Glad I found this now. My Golden is 9 weeks old and he is quite nippy. I always keep a toy nearby that way if he pounces, I use the toy between us. Hoping he picks up that we don't like getting bit. When he does bite (skin, clothes, pants, etc). I don't pull back, I calmly say no, and pull my puppy towards me to open his mouth. If I tug away, I think he thinks we are playing and he will pull back. I do notice when he gets tired he does less.
I’m getting a new Golden in 6 weeks after being without for 2 years. So it’s been 12 years since I’ve had a puppy of my own and I can’t thank you enough for your great explanations and teachings. I will make less mistakes this time around :)
You are so welcome Juan, it's exciting to hear you're bringing a new puppy into your life! This was all great advice .it started to get better after exercise ,he was too tired to bite and jump. i gave him a chewy bone too that helped. he was alot calmer after a walk. thanks for the tips!
Just yelp loudly like a dog whenever they bite you too hard. That’s how I taught my corgi to be gentle. They know what that sound means and it works. My girl is super gentle now and isn’t even 7 months yet.
This video helps so much! I love this channel. Can you guys make a video of the exercises you give to your dogs? Of course I want to keep my golden retriever as active as possible. I would like to see the most efficient workouts for him. I'm sure running can do a lot, but are there other workouts he should be doing?
Hey Rene, thanks so much for watching. Glad to hear you enjoyed our video and find out channel helpful! We do have a video looking at how much exercise is needed for a golden retriever: th-cam.com/video/5IT_NpB12bE/w-d-xo.html
Our new puppy only bites me! I am so frustrated and now black and blue. I do all of this and Dory still bites me. Dory is 6 months old and I just started to exercise her more. I sure hope it helps! I love my Dory but not her biting!
I’m doing tips and watching videos but my 10 week old golden retriever puppy will not stop biting, lunging, growling and snapping at me. I’m devastated. Thinking I might have to give him back. 🥺
Please dont. My puppy had the same problem and we were stuck at home but that wasnt stopping us from loving him now he is almost 1 year old and we love him so much i cant sleep without petting him and else it eventually gets easier just follow these rules and try to tell your dog that you are the leader that you are the alpha
I really appreciate your response to me. Gave me some much needed encouragement. I’m afraid that if I discipline that it’ll somehow make him hate me. Thnx! 😊
if you mean outside to play without supervision i think yes but only if you trust your puppy and as long as it’s for a short period of time. but if you mean for your puppy to live outside that’s cruel
Hi I have a 10 week old golden and when he bites you know about it. I’m hoping this video will help us out. It’s weird as he only seems to bite me and our two daughters. And just after he has been fed. We had a golden before and I can’t remember him doing any biting? Apart from this our little man goes though the night and is good with potty. Thanks for all your advice. Candy x
I get bruises on my arms because me golden play bites with me all the time, I try to correct him with sounds but still does not work 😔 good thing I found this video! Will try to train him consistently
We've actually got a video on one of our other channels looking at what to do when your puppy stops listening to you: th-cam.com/video/NDjavBGGHw4/w-d-xo.html&pbjreload=101
Be calm and assertive, say no, this is not the time for being hyper. You should be the one in control of you have a puppy or a child. Stop blaming it on the puppy's personality or whatever; learn and study your puppy, and teach boundaries.
Sorry you didn't find our video helpful. If you were looking for a more demonstration based video, check out our dedicated training channel. Here's one of our videos looking at how to stop you dog biting: th-cam.com/video/EfcxapE9DHQ/w-d-xo.html
I'm happy for the great advice, but please stop blah blah alot. It's TH-cam not TV series. You push the content with lots of nonsense intro every video

This is a proper way to teach. None of this instant quick ‘life hack’ crap which never works. Old school, holistic teaching. Thanks mate
