Im buying a Hondo for my dad for Xmas. It’s the kind of thing he would never buy for himself, but he’s absolutely gonna love it. I know he will talk about it all the time. He’s in his 70s and he’s worked hard his whole life and at this point he deserves to have really really nice things cause what the hell are we saving the money for anyway. Spending extra money to make sure that he has something amazing is going to make me happy my whole life a whole lot more than saving $150 for the basic brand. He’ll but just be taking it out of the trunk and setting it up nearby because he goes fishing with my nephew who is positively addicted to fishing and will stay out for five or six hours because he’s a kid and doesn’t understand that grandpa needs a break and God only knows my dad would never say a thing sitting in those rickety chairs he’s gonna be over the moon. Another thing is great about being an adult. You can’t wait for Christmas to GIVE gifts. thank you for your help. You rock.
P.S. I spent the extra $ for the Hondo carrying case, and it makes the chair way easier to carry, pack and store. As with everything Yeti, the quality of the case/cover is first rate and super tough. However, I wish the case came with the $299 price. I agree that the Hondo's weight is a disadvantage when transporting it, but I love the solid build once it is set up. Also, the light colored Hondo armrests help reflect the sun so you don't scald your arms in full sunlight.
Thank you Greg. Mine has held up well and is very comfortable and portable. You will love it. Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video. JD
Thank you for your honest and detailed review, you help me decide go with Hondo. I like the compact of trailhead, portability, space saving. But I have to go with Hondo because of it's comfort, and it matter the most when you have to sitting for hours. I love over engineered stuff in general
Thanks for the great review. The only thing I would change or add, is having you sit in both, so we could get an idea how much room is taken up in each chair. Thanks.
Excellent comparison review. Both of these look 10X better than anything out there. It looks like the Hondo is a bit more rugged. They definitely need to come with a storage bag. Sitting a the kids baseball game I needed a chair that is sturdy and keeps the back from caving backwards.
Thank you. Both chairs are still holding up well. I'm pretty sure it's been over 5 years with the Hondo and it still looks great. Quality product for sure and very comfortable. JD
Thanks for the video. Tired of blowing through chairs. Probably will go with the hondo because a lower chair will make it more stable because i use it on the deck of a tallship.
I would buy a set, but I would prefer to buy in a color scheme that was similar to their new orange colored product lines. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
Someone mentioned a difference in comfort for people with lower back issues? The way the Trailhead back wraps around to the seat looks like it might cause some problems. Any feedback?
I just ordered the Traihead today.....I needed a chair that I could keep out in the sun 365 a year. I have been buying these "Freestyle Rockers" chairs but they get ripped from exposure to the sun. They were ripping in less than a year at $69....Hoping Yeti's UV protection will be worth the price
Mine are not in the sun all the time but we do bring them to the beach with us so they have been exposed quite a bit over the years. No fading and still look brand new. I think I've had the Hondo for about 6 years now and the trailhead for 4 years. JD
@@JDOffline I am sure intermittent time in the sun is just fine. The company says the chairs have to be stored indoors. The tree I bought were in the sun everyday and each chair last less than a year.
I wonder if the Hondo has white arm rests because it is better suited to sit on sand at the beach? They would not get nearly as hot as the dark ones on the Trailhead. Deciding between the two and leaning towards Hondo. Thanks for the comparison!
Thanks for helping me decide on buying a yeti chair i absolutely love my trailhead not to many know that yeti makes these chairs so wen they see mines they are automatically interested in it
Roberto Hernandez I’m glad my video helped! Yeah people are always surprised when they see the yeti chair. Wish they’d make a lower to the ground beach chair. Thanks for the feedback and comment.
I'm struggling big time choosing between the 2. We're going camping in Sequoia (car camping/campground) next month and I have an F350, but with all the wood I'm bringing and the Yeti 125, huge Kodiak Canvas tent, then all the clothes and crap my wife will bring, I see filling up that bed pretty quickly. The Trailhead is an obvious win due to size, but the Hondo really looks like a lot "more chair" for the same $$. I'd also probably use these at the beach so the trailhead with stuff sack would also make a lot of sense there, but I can't stop wanting the Hondo.
Jim, it is a tough call. I bring my Hondo down to the beach all the time and "find" room for it if I have to in the truck. The trailhead makes more sense absolutely but I'm partial to the Hondo for sure. Love that chair. Let us know what you decide, you really can't go wrong either way!!
I'm around 6', 185 lbs. I sat in the Trailhead in Dick's and it was the most comfortable chair I ever sat in. The Hondo looks even more comfortable, but I'm afraid the lower seat will come into play with my longer legs. Thoughts?
Just my opinion Eddie but the Hondo is much more comfortable for me but I'm a little taller at 6' 2" and a lot heavier than you (260). The Trailhead is a little narrow for me so I like the extra width of the Hondo. No issues with my height/long legs in either chair. I would look at how you are going to use it, if you are going to transport the chair frequently I would hands down go with the Trailhead due to it's fold up design and carrying bag. If this is truly a base camp chair meaning it will stay in one place, I'd go with the Hondo all day long. Both are truly of equal comfort but the Hondo wins for me due to the extra width but when I go places, I only take the Trailhead chair. Just more convenient to carry and just as comfortable as the Hondo. I use these chairs all the time and both have held up amazingly well. Hope this helps. JD
Yeti has a lot of competition for it's coolers and drinkware but I don't know of anyone else that makes chairs like this. Mine are still great and holding up very well. They are an investment but they do last. JD
Awesome vid dude! I love my hondo, and will be adding a trailhead soon!!! Thanks for the review, it was a great one!!! Have a freakn insane day and rock on!!
Andrew, I haven't used the Trailhead chair enough to say but the Hondo is extremely stable as you know since you have one. Based on what I've see so far from the Trailhead chair I think it will also do great on uneven surfaces. It has fairly large "feet" but not large enough to make it inflexible over uneven terrain. Wish I could give you more concrete information on your question but I just haven't used it enough at this point. I'm taking it fishing in Florida for a week next week so I'll have better information soon!
Does the hard plastic cup holder (from the Hondo) fit on the Trailhead chair? That cup holder is one of favorite things about my Hondo, but the portability of the Trailhead is appealing.
The cup holders are not interchangeable and you will like the hard plastic cup holder on the Hondo better than the cup holder on the Trailhead (my opinion). Thanks for the question/comment. JD
Agree. The trailhead is a nice chair, but it’s too narrow. I’m going with the hondo for the size and because it’s overbuilt....it’s a tank compared to the trailhead!
That's a tough one Amanda, they are both made of steel and prolonged exposure to water will cause steel to rust regardless of who makes the chair. You might be better served with an all aluminum chair like a boat chair that wouldn't rust after exposure to the water. Someone might have a different opinion but that's mine for what it's worth. Hope this helps. JD
seems like even though it is 500 lb rated, it is not for larger people. Most large camp chairs have 23-26 inch width seating.... Not sure I would fit in one of these
Thanks for doing the comparo. Me being of wide body and short legs, it looks like I'll stick with the Hondo. I'll probably order another for the wife soon. Also, be interesting to see how the Trailhead holds up after a year.
man boat look good. looking for one for a boat deck...that plastic bottom would make it slippery I think. If you know of one , sort of of a 'wise folding' style chair but withe the yeti quality lmk. Thanks.

Thanks so much for the comparison. Would you say the Trailhead is uncomfortable? I am female, 5'4 1/2" so the shorter sounds better but the lighter and less storage footprint sounds much, much better. Do you think I will be uncomfortable in the Trailhead?
