    Ethan, I'd also spend a few bucks and have then install isolation valves so that you can isolate each tank from the common manifold. That way, if one tank malfunctions you can just shut the isolation valve, pull out the problem tank and then use the good tank.

      A less expensive option would be a Spot Messenger satellite panic button, or similar device. It can send pre-programmed emergency messages or short texts along with your precise location, and their international rescue coordination center will contact the appropriate agency for help. Messages can also be sent to family and friends, and it can be programmed to drop digital "breadcrumbs" on an internet-accessible map (a good reason to keep it in a pocket, not your glove box!)

    Ethan, it's likely venting head pressure from an over filled tank or the valve may be worn, It can be scary but don't panic, stay calm, vent the camper, remove the tank, put it some distance away and let it vent, glad your okay, stay safe.

    Ethan, if this happens again, wrap a wet rag around the shut off valve and turn the valve off and remove the hose from the tank and remove the tank from the camper. The wet rag will keep the gas from igniting. I would check into replacing the 2 old tanks to new tanks. The hose connection may need to be replaced to fit the new tanks. Love your videos. Stay safe.

    Next time, if you’re paranoid about static electricity, you should be more worried about the batteries on all of those electronics causing a spark. Open the windows, and ventilate. Also, the lights on the truck will cause a spark when you open and close the door. And the metal on metal contract in the latches. You sort of psyched yourself out too much and not enough at the same time.

    • @DonaldDucksRevenge
      @DonaldDucksRevenge 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This is accurate. Electronics can easily exceed thresholds of ignition produced by static electricity.

    • @ProFriend
      @ProFriend 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DonaldDucksRevenge Electrical engineer here - a device can only cause ignition if it creates a spark, even a small one. Don't remove or install batteries in an explosive environment, and don't run motors (many spark internally).

    • @ProFriend
      @ProFriend 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The prohibition on cell phones while fueling only applies to phones with removable batteries - think flip phones. Smart phones are pretty much air and water tight, and produce no sparks internally or externally. They're really not a danger. If you have a flip phone though, best to leave it in the car. Dropping it could cause a small spark as the battery disengages, and if gasoline fumes are dense enough, kaboom!

Personally, I think I'd be completely paranoid about living in the camper with a propane tank following this. When the tanks, lines, and connectors are in good condition, they must be safe, otherwise no one would be using propane. I wish you the best, and have a Happy Thanksgiving today.

    Very happy you are safe. I used to love living in my motor home. I was also extremely leary of fires, with all the gas and propane stored underneath it. Also have to be cautious with some older camper refrigerators have electric and a gas operated that uses a pilot flame. The light switch on the truck door can also cause a spark. Yeah they wont fix older tanks or any tank that has significant rust on it. Camper life was always a fun adventure, kinda miss it. Thanks for all your vids, your time and efforts. I loved your camper and truck tour. I used to travel with my Husky, Zhivago a lot and he loved to ride in the camper but other times he just wanted to sit up front with me. I found a product, I think at Walmart; it's a blow up doughnut that fits between the back of the truck and the front of the camper so the dog can have free run or just hang his head over inside the cab to watch the road ahead. I didn't have to do anything with the windows because the camper and the truck both had sliding windows. I even used it to crawl from the cab to the camper without going outside.

    There are some places that will exchange the tank. Most places like Homedepot and Lowe's will. But your tank is an odd shape and probably old connectors. When you stop for refills or stop at campgrounds start asking if they know where you can get a new tank or update the tanks. Might be as simple as adding and adaptor for a new tank.

    This is common & happens. Buy new tank(s), its cheaper than repairing & recertifying old tanks.
    That's an over pressure relief valve. The tank has warmed up & it's over pressure now. Propane is heavier than air so leave the cabinet & the camper door open to outside & excess propane will dissipate out & there won't be any danger. Remove the tank from the cabinet & let it gas off.
    Once the propane has aired out of the camper, switch your hose to the new tank that's bleeding out gas & use it for a while to relieve the excess pressure off it.
    Enjoy the learning experience. 😊

    I think you handled the situation very well. The cotton balls and hand sanitizer idea was very resourceful. I'm glad everything turned out okay. It could have been a very different ending.

