Thank you so much for discussing genetic predisposition to dark undereyes. I inherited very deep-set eyes with *extremely* dark circles from my mother, who was Eastern European & Lebanese, *both* of which are ethnicities are heavily prone to significant pigmentation around the eyes. But rather than inheriting her olive complexion (which I think modern Western "beauty standards" are at least somewhat accepting of as being more a more "complimenting" skintone of that hyperpigmation), I inherited my Scottish & Irish father's much *much* more fair "cool undertone" complexion. So the added contrast has always caused my circles to have been extremely pronounced & "bruised" looking, even when I was a child.
I've long known & understood that in my case it was hereditary, not an indication of me being "sickly" or "over-tired" as casual observers often take it upon themselves to comment on unsolicited, but sometimes it just feels very validating & affirming for medical professionals to remind the world of that. So thank you again.

Easter European usually have no pigmentation under eyes at all. Eastern Europeans have very fair skin, not much sun and eye circles are very rare, given a healthy lifestyle.

I cannot thank you enough for this video. I've had dark pigmentation under my eyes since childhood and for the longest time I thought it was me being tired or something. A friend suggested just a year ago that it may be genetic and it's crazy that it had never crossed my mind given my mother also has them and has had them since youth. Your video helped me not only confirm that it is pigmentation but also provided me with products to try and minimise the darkness of it as much as possible. It's the first time I hear of this. I hate wearing concealer so I felt like it couldn't be helped for the longest time! Thank you so much, I will try that!

I think it's 100% possible to embrace aging gracefully and still take steps to preserve our youthfulness all we can. There's a fine line between taking steps to prevent wrinkles and allowing our entire lives to be consumed by it, though. I know I've walked that line a few times myself.

I just love that pink sweater and shirt, and they really look good on you! As someone who probably has all under eye problems apart from pigmentation, I really appreciated this video. I had fillers under the eyes done years ago, by a very unprofessional provider, and it resulted in strange looking bags under the eyes. Nobody wanted to remove them, saying that hyaluronic acid should go away on it´s own with time and that hyaluronidase would melt my own tissue. Finally, over 2 years later one doctor accepted to remove them, such a relief. I´ve been suggested to try fat instead but I´ve been reluctant as I´m worried about anything that´s not possible to resolve if there´s a problem, I´m glad to hear your explanation about why fat injections should be avoided.

So much helpful in depth information. I feel like I’m someone that gets sucked into eye creams not knowing which ingredients are good for what or believing that in order to get a certain look I need some type of cosmetic treatment. It is so so helpful to have someone honestly and completely explain ingredients and what they do as well as explaining the realistic expectations from certain products or ingredients. It’s equally as refreshing to have you explain what different cosmetic procedures do and when they are necessary as well as normalizing these things instead of them being some sort of “taboo” for most people. And the background info on why or how you have certain issue is so freaking incredible. Thank you thank you thank you 🙏

I'd love a video on combining treatments for different problems (mine are: sagging, wrinkles, dark spots, KP, congested pores at T zone...). What things are good to do together, what to space out am and PM and day to day. There is great info on what ingredients/actives to use, but not on how to combine so they're working together. I know this may be very involved and better with a personal dermatologist, but I've never seen much on multiple problem concurrent treatments so thought it might make good content that a lot of people have questions about.

So, I think my major cause of dark circles is the second one. My under eyes are so dark a purple that they look black. When tilting my head back with direct light, it does lighten up a bit- but not entirely. I also have pretty extreme under eye hollows- because the fat bit that starts at my nose and continues to my cheeks is very prominent.
So they look black, and I’ve found no concealer or colour corrector that fixes it. And I’ve tried pretty much everything. But I haven’t tried caffeine or vitamin K, so I’ll give those a go. Fillers aren’t an option for me (I’ve heard they can help), because it’s just far too expensive, and budget skin care is as much as I can shell out for. But I’ll definitely put the Inkey List caffeine eye cream on my to buy list!

I pm 41 and have very thin, light skin and believe my dark circles are from allergies and being able to see the blood vessels. I’ve stopped trying to completely cover them, and more try to reflect off them. That has helped as the thick colors and formulas don’t set in and make it look worse. Recently I’ve started using The Ordinary Buffet + Copper peptides and hello! My undereyes are looking so good. Most sure what’s happening there, but I’m keeping it up.
