he had severe injury on both legs in 1986 when he was drafted and could not play at all for nearly 2 years, so it is a miracle that he managed to continue

I remember his last match with the Real Madrid before he went to NBA. He was quite emotional as he was very much loved and he knew it.

Indeed a GOAT caliber player. Gave the top NBA centers a run for the money even after serious injury has taken its toll.

A player that was top 3 centers in the NBA with all the injuries and 36 years old. Facing prime shaq in 7 games in the 2000. 13 years after his full health prime. And the after the nba came to Europe again snf win the mvp is savage

usually the reaction when you see Bill Walton is I can believe how tall this guy is
then you see him beside Sabonis who is as big as a tree

I wish we would have been able to see him play in the NBA as a young man. He was a force even after his knees went out. Well deserved Hall of Famer.

It was sad that injuries robbed him of his best years but he was still effective.

For me it was more so the cold war. Cause he could have been a Blazers in the mid 80s with Clyde Porter and Kersey. The difference between Sabis and Duckworth was that huge. Would have been a legendary team that would have possibly dominated the late 80s early 90s unlike the Lakers Detroit and Bulls.

The Dream is the best center ever. And Sabis, if he came in the NBA in 85 Hawks or 86 Blazers would in my opinion be the only center that could potentially take the goat center away from the dream. I am a Blazer fan fyi so possibly biased. But still he was original beyond belief. Centers didn't take many shots 10 ft out he did.

@@ds1570 It's not a totally crazy claim to make. However, I think Wilt's endurance and athleticism (not to mention his various accomplishments against more competitive competition) probably still puts Wilt ahead, but Sabonis, in his prime, was one of the best centers ever, and one of the best players ever. It makes it a bit harder to say how good he was when he wasn't playing against NBA players in his prime, but I think Sabonis is probably the most underrated player of all time.

The Soviet Union would never allow their star to be seen participating in American anything. Lithuania was apart of the Soviet Union until 1990.