    I'm glad you're safe and thank you for sharing. Being aloine and frightened is not easy to share. The only extra thing I would have done (which you may have done but didn't show). was to open the windows to let the breeze blow though the camper to ease any gas buildup. You mentioned that the gas bottles and fittings are old - would it not be cheaper and safer in the long run to replace them rather than repair them? At least you now have another cooking option which you can use indoors or outdoors. We have one of those for blackouts and they are very efficient. Good wishes.

    Ethan you have guts. I have no idea if I would have been able to think clearly. Stay safe. This world is a lot more interesting with you in it than it would be without you.

    I think you handled that situation very well. At least you were aware of the static discharges. When entering the camper, I would have grounded myself to the camper metal outside and if possible, would have reached inside for any metal that was grounded to the camper metal such as window frames before letting go of the door metal. As long as you are continuously grounded to the camper, you shouldn't generate any sparks. You could also grab an extension cord and strip each end of one of the conductors inside it and ground one end to the camper metal and wrap the other end around your wrist to prevent sparks. Safe travels Ethan!

    My final suggestion....come to South FL. It is currently 76 feels like 83. You probably would never need to use your heat down here....we get maybe 3 or 4 days a year that are very cold and that's usually Jan or Feb...and i am a native Floridian, never lived in cold

    I might be silly, but could you install a rack on the outside of your camper, for the propane tanks. Have a secure adapter on the outside that goes to the inside, with a quick release. This would alleviate the gas inside your camper. I love your show and wish I could meet you. You're really cute.

    You need to instill a valve so you can separate each tank and use together or separately.

    EVERY person that owns a camper experiences that very same issue with propane...
    If it's not a line leak it's a valve leak. Replace any old tanks don't mess with old or rusty tanks.
    And check your lines with a soap and water mix spray bottle fir any babbling ( leaks) .
    I have all my tanks mounted outside my rig just for that reason you just experienced.
    Now you know what it is..!
    Don't be afraid of it..
    You KNOW what to do and hoe to do it. Be confident..and you will be safe.
    I'm proud of you for not loosing your cool and doing something stupid. You got this buddy.
    See you in the next video.
    Stay AWESOME...

    ETHAN !! I worked as a gas installer, repariman, etc. Propane tanks MUST be replaced every ten years. Also, over filling is a real issue, especially if yuo're where there are fluctuations in temperature.
    Propane is twice as heavy as air, it basically flows down and can also pool like water. If you ever have a leak inside, OPEN THE DOOR TO LET IT DRAIN OUT. Outside, also let it drain out.
    As for volitility, gasoline is much more dangerous, it has a wide ignition range (air to gas mixture) and one cup vaporized in a contained space has the explosive power of a stick of dynamite. Propane has a narrow ignition range. As for your "tank drama" I'm sorry you went through all this to find out your tanks were rotten. New tanks will fix the problem, so replace both of them. "Side" tanks are more expensive, and harder to find, but available.
    Bottom line, your system worked, your truck didn't explode, all is well. Thank God, you'll be thankful for the learning, all is well.
    As for the shower, don't be afraid to give folks a show, don't worry about the curtain, you have nothing to be ashamed of, the human body is a beautiful thing, created by God. You're fine.

    You're smart and resourceful Ethan. I probably would of just removed it from the camper and put the tank in the desert...Cut the hose or whatever I had to do to remove it. Thanks for posting on Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving!

    It is tough for me tell you what I would have done. You are so good at this! If my camper had a propane leak, I would have the luxury of emptying the tank quickly and switching to my second that works independently. Peace Ethan!

    Glad you're safe and I think you did the right thing. Very scary situation! I also agree with the other commentators that you need a sat phone or even Star Link internet so you at least have some capacity to get help if needed.
