimes I think about an alternate universe where she was still with us, and starring in an HBO series as a badass lady detective. I think she was so good at portraying a different kind of femininity that is hard to come by in film and we really lost out on not having her in her older years. RIP
@mirrimaaz, Drive (1997) is a better Rush Hour to me! Your mileage may vary. Get it? I'm going to stop now. I would not rule it out that in another place and time she is out there somewhere kicking ass no matter what. Unfortunately I miss the Brittany that was here. I'm just really glad she had so many fans that cared about her and appreciated all of the work she gave. Thank you very much for your comment and have a wonderful day!
@borntodiy I'm sorry I made you cry. I'm so happy that this video resonated so much that you provided a beautiful comment. Brittany was a star and her energy, spirit and brilliance will last forever. Thanks again for your support and have a wonderful day!
@CLEOandBARB, You took the words right out of my mouth. There is a part of me that feels if Brittany was recognized while she was alive well maybe just maybe she might still be here. That is a very ignorant and selfish thing for me to say because I'm not privy to all of the factors of her life. You are right though! A award should not be a metric of success but if you do great work consistently shouldn't you be recognized? Thank you for your beautiful comment and have a lovely day!
She was such a versatile actress but her legacy fell alway under the radar of the Academy eventhough she gave so many Oscar worthy performances: Girl, interrupted, Don't say a word and my most favourite of hers Dead girl.
@arontamas5639 I 100% agree with you. She had so much depth and could switch her emotions in a millisecond. One day I will be brave enough to watch her in "The Dead Girl" I just need time. Thank you for your comment and support and have a good one.
@joytotha, It's so important to appreciate creative people and people in general while they are here. You never know if tomorrow they will not be here. Brittany, like Chadwick gave everything they had and will forever be missed. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and have a wonderful day!
Ryder needed an Oscar for it, too. I agree on Murphy as well. That film just - so many of them weren’t known so much. Now it’s all-star, and it’s perfect all the way through.
@Galaxie500IN, It is a great movie! Can I ask you a question do you feel this movie needs a remake? Again thank you for your comment and support, and have a awesome day!
@deellaboe437 That's exactly what I wanted to say. The unspoken communication is so vital. Her body language is screaming for help but she looks so calm. Thank you for pointing that out and have a great day!
I re-watched this movie recently. I think the entire cast put in wonderful performances. They worked so well together. I don't remember, did the movie win an Academy Award? This a movie that speaks to me 25 years later. In my opinion, this is one of those movies that's timeless.
@crystalrichards779. Thank you for your comment and support. I agree 100% with you, everyone in the cast knocked it out of the park! The film was nominated for several awards and Angelina Jolie took the bulk of those awards including 2000 Acad Award Best Actress in Supporting Role, Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance, Blockbuster Entertainment Award Winner and Critic Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress. Whoopi Goldberg won a Santa Barbara International Film Festival Ruby Award for her portrayal. The film itself was only nominated for a 2000 Teen Choice Award but it did not win that year. I hope that helps. Have a great day!
I’m not sure why TH-cam recommended me to you but you have a wonderful take on this and a perfect voice for explaining things! Such a pleasant, rich speaking voice you have.
@poultryprincessglam-ma9298 Thank you so much for your lovely words of encouragement! I'm glad this video resonated with you and I hope you have a great day!
@Jessicaunarex, that is not an easy thing to do. Some actors are good in one genre and not another but that was the versatility of Brittany. She could have done anything and it would have been outstanding because she gave a shit about what she was doing! I admire that! Thank you for your awesome comment and have a wonderful day!
Brittany Murphy was my favorite actress when Girl, Interrupted came out. her character was so alike to my best friend that the performance tore my guts out. I can't believe she didn't get the Academy Award but that's how this stuff goes.
@peachy_lil. I sometimes despise how stuff goes. It's like the truly talented are never truly appreciated until they are gone. Thank you for your great comment. Have a great day.
Idk about winning an Oscar, but Brittany Murphy was HELLA good! I still think about her and how sad her character was. And let’s not forget her mixing up chicken and kitchen. And that Skeeter Davis is song….man!
@baronvg, Thank you so much for your providing you opinion and for the call out regarding that slip of the tongue between Kitchen and Chicken. Yeah that song is a major nope for me. Have a wonderful day!
My goodness you seem like such a sweet person. I totally agree with your review. Brittany Murphy was incredible, rest in peace. So glad you added the helpline in.
@thereversepolarbear Thank you so much for your kind words. Yeah I was nervous on the hotline part specifically. I did not want to offend anyone but I also wanted to through out a lifeline because you never know. Thank you again for your beautiful words and have a wonderful day!
This is one of my favorite movies and Brittany was absolutely incredible in it. Much like you, I have trouble with the morning after scene. I can't watch it either. Great video!
@KingofDudes-hm3wx There is a rawness to this scene that is undeniable. I may not have experienced what Daisy, Susanna, or Lisa have been through but I have experienced feeling so much pride one minute and having someone rip that away from me. Reducing my self esteem to a shred or crumb of what it used to be. That in no way equates to what Daisy was feeling in those final moments but in this scene I was able to sympathize with Daisy and put my self in her shoes. That is once again the brilliance of the direction, writing, and the raw talent of Angelina Jolie, Winona Ryder and Brittany Murphy. It was just too real for me to forget! Thank you for your awesome comment and support and have a wonderful and beautiful day!
@@yikesreviews I 100% agree with you. She was phenomenal in that movie and the way you broke down her character just with the short time she was in the movie was so spot on. She was so memorable not just because she's Brittany Murphy, who is amazing, because she really did the most with the material she had. She may have had less screentime but Daisy doesn't leave you. It was such an incredibly movie. I love your take on this. I can't wait to see more.
