    @Trump - 7:13 The problem is that you keep arguing _whether_ Adapt will come back or not, when nobody else actually cares if it does or doesn't.
    It's a *Custom* card. The only things that should matter are the design and the balance, not Blizzard's release chronology and business decisions.
    People in CustomHearthstone rarely care about which expansions their cards could theoretically belong in, because they're not designing cards just so they could be put in the game - seeing as they don't work at Blizzard.
    It's just an unnecessary limitation you put on yourself and enforce on others. If a mechanic exists, and Blizzard didn't fully explore it in just 135 cards (hint: they never do), let people theorize for it without saying the opportunity is gone!

    • @oflordsgames
      @oflordsgames 6 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      He is rating if the card will ever see play/print, explained within the next 40 seconds. The main issue with it was that it had the boomsday logo on the card, meaning it was meant to be "printed" in that set.

      This is very true, and sadly I don't think Trump even understands this.

    • @FeamT
      @FeamT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      +oflords gamez I'm aware of his reasoning, but if he's going to keep mentioning it he should know why many people find it so irritating / silly.
      P.S: As far as I've seen, most people don't pay much attention to the expansion logo on their cards, it's just as likely they used that logo because it's the latest set, or because it involves a mechanic from that set. The set is released. The card will never be printed in that set. Arguing over that feels moot, but Trump often argues over it.
      - and, again, most people would rather find interesting combinations and synergies for game mechanics (like Omega + Adapt) without being bound by Blizzard's self-imposed set limitations.
      When it comes to theory-crafting, it's best to accept that some 'rules' are redundant and stifle creativity.

    • @FeamT
      @FeamT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +Domas Smaliukas - He's free to do what he wants, but some people will continue to complain or laugh about it as long as he does.
      I'm only trying to raise the other perspective on this matter, as someone who made cards on the subreddit before and knows why his system might frustrate people.
      If he chooses to keep arguing that 'dead' mechanics should be rated lower then it's up to him, but he's going to keep seeing them at the top frequently.

    Trump, you're lowkey encouraging creators to be less innovative and explore less ideas by condemning old mechanics. There is a beauty in the liberty of design when creating a custom HS card, and it's from that freedom which intrigue manifests and pulls at the audience and creators alike into the exploration of new ideas (and new ways to approach old ideas). So creators will most likely draw on the whole toolkit of HS, not just one aspect of it. A change in perspective from "would Blizzard print this in the method we are used to," to "would Blizzard print this in a sorta Best-of-Hearthstone expansion that would go straight into Wild," would benefit your design rating ideology.

    Your continuing insistence that use of an old mechanic makes a card unprintable shows you don’t understand the point of custom card creation.
    It’s a *custom* card. It’s imaginative. You can do what you like, including reworking old mechanics into fresh ideas, taking advantage of new mechanics and themes. Omega Being, for instance, is a really neat fusion of the Omega and Adapt mechanics.
    You don’t know that Adapt will never be resurrected or reworked for a future set. Joust was, in Raven Familiar. Even if it never is, *you shouldn’t penalise good ideas just because they use old mechanics.*

Creators can make whatever kind of cards they want with their """"" _imagination_ """", why can't Trump rate them however his format wants?

    Food for thought about Overeager Corgi.
    Technically you can draw cards on your opponent turn (naturalize, coldlight, enemy trading into your loot hoarder etc.).
    Having loot hoarder topdecking that and putting it right onto the battlefield would make it pretty good card combo - especially that if your opponent would trade in the early game into loot hoarder and couldn't trade with card put on the battlefield you could instantly attack using it.

