Great job, Rob! I learned a valuable lesson from you... cutting a little where the hinges go, welding on the hinges, and then finishing the cutting. That thing ought to last someone a lifetime, as it looks like it would weigh several hundred lbs. Masterful! : )
This is a great example of simplicity in build, I'll be modelling my smoker build off yours using a 24" x 66" compressor tank. It's also great to hear the safe work methods explained in evacuation of the tank before any cutting was carried out
I like this size because you don't need a fork truck or industrial hoist to be able to build it. This is what I want to build only reverse flow and no paint. I want that beat up heavily used patina!
Great use of a old tank better to recycle than scrape it out , I'm thinking of have one built similar just looks like a steam locomotive with a bigger meat smoking area and fire box .... like the way u built the wheels , keeping it simple that's the best way .
Thanks Rob! I have been eyeing up my old air compressor tank to make one. Don't feel like scoring plate and bending something fancy. Got a shop yard full of scrap & all the tools & know how. Now to make a plan.
Thank your time making this video, i really appreciate it, i wish i can make my own smoker, but my welding skills are poor, im still learning, you make it look too easy, i will keep practicing until i can make a decent weld.
Awesome video!! Im trying to find the mastercraft double blade cutting disk / tool but could not get any information about it, can you please shade a link so that tool or similar? thank you so much!!
sweet little smoker...well not little but you know what I mean. My only question is how come you didnt add some air vents to keep the fire going in the box? once the door is closed you have no control over airflow. without airflow no fire lol.
@@BonifabcustomRobBonifacio nuff respek Boni. Really wish you were in Jamaica making those awesome smokers. I know they fetch a good price but i would definitely save and buy one from you.
@BonifabcustomRobBonifacio I got the same tank and have decided I’m gonna go ahead and turn her into a smoker. I got everything pulled off and opened up the main body. It’s been empty for years, as I filled it with each bubble it smelt strong of the odorant, even still as it is here full of water it smells super strong. Should I be concerned about this or is she good to go ahead and cut her top open? Thanks bud
3/8 inch air vessel? Thats nearly half an inch thick! That is way to thick for any air vessel ive ever heard of. Measure again, anything 1/4” or under will weld fine for a regular stick welder on a house plug, just dont get carried away and make it overly heavy or weight bearing, add extra supports until you learn to weld properly. This will be good practice.
I’m intrigued by that tool you use to cut the propane tank. Is that a regular grinder with a special blade? I’ve never seen those before. I’m enjoying your video!
Hey Rob! I love this video man I am currently building my own smoker out of a 100gallon propane tank and I’m using this video to get tips and ideas from. Can we get a video of this smoker in action next time you smoke some meat?? Have a good one Rob!
Big warning for people removing the valves on old propane tanks Some valves fail and will not allow the propane out simply by opening the valve In situations like that I’d consider drilling a small hole to allow the propane to evacuate Being extremely careful not to ignite the vapours in the tank Or just remove the valve being extremely careful not to be in front of the valve when you do so And wear gloves to protect from the blast of propane when the valve takes flight
Nice I got a hundred gallon I don't have all the tools yet but hope to have what I need within the year I got a hundred gallon propane tank that was built in the 40s in Oakland California I'm not sure if I want to go vertical or horizontal love your video
What's the dimensions of that tank? I have a 100lb cylinder that's similar to that, but appears to be taller and more narrow. If so, I might start looking for a different tank.
Why did you use a pipe to to the smoke box ??? First time I ever seen one been done I always use a damper. I just saw your cook video. Can you do a video with temp gauges in side the Pitt to see the even heat distribution please

Why is your firebox so small? It’s going to be a lot of fire maintenance. Should have made it 18” at least 1 foot isn’t deep enough. Good luck though everything else looks great good job man
So many you tubers never mention the fact that you can get "blowed up real good" as John Candy might say on Farm Film Celebrity Blow Up. And I see folks cutting the handles off before taking the valve off etc. I guess the one's that get blowed up didn't finish their videos. Take safety seriously folks!
You made that look really easy
Great video I really enjoyed watching it.
This is what exaclty need to make my own one, thankyou!

Thanks , i used stainless
Rob, Can you give more details on the model number of the Mastercraft Grinder/saw you are using at 12:10? Is it still available? Thanks
Its a double cut saw. They work great and are cheap at harbor freight.
Looks great but you need a drain on the bottom to drain the grease.
Great Job! Do Like!
Is there a possibility to put two levels of mash as in one lower and one (smaller in width) higher?
Yes definitely
Sweet 🤩

I’m in the uk, is it possible to weld a smoker with a welder that will run from household 13amp plug. I’m using a 3/8 inch air vessel as the main body

What gauge expanded metal did you use?
For the bottom shelf i used .125 and for the cooking grate it’s 1/16” thanks

What is the name of the grinding wheel
Isn't the fire box exit to the pit too small? A 4 inch tube?
Such of good video.. u made a detail instructions mate😊❤

I’ve used both types they all work
What saw is that you're using for cutting the door? Looking on CT website for it.
Ya it’s there double cut saw not sure if they sell it still
Should always weld up on your verticals. Way better penetration, especially with mig. Don’t put all that hard work in just for cold pass.
Why did you use a pipe to to the smoke box ??? First time I ever seen one been done I always use a damper. I just saw your cook video. Can you do a video with temp gauges in side the Pitt to see the even heat distribution please
What do you use to keep the firebox door closed.
Didn’t see any type of latch
On this small type of smoker i don’t use anything, because i use the door to regulate the air flow I’m constantly opening and closing it thanks
Hope to see these for sale soon. Maybe just one a month.
Where does the grease go ???
Hey, how many hours do you reckon it took ya to make it? (not including planning or sourcing material).
I would say about 8hrs with paint
Can you post a link to that grinder blade that you use?
Unfortunately they don’t make the grinder any longer
What gauge metal did you use for your firebox
1/4” steel for the firebox
Was there an angle on the legs? they look a little angled to the sides.
Ya about 3 degrees thanks
Thank you great job.
How much would you sell it for
I sell them for 1000$
I'm sorry but... did you mean to lookalike the guy from men in black 3? All jokes aside great video boss!
I wish you would have left the original colors and high heat clear coated it.
