I lived in Miami while this show as being made. Used to pop across to south beach in hope I would get to see them filming. I managed to get myself an extra role for one scene filmed on Espanola Way. Wonderful times.
I got to be Dons Security for PAYBACK inside the State Prison and got to see Roberto Duran Kiss him right in the Mouth. The reaction from Don was Priceless.😂🤪👍
Ed O’Neill is one hell of an actor. He really pulled off scary and psychotic in this episode and as much as he is hugely associated with the Al Bundy character, Al Bundy is quickly forgotten here. The character was really well written. He was scary and tragic. The perfect representation of a cop who has gone off the rails. Deep cover for too long must take a toll on a person’s psyche regardless of how much training he’s had. It’s this realism that defined this amazing series. Right up there with the sopranos as far as quality television. Without a doubt my favorite guest star in my favorite television series!
Little Richard as a street preacher, Bob Balaban as an investigative journalist looking into Iran Contra in real time, G. Gordon Liddy as a black ops dealer, Liam Neeson as an IRA bomber, Brian Dennehy as a televangelist, Bill Russell as a judge who gets into corruption, Bruce McGill as an ex-cop gone rogue, John Heard as a crooked lawyer, and, in perhaps the most brilliant casting scheme ever conceived, Phil Collins as a two-bit game show host who gets in too deep trying to become a player in Miami... Outstanding show.
Love seeing all the old school cameo's in these shows. I was watching "Riptide" from the 80's the other day and Gena Davis was a cameo on it. Young and sexy!
Sacha Baron Cohen was born in 1971, which would have made him 18 at the end of 'Miami Vice' in 1989. I believe you are mistaking Frank Zappa for Cohen.

I was too young when Miami Vice first aired. I remember my parents watching it with pleasure and 30 years later I watched it myself and recognized so many now famous actors and other artists. Amazing show. I love every episode but my favourite one is still the one with the mindblowing performance of Bruce McGill and the awesome shot when they followed the Ferrari through a dark and deserted Miami with the camera on another car (all shaky and that but iconic) and Brothers in Arms from Dire Straits is playing. "Out where the buses don't run". Omg it's all coming back to me, early 80s the first time on uk tv, that beginning at night around 11pm i think or close, it's awesome and a trip getting old 🧓 🤣 🇬🇧
I remember that Bruce Willis episode like it was yesterday...the fallowing Thursday i was on a jet plane on rout to San Diego for basic training...fond memories 😢
I just wanted to tell you that the Lord Jesus Christ here I see what is the only way to have it and you can accept Jesus as your savior anytime you want
What? The #1 guest star on Miami Vice is also in the #1 greatest Miami Vice episode: “Out Where The Busses Don’t Run”…Bruce McGill is the greatest Miami Vice celebrity ever. That deranged mental nut case that he played, Hank Weldon, was brilliant. I believe that episode won an Emmy. How could it not be Bruce McGill? That episode was my personal favorite…I also liked the one episode called “Bashido” in the second season. Martin Castillo, Edward James Olmos, has to choose between his friendship with his Vietnam buddy Jack Gretzky, and his duty as a Vice Lieutenant. That was a great episode, but it was missing a celebrity cast, excellent episode anyway.
"No Exit" was the first thing I ever saw Bruce Willis in, and while I didn't like season 2's habit of casting non-actors as guest stars, "Definitely Miami" and "Payback" are two of my favorite episodes.
What a great show for the first few years. As with most they jump the shark and get silly. I remember all of these episodes. The Bruce Willis episode was neat because then all of a sudden he was doing commercials for wine coolers and was on Moonlighting then huge success.
The only good things about the Danny Sullivan episode were the chase at the beginning from the wheel's perspecitve and the episode ending on the windshield shattering.
Helena Bonham Carter as a very young looking (like 16) Doctor. Six years after a girl moved to town who looked just like her and I fell head over heels for her.
Any list like this must begin with Dennis Farina as Al Lombard. Farina is tremendous in all of his acting, but he had multiple appearances on Vice over the years and Lombard always hit the bullseye.

What Frank Zappa's character revealed (that Crockett and Burnett were one and the same person) is what always bothered me about the show. How could all of the dope dealers, pimps, and other bad guys never figure out that Sonny and Tubbs were vice cops and should be shot on sight? They never tried to disguise themselves, and kept appearing week after week as mid-level dealers. What's funny is that they never did any prison time themselves; they were always right back out on the street. Word should have quickly gotten out via the grapevine about who they really were. For Christ sakes, they also had to appear in court to testify to send the bad guys to prison. Members of that dealer's crew would have been in court and could immediately identify them as the vice cops their boss trusted. They wouldn't try to kill them then, but could pick a time of their own choosing to exact revenge a month or two later. Or hire a contract killer to do the job; someone from L.A. or N.Y, who would be unknown to them. Could nobody in Miami put two and two together?
Funny how Frank Zappa played a drug lord, yet in real life he was against drugs and an advocate for the "say no to drugs" . This was most evident in his appearance on Saturday Night Live where he refused to do "drug humour" which was popular at the time.
one of the best shows from the best years of my life.... the 80s

Glenn Frey totally nailed his role as a smuggler.
LewyLewy2008 yep, the ”Nudge” however would have done well with a few acting classes.
Rip glenn.
Glen Fry was great musician, but sucked as a actor. Watch Lets Get Harry, you'll see what I mean.
Definitely, and Smuggler's Blues was the jam
So many great actors/actresses in this show! Even with the small parts they played. Julia Roberts, Ben stiller, Gene Simmons, Penn Jillette
Miami Vice was a cool show with a cool mix of Music and guest stars before they got famous !
miami vice had quite the stellar cast of guest stars...
Don Johnson has such gorgeous eyes! So does Phillip Michael Thomas! Both really good looking guys!
Canny observation
Boy those were days the early 80's 1983 was the best for me.
A good series where a lot of talented people passed through. A lot of good writing.
Can't believe they left out Phil Collins. Besides In The Air Tonight, he was a good actor.
Yeah I also missed Phil. But who else could be on 1? Bruce with Hair :p
I hAve Phil’s episode on VHS somewhere. Phil played the Artful Dodger as a child actor. That was his mother’s ambition for him.
Phil Collins is NOT a good actor. Damn.
Gordon Liddy was best.
Wasn't Adam Ant, in an episode?
Bruce McGill's guest performance in "Out where the buses don't run" was probably my favourite performance from a guest star.
Me too. "Out Where the Buses Don't Run" was named one of the top 100 TV episodes (survey in the early 90's)
Willie Nelson was the best!
Yes!
Willie as a Texas Ranger was my favorite.
Willie Nelson, Glen Frey, Phil Collins, Ted Nugent and Frank Zappa!
Yeah, that Willie Nelson episode was really powerful.
Willie was awesome
I totally agree i was were is he. he was best as U S Marshal.
