You're right. My idea with EVIL Invocator was designing a card that with the next two expansions you have more Lackey generators (I'm expecting a new Class Lackey generator for each EVIL Class + Neutral ones) to create a solid base for running even 2 copies of the Invocator.
Hey, also, your card doesn't have crazy combo potential. It just seems like a way to get rid of lackeys and make bigger bodies, added to another reasonably large body. I think it's actually a lot better than Darkest Hour, balance-wise. And, I don't think Trump really considered how the actual effect of the two are *very* different.
How would you discover a weapon in a class that doesn't have weapons in standard? You can only discover within your class unless otherwise specified, also even in wild, discovering a weapon in like priest or mage or warlock would be just one sad, legendary weapon popping up.
@TjosTDings I consider 25 dust to be as close to nothing as to merit the term gambling. Besides if your goal is a specific card you will keep buying packs. It's not unheard of to spend hundreds of dollars on this game
@Jack Reaver It's kind of like if casinos gave you tokens that could be used every once in a while to buy the exact poker hand you wanted. It makes it a very different game, then.
The Dr. Boom card really bothers me, just because "boom" and "builder" are lowercase. Yeah, there's the actual mechanics, but that bothers me the most.
What you forgot to mention about Herbert, Highest Roller is that rolling "Discover" and "weapons" wouldn't work on a lot of classes. Unless you would discover a weapon from any class?
Trump, I think you miss the point of the highest roller, it's intentionally weak as the creator said, it's just meant to be a non competitive fun card people can play in decks like casino mage.
4:40 About Dr Boom being out of flavor because he builds... I haven't played WoW so I don't know about the lore, but does Ragnaros converts to the light at some point? Because if he doesn't, would you also takes lots of design stars out for a card that was actually printed, Ragnaros Lightlord?
newp gaston There actually is a lore precedent. The light does actively convert creatures into Lightbound versions. So for that alternate timeline, its not completely outlandish. Its just whether or not the Naru could do that, and given how it was sure it could convert Illidan it probably could.
The shadow agent card is actually great, the effect and battlecry are useful both times you play the card, especially if the shadowform upgrades like it would if casting the card!
With the shifting mercenary, why not make it say “at the end of your turn, if this is in your hand, transform into a random lackey” because then you can’t play it on turn 1 but you still keep the overall flavour of the card
My problem for the design of Shifting Mercenary is that your opponent has no knowledge if you have a Lackey. So far the only way to get a Lackey has been to play a card which clearly says "Add a Lackey to your hand". It's impossible for your opponent to play around it unlike with all other Lackey generation cards.
Playing around 1 mana "card" is not that important tbh, the effect is so minor that enemy can always have something similar to dealing 1 damage or so that a lackey would provide.
That last one reminds me of the 3 mana 4/3 that lets you play a free secret. That one is strong, but doesn't seem too bad and this one also gives your opponent the information of what secret it is. I feel like that sounds more fair, but idk?
I believe you missed the point on the gamble guy, its not only the top row that gets activated, its all three. So you would get 2 of the three activated, meaning you could discard 2 cards and draw one, discover 2 cards discard one etc (of the specified type of course). so it would be pretty cool, but it does indeed lack some flashiness
Correct me if I'm wrong. But I believe all they said was that they'd be adding more lackeys to the pool. Meaning the current lackey generation cards esentially get a wider pool as the year progresses but it doesn't have to mean that they're going to print more lackey generators. Also warlock flavour is a joke in this expansion anyway, transforming your deck into random legendaries? EVIL Invocator seems far closer to the warlock soul than blizzards own cards do this expansion
I actually find the idea of Dr. Boom, Master Builder a little bit interesting in that it reminds me of the theme of Whispers of the Old Gods where some evil characters become their good counterparts, like Ragnaros, the Lightlord.
12:00 what if you have this minion, fandral and the new 2/3 legendary (forgot the name) on the board and you cast a choose one card. Can't figure what will happen

So the way I see it, it's fine not being a mech.
With the Highest Roller card it would also be a design problem from the stand point of "discovering weapons" on classes that don't have any weapons, that would just mean they either get nothing so that card would be incredibly bad in most classes or they would have to discover weapons from other classes which would make it too strong, its a big miss in my opinion, id nick one extra star from design for that one

