Arvydas Sabonis Pushed for NBA Rookie of the Year (TBS Segment - 1996)

  • Aired April 17, 1996 - Following a legendary career overseas, 7-foot-3 Arvydas Sabonis made his long-awaited NBA debut in 1995 at the age of 30. Despite being ravaged by leg injuries over the course of his European career, Sabonis immediately took to the league, averaging 14.5 points and 8.1 rebounds while finishing second to Damon Stoudamire in NBA Rookie of the Year voting.
    Sabonis went on to play seven years in the NBA, closing out his professional career in 2003 at age 38.

    I still remember that phantom foul call in the 2000 WCF vs the Lakers to foul him out of the game. That game was obviously fixed. All of the Shaq/Kobe championships have an asterix because they were fixed.

      Oh please don't be silly! Btw as a lifetime Laker fan... respect to Sabonis. And those Blazers gave the Lakers everything they could possibly give. But there is a difference between good teams and GOAT teams. L.A. owned everybody always and forever. Even during the Shaq and Kobe era...the only times L.A. lost was when they beat themselves. Obviously. Doesn't take away from Sabonis greatness though.