@zingara76, That is why I will skip that song every time in plays on Spotify. Why do I have the song saved? Idk. Why haven't I removed it from my playlist? Again Idk. Thank you very much for your comment and have a awesome day!
@colleencolquhoun8818 Thank you very much for your kind words of encouragement. I think the best qualities I love about Brittany Murphy other than being a great actress. I like how she uses her face and voice to tell a story. She could say one thing but subliminally she is communicating something else. Something deeper under the surface. I admire that so much. Have a wonderful day!
@jeffreytabler4222, That movie is a twisted take on Red Riding Hood but in a good way. Her character in that movie was a combination of adorable, thirsty and disturbed. I wanted to know more about her like how she got all those scars. I loved her performance as usual. Thank you for your comment and have a wonderful day!
@attitudeproblem6462 foreboding scenes like this one can be just as potent, creepy and scary as a horror movie, if not more so. Lisa's words were a butchers knife to Daisy's soul and I knew she was already dead before walking up the steps I just did not want to see the aftermath. Some people are really good at tearing down a person. They know just the right words and know when to say them at just the right time to push some one off the brink. That is why this scene sticks with me so much! Thank you for your comment and have a wonderful day!
I agree with 💯 I rewatched this movie last year after seeing it for the first time when it came out. In my re-watch... I realized Brittany was truly THE force in this movie! The others were great, but Brittany was haunting every time. R.i.P. 🕊
Agreed and Drop Dead Gorgeous is one of the best and most under rated films. If you catch the Mom with cigarette and beer can attached to her hand it's just brilliant
@kristamorehead-mcnutt1714 I love Drop Dead Gorgeous so much. I also love Ellen Barkin. She is hilarious in that movie She was really good in the film "Switch". Thank you for your comment and have a wonderful weekend!
@unerevuese I 100% agree. You could only get this type of scene if every single person is giving their A-game and I will never forget this scene. Thank you very much for your comment and have a wonderful weekend!
@computerblue84, awesome name by the way. I 100% agree with you. She was magnetic and there were so many dimensions to her character the world never got to see only in small glimpses on screen. She wore her heart on her sleeve and I always imagine what she would be if she were alive today. I would like to think she would be a Director or a philanthropist but I definitely know she would be an award winner. Thank you so much for your lovely and insightful comment. Thank you for your words of encouragement and have a wonderful weekend!
Brittany Murphy fans - if you've never seen the movie "Don't Say A Word" (Brittany Murphy & Michael Douglas) - you've absolutely got to watch it - her acting is so beyond....................sad she's gone so soon - she was more talented than most realized.
They definitely need to start acknowledging minor roles in film. I was watching Casualties of War and was gobsmacked the actress that played Tran didn't get a SINGLE nomination even though she's putting the biggest performance in the movie.
I 100% agree with you. The Academy needs to do better in general. Some actors would be happy if the were just nominated. It matters! Have a beautiful day!
Brittany is in some of my fav movies. Girl interrupted, Clueless, Spun, Uptown Girls. Also loved her when she was on Sister, Sister in the 90’s. She is deeply missed.
@charitylove7378, Great talent especially when that talent is so exquisitely understated rarely is recognized. That is ok! Brittany Murphy's scene and various performances live on in so many peoples hearts and minds and that is better than any award. But if I could go back in time the Academy Award would be hers. Thank you for your comment and have a wonderful day!
@relax2dream164, Brittany was a natural born scene stealer and she could also play a lead. It's always tragic to the ones who leave too soon. Thank you so much for your comment and have a wonderful day!
I loved Brittany Murphy from clueless onward. She was a powerful force in this movie, and her character was the catalyst for winonas character to wake up and change.
Each of these young women (including Elizabeth Moss) gave outstanding performances and voice to the painful realities of abused and broken women everywhere. The film is pivotal. Thank you for this wonderful highlight.
@annettemurielle, Thank you very much for your beautiful and insightful comment. Everything aligned just right to make this movie resonate the way it did. From the direction, to the producers, to the writing and of course to the brilliant ensemble. Have a wonderful day!
Brittany Murphy should have definitely won an Oscar. I miss her so much! She was a gifted artist. RIP.
She was 💯 so many layers depth and madness
Acting is the lowest form of art. Congratulations winners
(I'm trying everyday tho.)
Brittany could be as calm as a breeze or as powerful as a hurricane.
The shame we feel is the shame they refuse. It's projected and not really ours. We must get past it. ❤
Thank you for your support and have a good one.
damn, she really would've been a great Harley Quinn
@eliza6971 She would have been the best Harley! Thank you for your comment and support. Have a good one.
So true ❣️
I was JUST thinking this
Omg, goosebumps it’s so true
Agree!❤❤
I respect someone admitting that a scene is too much for them, especially when it comes to a female character suffering.
Jolie's character was bigger and more showy. Plus, she had the industry connections. But BM was better.
Brittany Murphy was acting. Angelina Jolie was being herself.
@@kimmyfreak200I read the book years ago but forgot that part, god, that's heartbreakingly sad. 🙁
Brittany Murphy was a hugely underappreciated star and singer. She was always great and real in every role.
@zztopz7090 Thank you for providing your insights. Brittany deserved so many accolades during her time. Have a good one.
Most suicide isn't by unhoused people look it up
@@vortexvibes5944think it's meant to say hopelessness
I don’t think that’s true.
When she kept talking about her “chicken” when she meant, “kitchen” and then it all came clear when we realized her dad was horribly abusing her…and those foil swans with her left over chicken from when her dad would pick her up and take her out to dinner. She nailed that.❤
Her character is the only one I remember, come to think of it…I mean, I don’t remember anyone’s dialog from that movie, but I remember her saying, “chicken” when she meant to say, “kitchen,” and that was so tragic.

