I went to a nutritionist who does high magnification of blood. I was amazed at the little blue Crystals floating around in my blood. High uric acid. I gathered that, enzymes such as protease and amylase and drinking more clean water can help. I also take a Tart Cherry supplement before bed., which has melatonin and it does help me sleep. I also use fermented foods, White Chinese mulberry extract, cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia), Omega-3 fatty acids. Drinking water helps the kidneys. I was not drinking enough.

I would look into the meds. Some u must take for life
Nasty side effects etc. Find alternate methods that work. Had gout 3x in 6 yrs. No.meds ever. Just had 3rd gout bad flare up. I missed the warning. I usually drink tart cherry juice concentrated...or cherries smoothie with omega 3 chia when I feel a Lil twinge in big toe. Meds are 5050 for some and don't work for some...not worth side effects or stomach issues...especially if you still have gout for days or weeks and other med caused issues. I eat organic red onions...that cherries lime juice, anti inflammatory low purine uric acid reducing foods etc...work best fir me. 1st gout experience 1 to 2 months on my own. 2nd, few weeks on my own. This one, few days and I'm doing ice 20 elevate all above cherries even celery turmeric lime juice water black pepper cayenne smoothies...red onion cherry juice cherries smoothie...bad taste but working for me. Fake 5 % yog with crushed chia seeds. 3 days...2 days worst pain barely walkkng...no ibuprofen no meds, taking the pain when I had to walk in loose shoes. So many better ways than the easy yet suspect med route. I'm gonna try and stay away from sugars, breads, carbonated drinks, carby junk too. Cause 3x in 6 yrs is enough.

@@rheumatologistoncall I'm 67 years old and had my first and only gout attack about a year after my twin brother has his. Beer triggered mine, crab cakes for lunch and fish for dinner triggered mine. I was surprised and pleased to see the total purines in wild Alaska sockeye salmon was low relative to many other commercial fish species according to the USDA database.

Instead of saying avoid "FISH" perhaps it would be better to specifically mention "SHELLFISH" since they present a problem for those with Gout while fish like Salmon and Haddock offer nutritional value people still need.

You give the textbook information, but there is another school of thought that a very low carb diet, even one high in red meat reduces gout attacks. I used to have high uric acid, and I had occasional foot pain which I thought might be gout. Well, I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic 15 years ago. About 7 years ago I started going low carb, then very low carb. Since then my uric acid levels steadily dropped, and now in the normal level while I am eating lots of red meats and even organ meats at times. I'm not saying this works for everyone, but the textbook on uric acid and gout need to be re-thought and perhaps re-written. There is definitely a uric acid component in metabolic syndrome and there may be other ways to reduce uric acid than abstaining from purine-containing foods.

Try eating 80% of your daily calories as complex carbohydrates such as fresh vegetables, legumes, some fruit, 100% whole grain breads, pastas and rice. Eat mostly beans for protein. 10% of your daily calories can be protein such as chicken breast, turkey, fish, lean red beef and lamb. Avoid pork, processed meats like sausages and hot dogs, avoid all seafood as well like lobster, shrimp and crab for example. Finally, eat 10% of your daily calories as fat like milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, eggs and so on. Drink only water, herbal teas and coffee. Avoid processed foods like snack bars, cookies, cereals etc... Do not fry your food. Only boil it or bake it in the oven. BBQ meat is fine too. Cook only with 100% extra virgin olive oil. Do not use corn oil, vegetable oil, canola or other types of oil that are toxic to your health. Finally, I supplement my gout diet with NutriGout to help cleanse the kidneys. Good luck!
