I actually have a gun from the series. I bought it from someone who ran a props dept. for the show. The guns for the most part were real. He's got a S&W 645 .45 acp. They had 3 on the show. I own one of them.
@@ferretapocalypse He only carried one in the first two seasons. Then he carried a model 645. The first season his ankle gun was a Detonics .45 but after season 2 he carried a Detonics Pocket 9. @JP D The guy I got it from was a retired props dept. worker. The gun came with it's set number tag with serial number on it. It could be fake, but I gave less that 600 for it and that's not bad for a great shooter even if it isn't a gun from the show.
@@rsons2014 From Season three onwards he uses a .45. In this episode, it's a Smith & Wesson 645. In season five he replaces it with a Smith & Wesson 4506. The Bren Ten was cool but seasons one and two only.
One of the amazing things about Don Johnson at this time period was that he had absolutely no fear in his body whatsoever. If you go to 2:20 and slow the footage down to 0.25 speed, watch his neck, jaw and head. You can see that he doesn't even flinch in the slightest...bear in mind that this is a 45. caliber handgun and in person the enormous sound upon firing and jolting of the gun would make 99% of people flinch quite significantly. Even if they were experienced in the use of firearms and they had ear protection on, they would usually still flinch a bit. Don has no ear protection here and no blinking or flinching at all...nothing.
It was NOT .45 acp. Sonny’s sidearm in the series was a 10mm “Bren Ten” which had been developed just before Miami vice cane out. Crockett was initially supposed to carry a Sig P220 but that was changed to the modern Bren Ten 10mm even though that gun was a commercial flop.

This was such a satisfying resolution to this story arc.I hated Hackman so much for killing Sheena Easton's character I would have done this myself even as a teenage boy.He would have gotten to "you can't shoot..." then BANG! Justice.
At first I assumed that would be his famous Bren 10, but looking at it, it does look like the S&W 1006 10mm, of which I owned one. The grip contour, accommodating a single-stack 9-round magazine, was a bit on the thin side for my tastes (more used to the 1911A1 in .45 ACP), but it was a great gun, and flat-shooting with my 155 gr. FMJ-FP’s over the max. spec load (7.4 gr. of Unique), and exceedingly accurate with a moly-coated 170 gr. LSWC with WST powder. Hand-loading is the most economical way to shoot the 10mm.
This and Magnums PI's "did you see the sunrise this morning?" were the two darkest, heaviest "good guy shoots the unarmed bad guy" scenes in TV history.
I have the Mill Creek dvd box set and just watched this episode last night. I needed someone I could talk to about it who would understand how heavy this was!
The thing is this whole season took place during a writer’s strike and the next episode, Mirror Image, was Sonny losing his memory and becoming a hit man where he tried to kill Tubbs and then he escapes by killing a crooked cop. The next season they let Jan Hammer go and Tim Truman was doing the music but the last two episodes of season 4 and first 2 episodes of season 5 were basically one long storyline of Crockett and IMO the best of the series and the most intense of any cop drama ever aired. The thing is, critics panned it because it was a writer’s strike and they went to the amnesia well and dragged it out. Fuck the critics though! Don Johnson played that shit cold! They introduced Julia Roberts to TV! Chris Cooper played the crooked cop! Tim Truman had a great song with vocals. Max Headroom was driving a Lamborghini SUV! The chick playing the girlfriend was married to Mickey Rourke at the time! There was a lot going on in those 4 episodes besides the awesome cinematography, action and music! I still remember when the show aired how NBC would put “In Stereo” at the bottom of the screen! Now I hear Vin Diesel is going to reboot the series. Let’s hope that happens!
The Vin Diesel rumour has been going around for years. I'm not holding my breath. I'm sick of waiting. Besides even if it eventually does get finished and released it will probably go to Netflix or something. Fox has pulled out of the UK like Universal a few years back. The Walking Dead has now gone to Disney +. I was really looking forward to s11.
@@ianl1052 I can appreciate not putting stock in the rumor mill but as far as tabloids goes this story was in Variety back in 2017 variety.com/2017/tv/news/miami-vice-reboot-nbc-vin-diesel-1202506455/ so there was some big name press circulating the story. It’s definitely a series that needs a reboot though.
@@rwfrench66GenX I know, I even saw an interview with Don Johnson discussing it, but it doesn't take 4 years (and counting) even taking covid-19 into account to produce and release what will likely turn out to be nothing more than a 10 episode show. If, say, the pilot had been recorded and accepted by a distributor the series should have been released long ago and discussions for a second season should have been completed. (I believe Picard took around 2 years from conception to release on Amazon Prime). If the pilot had been rejected by distributors why don't we know about it and why are we even discussing it?
@@ianl1052 you’re probably right. I know Vin said he wanted to do 10 Fast & Furious movies and that doesn’t include his other work so maybe he just wants to do producing when he’s doing with the F & F franchise. Just a theory.