I feel so much the same about Brittney Murphy's character in Girl Interrupted! The way she plays Daisy always makes me wish the movie focused more on her journey. Thank you for this video!
@Purrfectblu, Thank you very much for your wonderful comment. Like the character Vision said in 2015's Avengers - Age of Ultron
"A thing is not beautiful because it lasts."
That line is both sad and beautiful in that sometimes the best things we experience in life are so fleeting.
Thank you for recognising Murphy’s performance in this film. Such a tragedy that her life was cut short.

i’m literally Brittany murphys biggest fan, he is such a beautiful genius and such an important actress in this horrible industry
I was also captivated by Brittany Murphy’s performance in Girl: Interrupted. She left this world too soon
@emv8869 the great ones always leave too soon! Thank you for your comment and have a wonderful day.
She definitely has a Marilyn Monroe feel to her. Both were so mesmerizing.
You are a very kind man. God bless you.
@desiderata333, thank you for your beautiful comment. Have a very blessed day and thank you for your support.
@@yikesreviews You're welcome. Yes uptown girls is still a bit psychological but it's more moving and uplifting than dark and creepy. Hope you enjoy!
Daisy was my favorite in that movie.
Hell, even her laugh was like magic, impossible to hear without smiling or laughing too. It's sad she didn't get the recognition she deserved when she was still with us.

