- Now that Velasca is a Goddess, Gabrielle's life is in danger. The only one capable of stopping her is another immortal: Callisto, Xena's worst enemy.

I'll always love Callisto and, by association, Hudson Leick for playing her so well. I was 13 and VERY impressionable when I first watched her on Xena back in 1996--and honestly, I looked up to her as a strong female character even though I was a boy. Well, Callisto's single line about not drinking intoxicants because she wanted to "enjoy life in all it's agonizing glory, without dulling the sensations" actually kept me, a boy raised in poverty with a family history of alcoholism, from touching booze or drugs during my teen years. I know it sounds so cliche, but her character probably saved my life--or at least, saved me from going down a really bad path. Thank you Hudson and the writers of Xena for giving this great character life!

One of the most "unexpected joys," was when Hudson Lieck,the actress who portrayed Callisto was called in to fill in as Xena trapped in her body for a couple of episodes. 😳 If you have to have someone fill in for Lucy Lawless,then Callisto was the first and only choice .

Nah I wasn't scared of Calisto.I was more scared of Alti.
I used to like the other chick from Hercules that was always with Aries, she was like the god of Mischief or soemthing.
Im just realizing ,as an adult, how hard it must have been for the cast to keep a straight face while they are making all these weird and whacky noises during battle sequences where they are shooting imaginary CGI energy beams.
Hudson Leick does crazy so well.

@David Roberts That's the whole paradox of Callisto. Callisto has every right to want to kill Xena and hate her, but she doesn't have the right to kill the people she kills. It's extremely complicated for a show like this :)
Melinda Clarke was in just two episodes, but what a memorable impression she made. She was truly scary, and would have made a great regular cast member as another villain.

I wanted Velasca back so bad. They should have recasted the role when MC couldn’t do it with Musetta Vander, who played Illaina, Athena’s archer. They look so much alike. The audience deserved a return of Velasca.

Hercules snd Xena made for a pretty decent two hour block of entertainment. I kind of lost track in 1998 or so where the storyline was going.

I met Hudson Leik years ago, at a small con. I didn't know who she was at first. She was dressed up like a pink fairy, complete with a dress, a crown and a wand, and was bopping people on the head with it. I opened a door for her, and she turned and said "Well, aren't you a gentleman." "My pleasure." I said. Then later on...I found it was her. Oh...and she's REALLY pretty in person!
I had a massive crush on the character of Callisto growing up. Hudson Leick was so gorgeous and hot back then . She was the best person to play Callisto. She teaches Yoga now in California. I would love to take one of her classes . Still acts in shows and movies too ,however Callisto will invariably be her best role .
i named my daughter after gabrielle. funny thing is she grew up to be a book worm, just like the character. This show is amazing. This and Hercules.

Unfortunately other than the male cannon fodder thugs, the Big Bads seemed to be other women like Velly here or Callisto or Athena or Discord only having an "equal" fight with Ares. Not empowering when it's a henfight of the week or month.
So they need to be conquering men constantly to be empowered? There were other strong male characters in it anyway, they just weren’t reoccurring. I remember one guy Xena fought who was her equal and was only beaten by his over eagerness for battle.
Well, this show came in around the time of Hercules: legendary journeys. The audience was the same and the production crew was the same, mostly men.

This was a wonderful tv series that reinvented Greek myths
Kurt Snyder many villains throughout the six seasons were both men and women, and unlike you, the writers understood that the genders did not matter when it came to good storytelling. People like you who are obsessed with gender are constantly trying to downplay movies and shows of different eras despite most of them being great with representation and storytelling compared to the empty shells that populate mainstream movies today.
The infamous Callisto, I love her,Melinda played her character very well, she was on fire.
Velasca, Callisto, and Lao MA were one of the characters that I really loved. I wish we could've seen more from Lao Ma.

I know. This is where Xena wins. She's logical. They were so passionate about getting the powers the didn't realise it would be their undoing. I'd be really worried if Xena was ordering a surrender or to give in to the enemy.

I love this fight scene it is so intense , love that Xena saved Gabrielle and cuts the bridge sending them to their doom, it is funny when they are too busy fighting to notice, love xena’s smile when she sees her plan working and the way she jumps and saves Gabrielle before she falls, Vanessa is obsessed with killing Gabrielle the whole episode and Callisto with becoming a god but in the end they both die because of this and Gabrielle is saved, her and Xena are a great team

The show should've been called "Callisto: Warrior Princess", because I ended up rooting for Callisto every single time she showed up.
Lmao she went toe to toe with xena all the time homegirl didn't play all xena could do was trap her lol but when she became a god xena still fought well even with calistos strength and power and godhood....battle on xena lol if calisto didnt have that trauma happen to her early in life she woulda been an amazing warrior

Yeah, I wish they would have made a Callisto spinoff series.
Callisto was just too impatient and impulsive to beat Xena. I mean when Xena is telling Gabrielle to give Callisto the ambrosia then Callisto should smell a rat. But for Callisto it was plan A or nothing. She died for good in the end because she couldn't come up with Plan B.
She was a victim ultimately... she was xena's creation I'm just happy the writers gave her peace in the end
Please also upload the scene they talk around the campfire about Callisto's feelings and/or the scene where the trio are sword sparring in the quarry. "You don't just kill me and walk away!"

Callisto ultimately was more powerful than Velasca when she became a god since Callisto was already immortal.
looks like they were evenly matched, valesca was severely weakened because she was mortally wounded. PLot hole, velesca couldve ate that ambrosia instead let it drop into the fire.

Callisto is iconic! Such a great portrayal of a very complicated villain with a long history. Not to mention she used to GIVE it to Xena sometimes! Those fight scenes were everything!

I am deaf. I missed to watch it and Hercules on every Saturday nights with my Grandmother Grimm at her house.. We ate pizzas and watched it togethers. Good old times.. She died from cancer in 2012.
