    FCP Racing is known for its engine mounts, but now they're about to release a new product that has never before been available to the public. Steering races are changed out by the factory teams to angle the forks inward for tighter turning in Supercross and outward for more stability in motocross, but only the factory teams have utilized this form of adjustment up until now. In This Week in MXA, episode 169, presented by O'Neal, Josh Mosiman and Dennis Stapleton test the new FCP Race Cups on the 2024 Yamaha YZ450F to increase stability on the front end. Kris Palm joins us to explain how it works. Plus, Josh highlights the drama from the Birmingham Supercross and talks about the awesome prizes up for grabs this weekend on the MXA Fantasy League app.

    We've been doing this in Supermoto for YEARS.
    Husqvarna had it adjustable on their Stock Frame in 2006 - 2009 on the Husqvarna SM 450 RR / 530 RR
    Last few years we have had Razorback Steering Stem Races to steepen the angle by 1,3°
    Theres also rake adjustable triple clamps the like the Nuova Faor with which you can just adjust the rake by turning a hex screw, -1,5° to +1,5°. I am using that one on my racebike actually.
    Sorry, nothing new ;) Has been done for almost 20 Years and available to the public

    $600 for this is crazy, basically took head angle adjustment technique they've been using on mountain bikes for a decade and adapted it to motorcycles. Nothing more than cups machined at a slight angle and either custom made or sourced bearings that are smaller to make room and a cheap titanium washer. I understand you have to pay for the engineering but even $300 for this is a bit much.

      This is the price for being first to market to the public. Like anything, I'd expect other manufacturers to jump onto this, and eventually the price will drop down. The price currently needs to be created to offset the potential in low sales (ironically). Also given that this is a relatively boutique part, I assume the cost to manufacture each part isn't all that low. Keep in mind, this is a critical component, so quality should always be the first priority.

    • @jomacba
      @jomacba 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kylejo96 That statistic only reinforces the reason behind the price point. However; on that note, I highly doubt that this product is marketed towards the majority of consumers in the industry. The MTB industry saw an average of 40% market growth per annum, between 2021 and 2023 (effects of covid) and generally stead growth at approx 5% per annum since 2016 before that, and the popularity of angle adjustment headsets was never high. At the end of the day, again I reiterate this is clearly a boutique item, however I would expect at lest one or two other brands to throw their hat into the ring. Reality is, the price is justifiable to the right person.

    How are you running those bars that far back on that bike. I’m 6’2 and I cannot get up over the front on my yz450 without putting the bar mounts all the way forward. Weird how that’s what caught my eye throughout the whole deal. Lol.

    • @user-mo8tm4jw2l
      @user-mo8tm4jw2l 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@grant27combs honest question because I’m chasing rider triangle setup, how are you even able to stand up without using your arms to pull up to get over the front? I have a close friend I race with watching my body position so I know I’m personally jacked up on the yamaha. I have excellent form on the ktm. I have a long torso and long legs. Average arms. Ktm rider triangle vs yamaha triangle (bars rear hole flipped forwards on the yamaha) ktm is Luxon mounts rear hole flipped forwards. The ktm when I stand up I just use my legs, pivot and I’m stood up and over the front. The yamaha i have to do a big muscle up pull-up because of the peg to hip to bar relation. Takes way more body English to achieve. I end up sitting a lot more and when I stand I’m less aggressive. I prefer the yamaha over all to my ktm so I’m working on trying to replicate the rider triangle so I can get comfortable on the blue bike.
      I’d prefer my bars centerline on the yamaha but I haven’t been able to achieve proper attack position unless they’re max forwards. I’m considering moving the pegs further back and further down after a few more hours of testing on bars full forwards. So far hasn’t felt much different other than helping me get standing easier and inducing less arm pump but I haven’t had a destroyed track to test front end twitch on either although I am used to the bars slamming the stops on occasion anyways as I tend to run my forks sucked up in the clamps on most bikes.

    The headset bearings are smaller than stock and set in aluminum split rings. They won't be as durable as stock. That has to be one of the most confused explanations I have seen. If Jodi can explain it, then why not let him do it? Rake refers to the angle of the steering stem which is usually, but doesn't have to be the same as the angle of the fork tubes. The reference line can be either a horizontal or a vertical line. I've seen it both ways. Trail is the distance from where a line drawn through the center of the steering stem intersects the ground to the center of the front tire's contact patch.

Cheating at its finest they should bring in stop go penalties for such blatant truck cutting because it has been happening more often and the advantage they gain can have a huge effect on the overall outcome of the race. Deegan would not have been in the position to pass shock if he had not cut the track.