But does counterspell counter brandlemars battle cry if it’s already in play for the opponent? I know it’s a minion casting it but it’s still a spell being cast by the opponent technically
Oh yeah hearthstone can't possibly have gambling themes.... One moment while I go buy some packs for an absurd amount of money and not even get the cards I want, great design.
Am I the only one who thinks Hamuul would be crazy just with power of the wild in a token Druid? 2 mana give all minions +2/+2 kinda. You could argue it’s 7 mama give all minions +2/+2 with a 3/5 body with it but that still sounds kinda crazy too me.
That's not too far off of Cenarius; it's 2 mana cheaper but takes two cards from your hand instead of just one. Archmage Vargoth with Blessing of the Ancients already does something close to that for 7 mana with a 2/6 body, and it even gives you two extra Twinspelled copies where Hamuul wouldn't give you any.
Umm... and Spinning a slot machine to win legendary, common or Rare cards isint gambling to you? Loot boxes are gambling and the game has plenty of those!
why cant a pixie summon a unrelated ysera if some dragonhawk can summon a unrelated ragnaros? i dont see the conenction for either of them so i dont see why pixie cant
The evil invocator should be a 8 mana 6/6 with taunt and battlecry... add 2 random lackeys to your hand... and deathrattle.. destroy all lackeys.. Summon than many random demons.
Man, the odds on that gambling card are fucking terrible. 33.3% chance to do absolutely nothing, 22.2% chance to have a NEGATIVE effect (although that still has a chance to fizzle depending on your hand), 25.9% chance for an utter garbage effect for the stats/mana put into it (which also has a chance to fizzle since not everyone runs weapons), and an 18.5% chance to actually get an effect worth playing. If anything, it should be OVERSTATTED, not understatted.
"it's potentially 7-mana to summon a HUGE board!" I agree that's dumb. But Blizzard has already printed DOZENS of cards that do almost exactly that....not a strong argument against it.
Gamble could easily be renamed/skinned if gambling is an issue. That being said i think i can speak for most when I say we dont want to play that much rng in standard.

Yogg Saron didn't get Hall of famed. It got nerfed so that if it died or was removed it wouldn't cast anymore but it stayed in until rotations
8:15 "Incorporating gambling into the game may change the rating"
Lol, in a game where you pay for overpriced card packs with completely random results inside?
Finally One of the Custom Card Guys got that hamuul is a druid Not a shaman. 6* Design.
But does counterspell counter brandlemars battle cry if it’s already in play for the opponent? I know it’s a minion casting it but it’s still a spell being cast by the opponent technically
No counter-spell doesn’t activate on yogg or servant of yogg or the turtle caster. so it shouldn’t counter this
Oh yeah hearthstone can't possibly have gambling themes....
One moment while I go buy some packs for an absurd amount of money and not even get the cards I want, great design.
If u could get what u want it would be too eaay
Shut up
Who else is watching this during Uldum?
The druud card with 12 health seems way to overpowered right now
Am I the only one who thinks Hamuul would be crazy just with power of the wild in a token Druid? 2 mana give all minions +2/+2 kinda. You could argue it’s 7 mama give all minions +2/+2 with a 3/5 body with it but that still sounds kinda crazy too me.
That's not too far off of Cenarius; it's 2 mana cheaper but takes two cards from your hand instead of just one. Archmage Vargoth with Blessing of the Ancients already does something close to that for 7 mana with a 2/6 body, and it even gives you two extra Twinspelled copies where Hamuul wouldn't give you any.
Funny how he loves the new yogg card... guess he had a change of heart.
Brambleback could also be a good backup to go w/ secret eating effects
as far as shifting mercenary goes, blizzard gave priest the ability to play the one cost lackey that summons a random two cost on turn 1
Umm... and Spinning a slot machine to win legendary, common or Rare cards isint gambling to you? Loot boxes are gambling and the game has plenty of those!
Scrap crab Is a 6 mana mindcontrol that's a bit powerful when a lot of the top teir decks runs mechs
Don’t run mechs...(taps forehead) This Card could never be overpowered...
Shield toss is an epic because of the shield in the art
Haircut: 5 stars
why cant a pixie summon a unrelated ysera if some dragonhawk can summon a unrelated ragnaros? i dont see the conenction for either of them so i dont see why pixie cant
I think it transform completely into the lakey. So it will have that lakeys manacosts too.
The evil invocator should be a 8 mana 6/6 with taunt and battlecry... add 2 random lackeys to your hand... and deathrattle.. destroy all lackeys.. Summon than many random demons.
EVIL Invocator rework:
Battlecry: Destroy your lackeys. For each one, discover a Lackey.
There’s only 4 legendary mechs?!? He missed about 8 more... Did anyone else notice?
I think he meant 4 legendary mechs in standard
For the pixie at 3:40 just make it Aessina and it would make the card a 5 star design
Card Idea:
Trump's Balancing
Cost 1. Spell
The Attack and Life of all minions become equal to their costs
Yogg was nerfed not Hall of Famed.
in highest roller, perhaps you could change discard to play.
Dr.Boom, Meta Killer
Battlecry: Turn all mechs into bombs (wherever they are)
Man, the odds on that gambling card are fucking terrible.
My thought is, should every class have access to counterspell? And I don't think they should.
Elder brandlemar is unbalanced because one player always has the coin, which negate one players counterspell.
Yogg didnt get hall of famed, it just rotated out.
I want to see him review cards from r/flamewanker 👵👵👵
I didn’t think yogg got hall of famed.
Gamble could easily be renamed/skinned if gambling is an issue.
That being said i think i can speak for most when I say we dont want to play that much rng in standard.