@AvecPoesie, Thank you very much for your beautiful words of encouragement. I'm glad and honored that you subscribed to the channel. Have a wonderful day!
That morning after scene is just burned into my mind. It was truly horrific in a gut wrenching sad way. I definitely agree with you.
@Exorcist364xs great name by the way. Thank you for your comment and have a wonderful day!
Brittany was such an underrated but phenomenal actress and it makes me so sad that she's no longer here.
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
brittany kept crying when she was in the noose when they were filming
BM is great in " SPUN"
@graffic13 I'm going to be honest with you. I have stayed away from it as well as the film the "The Dead Girl". For obvious reasons. I'm feeling a little braver now though. I tell you what though. "Spun" is on Tubi and I'm going to watch it this weekend and I will tell you about it.
I might just do a review. Thanks for the suggestion and thank you for your support.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Spun is mostly just fun. Rewatched it a few weeks ago. She really was great in that. She was great in everything.
One of my Guilty Pleasure movies 😁 Its feels like a Fever Dream
Her story in the book is even more disturbing. I highly recommend the book to anyone who is also a fan of the film.
@@yikesreviews hah! No it seems like you and I share the same admiration for her. No need to apologize :)
She always has but never so much than her role as Daisy. Her Harley Quinn would be the stuff of legends. Thanks again for the support and have a wonderful day!
I agree with this, I absolutely hated Angelina's character. She was responsible for Daisy's suicide. Disgusting. So cruel, I hate people like this.
@@yikesreviews omg, that part alllways makes me laugh so hard!! Brittany was amazing! I wish more people have seen that film 😢💛
Her scenes were easily the most memorable. I agree. Great video!!
@delicatedominance, Thank you so much for your awesome comment and words of encouragement. Have a good one.
Thank you for sharing your love for the character and have a wonderful day!
I completely agree with you on this review, her performance was phenomenal, heartbreaking and absolutely unforgettable. And thanks for including that hotline and looking out for others. I subscribed to your channel after this review was recommended to me and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your content. 🙂
@NickNightfall1711, Thank you very much for your warm and beautiful comment. There were a lot of aspects of this video that I was hesitant to do. One was the subject matter and two was the hotline mention. I did not want to offend or scare off anyone.
Daisy should have been nominated at the very least. Brittany was so good portraying her.
Your appreciation brings tears to my eyes. Absolutely love your take, Brittany is even too good for an Oscar 🩷 forever remembered as a cut above

BM still shines. She doesn't need an award, her performances live on, awards are just numbers on paper. She was #1 in Girl Interrupted.
Thank you for your comment and support and have a good one.

its her unspoken words its how she delivered them
@deellaboe437 That's exactly what I wanted to say.

Thank you for your review. Loved Brittany in Drop Dead Gorgeous. She was great in both comedy and drama. Girl Interrupted is a timeless film.
I agree, that scene has always haunted me.

R.I.P. Brittany Murphy
I agree with 💯
I rewatched this movie last year after seeing it for the first time when it came out.
I know Angelina is remembered in this film, but Brittany just kills it in this role.
@unerevuese I 100% agree. You could only get this type of scene if every single person is giving their A-game and I will never forget this scene. Thank you very much for your comment and have a wonderful weekend!
I always carried the sentiment that Brittany was our Marilyn. I miss her so much. Fantastic analysis, sir!
Thank you for your words of encouragement and have a wonderful weekend!
first time on your channel, and all I gotta say is please more people like you.
@rebeccamurphy4695 Thank you very much for your beautiful comment. We are out there, just don't stop looking. Have a wonderful weekend!
Brittany Murphy fans - if you've never seen the movie "Don't Say A Word" (Brittany Murphy & Michael Douglas) - you've absolutely got to watch it - her acting is so beyond....................sad she's gone so soon - she was more talented than most realized.
@SerendipityNJ, Thank you for your comment and movie recommendation. Adding "Don't Say A Word" to the list! Have a wonderful day.
@feliciahoyos, I almost forgot she was in Sister Sister. She was everywhere in the 90's. Thanks for reminding me. Have a good one.
She really would have killed it as Harley!😢
@blufaerie, you know she would! Have a wonderful weekend!
Angelina deserved the Oscar but Brittany should have won it as well, if only that was possible
@lauren.xo01 Agreed. 100%! Thank you very much for your comment and have a wonderful day!
Brittany Murphy was an excellent actor she didn’t get the recognition she deserved 🥺
@@yikesreviews thank you 😊
Wow, both Brittany and Angelina nailed it!
I just totally agree Brittany was amazing in this film. She really just stole the show. It was tragic how she left this world too young.
😢❤️🇨🇦
I subbed, and can't wait to watch your other reviews.
Thank you for doing such a great job.