  • @whorcares123

    Discharge Suit is off flavor, but the concept is perfectly fine. Caverns Below does the same thing(a hidden, ongoing effect), and if it is really too difficult to track, have the hero portrait have a glowing aura around it and when you hover your mouse over it, you see a card with the ongoing effect pop up so you can read it, similar to how you can see what a hero power does when you hover it.
    I also love the idea of having a legendary cycle of ongoing effects that make your plays or other state based effects slightly(but not drastically) better. I decided to take a crack at such a cycle:
    Primal Rage(8 mana Druid card): "For the rest of the game, your choose one cards instead have both effects." Making it 8 mana avoids Nourish abuse and still allows for cheeky 10 mana plays with Wrath or Power of the Wild, and it specifying cards keeps the Death Knight hero power from being too strong.
    Hunting Trails(5 mana Hunter card): "For the rest of the game, your traps cost (1) and any minions summoned from your traps gain +1 attack." Not really breakable, and requires being built around to work.
    Spell Overflow(3 mana Mage card): "For the rest of the game, when you cast a spell, deal 1 damage to a random enemy." Mini Flamewaker effect that can't be removed, but 1 damage shouldn't be too problematic, objectively weaker than +1 spell damage.
    Blessing of Vengeance(4 mana Paladin card): "For the rest of the game, when a friendly minion dies, restore 1 health to all other friendly characters." Pushes a tempo Paladin, gives some additional value to the hero power when you hit late game, and doesn't make aggro too strong I think.
    Loving Piety(6 mana Priest card): "For the rest of the game, if an effect would restore health to a friendly character, double that effect instead." 6 mana feels like the right cost for this, but there just might not be a version of Priest that cares about this kind of effect.
    Spiteful Welcome(5 mana Rogue card): "For the rest of the game, after your opponent summons a minion, deal one damage to it." Tax effect that feels like something that would be on flavor for a control rogue card, 5 mana may be too low for this however and it may prove problematic since it directly counters Divine Shield.
    Exert the Elements(4 mana Shaman card): "For the rest of the game, whenever you Overload, restore 3 health randomly split among all friendly characters." Requires being built around and gives 1/4 of a Healing Rain effect on Overload, so it is an additional .75 mana value on Overload card. Looks strong at first, but I feel it might actually be too weak. A more on flavor version of the Shaman card in this video.
    Dark Scrying(3 mana Warlock card): "For the rest of the game, whenever you discard a card, draw a card." Permanent Malchezzar's Imp effect. Makes Doomguard and Soulfire very strong, but requires a 3 mana investment(which I think would kill it being useful in aggro), needs to be built around and most discard cards are not good enough to play to begin with.
    Zealous Frontline(7 mana Warrior card): "For the rest of the game, your Taunt minions gain Rush." I originally wanted this to also give your Rush minions Taunt, but that felt way too powerful since Dr. Boom exists.

    Wording of 'Discover a card from your deck and discard it' would need to change to something like 'Reveal 3 cards from your deck and discard 1', as discover adds a card to your deck so the current wording would discard a card that was just added, (i.e. do nothing apart from adding to the discard count for other cards abilities), rather than actually discard a card from your original deck.

    Actually chaining crystallizers would not activate that warlock quest more than once. Because the subsequent damage would not actually hurt the hero, it would just remove the armor. And that doesn’t count. We’ve found this with later cards like from Scholomance where losing armor as priest or warlock doesn’t count as your health changing. And I’m almost certain something like this would count the same (even though the wording is technically different for “deal 30 damage to your hero” versus “your health total changed”.) I’m pretty sure there are older effects that would support this same interaction explanation.

    Trump I have to disagree with your rating on Fel Imp I think it is fair because you only really run those cards on quest warlock and quest warlock sucks and needs a card like this to help bump it up. I cant be used for other decks but they have to give up better cards to even put in other discard cards. Thinning your deck isnt actually a great thing because fatigue is a thing but where i do agree that this card isnt too great to print is that if the cards you have to choose are all cards you want (which would be good cards like Lich King and etc.) then you basically have an automatic disadvantage and are automatically behind on a good card. Discard is just a bad mechanic in my opinion.

    Betrayal is usually worse than supercollider because it is more situational as the targeted minion is not damaged, which is why supercollider is so strong. Against aggro decks a 7 mana entomb machine is a dead card because it only deals with one minion a turn, and against control decks it isn't even better than the rogue quest, shudderwock, frost lich jaina, etc. All of which generally cost less than 10 and are uninteractive. When every control deck runs weapon removal these days, a 7 mana entomb that damages you isn't actually that crazy. Entomb wouldn't even be that good in the current meta in my opinion.

