The suicide is just so disturbing to me. The way it was filmed and the song; I can never listen to that song without thinking about Daisy. It's even sadder because it happened in real life. Daisy was a ticking time bomb and the hospital, patients knew that she was bound to do this. I think Lisa's bullying just helped make her decision quicker.

I have been in mental hospital about 4 times ( I have bipolar with psychotic features, sometimes lost touch with reality) and I have seen a girl just like this.... she took her life soon after leaving the hospital aswell, thats why this movie has always been soo disturbing to me , they actually portrayed the mental hospital pretty accurately at least in my country....there are different sections ofc for different type of people but the section I often was is pretty similar ( they never hold patients longer than 4 weeks tho, 3 months is max they can legaplly hold a person in mental hospital)

Wow, Angelina was really good in this. Lisa knew exactly what she was doing, she was just pressing her buttons and she knew if she went far enough she would get Daisy to kill herself. That my friends is the essence of being pure evil, cause she knew she had the power to do it and she knew the outcome and she still went ahead and did it. Although, there is a brief, really brief moment where Lisa thinks about what she's going to say, but she just does it anyways. Great acting from all three actresses.

I believe Lisa hated Daisy because despite all the obvious adversities and mental health issues; Daisy had a support system and still made it out of the mental ward living independently which made it reality for Lisa that she is far worse than Daisy and hates her because of it. Which is why I believe Lisa called her an “idiot” once she found Daisy, she knew that Daisy was better than her overall. 😢

I have only seen scenes of this movie, but What affects me the most is how Daisy says “enjoy Florida.” It’s so simple but so effective because it shows that a) she could’ve protested what Lisa said or defended herself, but she didn’t, AND she didn’t attack Lisa. B) she chose kindness and gentleness instead of choosing to escalate the situation. There are more layers, but those two things are very telling. Even though Lisa was so intentionally cruel, Daisy was gentle back. That shows me she already gave up on life and gave up hope of being rescued or leaving her abusive father. That shows me what kind of lies he must’ve told her and how calculatedly awful he must’ve been to her to completely dismantle her into someone who gave up instead of persevering and escaping. It’s horrible!
So she said “enjoy Florida.” As if to say, “you have no idea what it’s like. You think you do. You think that the evidence points to your bullying and lies being true. But you have no idea how horrible my dad is to me, and you have no idea the extent to which he demoralized and stripped me of humanity. So you can project your own abuse onto me and assume that I must stay because I enjoy this, but you have no idea. You have no idea how much I loathe this.” I don’t know the whole story, but to me, “enjoy Florida” is her way of saying “you just have no idea…and I’m sorry that your abusers made you into this cruel person. I’m sorry for your situation too, along with my situation. I’ve given up hope, but I’m not going to attack you back and make things worse.”
It was really holding a mirror up to Lisa and giving Lisa a chance to introspect herself and her cruel motivations and get to the bottom of her own issues. It looks like Lisa didn’t take that opportunity. At least in this scene.
    Heartbreaking

When Daisy said “You’re jealous Lisa.” that set her off and her attacks became vicious. Daisy had no idea but Lisa aimed for her like that because of the implication.

Yeah... and that makes it EXTRA sad and intense...
The scene already was SO strong and good and heavy and intense and sad...
And the song too... (Skeeter Davis - The End Of The World).
But knowing that she now really died, makes it ... well, I can't even describe it... :-((
R.I.P. Britanny Murphy... You beautiful, lovely, talented young woman...
    You will never be forgotten.

@TransmissionFilms YES, Lisa's bullying DID make Daisy want to end her life'n her pain much more faster. I bet it was the last straw for poor Daisy. The song & the music is very moving also in this scene with Daisy...an unforgettable scene!! Well acted also!! R.I.P. Brittany Murphy

She knows what she's going to find when she opens that bathroom door. That look - that pause - masterclass in acting. SO SO powerful. And somehow, knowing what became of Brittany Murphy adds another dimension of reality to the scene. I think about how much this scene affected me many times over the years. Winona (and the whole cast) at their best in a classic movie.

Angelina Joile(Lisa)was exceptional in this movie, she played the role of a sociopath so well, played it to a T, her mannerisms, her faces, her words, simply everything. Brittany Murphy was great too in her role, she was so messed up poor girl, mainly the fact she accepted what her father did to her, makes me cringe, just unbelievable. Crazy what mental illness can do.

Thanks SuddenlySnow for posting this. Great scene. I am going to try and see if i can find the "entire scene" from the time that Angelina (Lisa) and Winona (Susanna) show up at Daisy's door step (at her front door before Daisy lets them into her house). I have yet to see anyone post the scene from that point up until Lisa walks out Daisy's front door. I am going to keep looking though. Thanks again SuddenlySnow for posting this.
