It's so important to see a rheumatologist if you have these symptoms because so many conditions have similar symptoms. I have had ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia for around 20 years, but was diagnosed by my rheumatologist with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis a few years ago. With this type of RA the blood tests don't usually show positive for RA so it makes getting diagnosed more difficult. Because many of the symptoms cross with what I already had, it was only when I went to see a new doctor that the additional condition was found. I probably had it for about 4 years before that. Since I already experienced pain from fibro, the additional pain in my hands and having my eyes be drier than usual did not seem like anything to be concerned about. Because my new doctor wanted a complete picture of my condition, we discussed every symptom I had and he did a thorough exam. I feel lucky that it was found and I began treatment before it got too far along.

I have sjogrens, EDS and am now 45.
My youngest two children have mitochondrial disease of unknown cause and EDS.
I was so healthy before but then it seemed like a chain of events out of nowhere.
When I wake up, I often have loss of circulation in at least one hand and foot. I’ve never been overweight and was raised on farm & our own garden. It’s been a journey.
And yes, my teeth were lovely most of my life and now are as bad as a person without dental care.
🥴 For my kids and self, we’ve been all over US and never found answers or help.
Thank you for your channel! Medical professionals need to know more and not stop learning after school. Diagnosis can only help if you find a knowledgeable & caring Dr & afford the copays. Hard in US

I find that I am forced to find my own information and answers to this disease as my rheumatologist is most unhelpful and has even lied to me directly about blood test results and also by telling me nothing about the drugs she prescribes also saying not to look it up online, all major red flags, but when it's your health you're virtually held hostage over it, more red flags, I look after me though as no one else does. I hope you have worthwhile information to share. ❤

I'm not even 30 and have had autoimmune issues since the age of 14. I developed them before my dad, who gave me the genetic predisposition! My mental health and emotional state/ environmental irritants have the biggest effect, not medication. When you're stuck in an inescapable and unbearable situation, your immune system turns on you.

I have aunts and uncles with autoimmune diseases. All blood relatives ofc. Rheumatoid Arthritis is one, my oldest uncle has this. And he had uncurable colon cancer, and thanks to him fighting for gene therapy he is now cancer free. He had to fight for it, and he did. Hi from U.S.A.
I’m glad to hear to are able to receive medical care from a Rheumatologist despite having to drive for several hours. You are not alone. After seeing 3 Rheumatologist’s that were all 3 hours drive away, not one Doctor knew what was wrong. The 4th doctor, I like. He is treating me now with some success. This doctor is a 5 hour drive away. Not only in Nigeria are doctors hard to find and many hours drive away. In the U.S.A. this appears to be increasingly normal. It will only get worse as years go on.

Very informative! I have all these symptoms. However, I have been diagnosed with Sjogren's. The overlap of these conditions and their symptoms is quite interesting. As a side note, I believe that quite recently the terms primary and secondary associated with Sjogren's has recently been discontinued as has the term syndrome (replaced with the term disease).

It’s important to remember that this needs treatment. I recently had to tell my family of my diagnosis (I did it also to warn them of their risk) and was told it was just a sign I needed lifestyle changes. I cannot stress how dangerous it is to think like that. You cannot keep up naturally with these symptoms to prevent it entirely without it developing further and you cannot predict the intensity of a flare or the duration. It’s just not possible. We have the treatments, and they’re very safe. I can’t suggest more than to just get it treated.

At 34 I just felt sick and I was so tired. Then the foot pain began first n one foot then the other foot. I felt like I was walking on open wounds. My rheumatologist said my SED and RA Factor and the other test was off the charts. That and my textbook physical symptoms meant that the disease needed to be treated aggressively. Now 30 years later my life changed. I hurt everyday, have deformed feet, and tooth loss. Still the meds that r available today are great and can give RA patients an excellent quality of life.

How does RA differ from Connective Tissue Disease?
I have already got the diagnosis of PsA as it attacked my knee (seen on an MRi) but I have hand pain in both hands. I also have Raynauds. They say it’s rare to have PsA and RA but I think I have RA too. Currently on Humira which is helping my knee but not doing much for my hands. Humira also normalized my inflammation levels which were so concerning they thought I had blood cancer and sent me to an oncologist/hematologist. Luckily, no blood cancer just tons of inflammation.

    • @WVgrl59
      @WVgrl59 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is caused by inflammation.
If it is only happening once a month, maybe it is something that she is eating. Maybe not.
Since they don't know what inflammation causes it, then I would try to eat a vegetable diet for a month, raw and cooked, drinking lots of water and nothing else (sugar is an inflammatory food) to see if the inflammation goes down and it stops.
Then, you can try introducing new foods every week to see if any of the foods are inflammatory.
Sugar, high fructose corn syrup, genetically modified foods, and processed foods are all inflammatory.

I am 47. Both wrists started hurting out of nowhere. Within a week or so became excruciating. Have a rheumatologist appointment in a month after waiting 2 months already. The pain moves around from fingers to thumbs, now forearms and biceps when I twist my wrists. It never has really let up. Probably 5% of the time it doesn’t hurt to just sit. It feels more like tendon pain than joint pain. I’m about 40 lbs. overweight but rarely got sick my entire life. I’m just worried I’ll have someone put me on a ton of meds killing my liver and have worse side effects than the symptoms. Any advice please?