    I feel like hearthstone needs to introduce what elder scrolls legends uses and MTG uses - support cards. These are either ongoing or active effects. • @morriganpandora3787
    @morriganpandora3787 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    The notion that Blizzard will never revisit old mechanics and themes bothers me. One of the most common complaints when MTG shifted from a 3 set per block structure to a 2 block per set paradigm was that there wasn't enough time or cards to enjoy the setting and mechanics and I feel that is true for Hearthstone especially with regard to the new "solo adventure content" What if there was a sequel to the Boomsday where all manner of irradiated or mutated creature and fel magic imbued mechs would be the theme expanding upon mechanics introduced in the set. The sparse few neutral and class mechs makes it difficult to adopt tribal strategies or any strategy really. If given more time and desig space Blizzard could improve the balance of certain mechanics and push new strategies instead of having to start over with something new every 4 months. The meta I feel has, for all of its diversity, stagnated over the past few expansions. After initial experimentation with new decks the decks proven successful from previous metas maintain their dominance into the new expansion and the former get scrapped. Narratively it would give them time to expand content as well. The puzzle labs could have been smaller and more succinct in design and the sequel set could have you achieving something with the knowledge accrued from experimentation in the boom lab. I like playing this game but I feel the story telling and design philosophy could be tempered and refined and as players experimenting with card design should he encouraged to refine it.

      Also no, doesn't counter that minion or any minion with similar text. There is no reason as to why this cards text would overwrite their text just because this says 100% and theirs is 50%. The 50% attack card could just as easily change the 100% to 50%.

    Fel Imp's text should say Battlecry: discover a card from your deck and send it to the shadow realm.

    If the Design rating reflects whether a card could ever be printed, wouldn't a Yes, No, Maybe rating be better and have another star rating category called something like Concept so if a card is a cool idea but would not see print (maybe because it includes a mechanic from an old set 😀) it could get acknowledgement that it's an interesting idea but not feasible?

    On Choose One: It is a pretty dumb choice by blizz to limit choose one to druid. Choose One is not a "special" mechanic - it is a very, VERY useful balance lever.
    On Discharge Suit: Creating new UI isnt the biggest thing, really. So many options. If Blizz introduces many (semi)permanent effects, they would just create a UI element that would behave similary to the "Triggered Effect" UI on minions and hovering over that element shows which effects are currently active. It could be kind of a dropdown menu, allowing you hover over the effect names for details even.
    So this is pretty easy to implement, all things considered. So yeah, design on this card is 4-5 stars: It introduces an interesting new effect. The effect is possible to implement, fits the gameplay of HS very well and would elevate its depth and creativity to a new level.

    3:20 super collider is way better than betrayal because the minions attack each other instead of just one doing its damage to two others.

    Trump, the first card each week is the subreddit's weekly desigm competition winner. Maybe you could like mention that in the video and say what the design prompt was? Would just give more context.

    Fel corruption is definetly more balanced and more interesting of a design than just 1 star, also trump, did it ever cross your mind that when you use crystalliser 4 times, you dont get 20armor, you only gain five because the damage is dealt to the armor that crystalliser gives you. It also wouldnt proc fel corruption, because it damages the armor, not your hero

    I think that the over eager corgi could be : "If you draw this card with 5 or less cards in hand put it onto the battlefield"
    So its powerful card but not overtuned.

    The only thing I come here for is to watch Trump give some ridiculous and insane commentary on custom cards. Literally everytime there's some mind-boggling reason to give super low rating to any card that's not a vanilla 2/3. If it is a River Crocolisk, then it's 5/5 for design, balance and excellence in card design.

      the spell is a leate game spell. its cheap, cause it has to be. it could be 5 mana, but then you could only gain 2 + mana from it w a full board. it horrible. so think about it first, then speak.

    That way it's only got one Defender per turn and the opponent has a chance to deal with it when first played.