Yep, and the previous episode where Sheena got plugged and died in his arms. Yeah that would push you over the edge easy. I remember the first scene Episode One, Crocket's on stakeout and "Gumby" is dancing on the street corner.
Actually Caitlin got plugged in this very episode, at about 32 minutes, end of Act III for the drama weenies; Crockett kills Hackman 12 minutes later. The very next episode, the 4th Season finale, he gets blown up and thinks he's Sonny Burnett, setting the stage for Season 5.
The original plan was for Sonny to shoot him in cold blood unarmed. Crockett going over the edge was foreshadowed in Shadow in the Dark, and even perhaps earlier.
One of my favorites was when Sonny is chasing a guy in a house when he comes around the corner and points his gun at the head of a guy with a 12 gauge on the head of a girl. The guy says to put the gun down because one little twitch he will blow her head off! Crockett responds: “Maybe you won’t twitch” then shoots!
@ Miami Vice, You guys have to show the ENTIRE scene. Otherwise, younger viewers (under age 50) will think that Crockett murdered an unarmed criminal. For those who didn't see the original 1986 telecast, the crook has a pistol hidden under a newspaper he had on the table, and Crockett saw it (right next to the blended Margarita at 0:53). The crook was NOT unarmed. If they would have shown 10 more seconds of this scene, you would have seen the gun that the crook had hidden. I still remember seeing this as a 20 year old, back in 1986.
This symbolism also appears in the episode "El Viejo" when Wille Nelson shows one of Mendez' henchmen the briefcase at the hotel pool...he ends up killing the same guy at the end of the episode at the cemetery 😊

This was such a satisfying resolution to this story arc.I hated Hackman so much for killing Sheena Easton's character I would have done this myself even as a teenage boy.He would have gotten to "you can't shoot..." then BANG! Justice.
The Bad Guy Had a Gun Under the Book, Crockett Would Never Gun Down a Unarmed Bad Guy. YEA!
One thing made this a great show was the music...
The echo of the shot 😎
A great episode 👍
Great soundtrack from John Petersen here
Never gets old
Love that S&W 10mm!
@@scottmcintire8634 It wasn't 10mm. It was .45 ACP. Specifically the Smith & Wesson 645. 8 + 1 magazine. Essentially a DA/SA 1911.
@@scottmcintire8634 he had a Bren during the early episodes, for some reason they went to S&W!
@@Procket12 from what I heard he was a 10mm for the story line.
@@scottmcintire8634 the Bren Ten was discontinued by the time of this scene. I believe Sonny switched in season 3.
Awesome amazing show.
Absolutely awesome number one
This and Magnums PI's "did you see the sunrise this morning?" were the two darkest, heaviest "good guy shoots the unarmed bad guy" scenes in TV history.
Super. Loved that show
Best scene ever!
The very first time it aired back in 88 Hackman didn't have a gun.I believe that was added when it went into syndication on other networks.
Wrong! The very first airing..he had a gun.
I have the Mill Creek dvd box set and just watched this episode last night. I needed someone I could talk to about it who would understand how heavy this was!
That scene was his most badass. Unarmed? His tentacles where all over the place

I know, I even saw an interview with Don Johnson discussing it, but it doesn't take 4 years (and counting) even taking covid-19 into account to produce and release what will likely turn out to be nothing more than a 10 episode show.

Could be. What annoys ne though are these so called Miami Vice spoiler alert videos using footage from Mayans MC and Nash Bridges and older MV episodes. I don't bother watching them now.
I Love this show
Don Johnson Is The Best 💯 Period, Definitely The 80s,The Man,The Myth,The Legend
Hey you can’t do that 😎 💥
Good call.
The Terminator in the gun store said "wrong" a year earlier.
" Did you see the sunrise ,Ivan ? "
"Yes....why?"
Ooooh..brooding RrayBan drama...the old movie trick of a human eclipse works here and one of the few times where Crockett uses one hand to discharge that prop gun..but it almost looked real...gotta love that sound effects dept...so wright!
One handing it is a signifier that this is personal, not professional.
Damn.... Hearing the echo of that gunshot
Yep, and the previous episode where Sheena got plugged and died in his arms. Yeah that would push you over the edge easy. I remember the first scene Episode One, Crocket's on stakeout and "Gumby" is dancing on the street corner.
Wasn’t she his wife and expecting?
Actually Caitlin got plugged in this very episode, at about 32 minutes, end of Act III for the drama weenies; Crockett kills Hackman 12 minutes later. The very next episode, the 4th Season finale, he gets blown up and thinks he's Sonny Burnett, setting the stage for Season 5.
@@technofilejr3401 They reveal after the commercial that she and Sonny had conceived. I think we were all expecting that.
*Its such a quite but violet scene*
The original plan was for Sonny to shoot him in cold blood unarmed. Crockett going over the edge was foreshadowed in Shadow in the Dark, and even perhaps earlier.
One of my favorites was when Sonny is chasing a guy in a house when he comes around the corner and points his gun at the head of a guy with a 12 gauge on the head of a girl. The guy says to put the gun down because one little twitch he will blow her head off! Crockett responds: “Maybe you won’t twitch” then shoots!
That's here somewhere, great scene.
Yes, the Everglades episode.

A very Intense Episode!!
I love Miami vice and Nash Bridges❤❤❤❤❤
More please 🙏
Miami Vice's " Did you see the sunrise this morning?" moment...
I tell ya Sonny never should've helped that asshole get free from being executed in the first place, if he hadn't Caitlin would've still been alive.
The best!
That's right
Except it was in 1988…
Corona symbolism ;-) 0:09
A halo over the head of the Angel of Death.
This symbolism also appears in the episode "El Viejo" when Wille Nelson shows one of Mendez' henchmen the briefcase at the hotel pool...he ends up killing the same guy at the end of the episode at the cemetery 😊
Good stuff.
I was a young county investigator when Miami Vice was in TV. Our captain flipped out when he saw us wearing sport coats over t-shirts with 5 o’clock shadows!
Did you say hey Sonny Crockett wears it!
@@BarbaraS-o4z I should have! I just started to dress like Tubbs…
"Ivan...did you see the sunrise?"
Crockett just broke bad!
Hello. Thank you.
He had TWO ARMS so it was Justified.👍👏
