不少 #移民英國港人 因為重視 #子女教育 ，選擇在 #英國名校區 落腳， #申請英國學校 #插班；然而 #英國outstanding小學 和中學 #學位供不應求。不少家長都未能為子女在理想的學校申請插班 ，需要到較遠地點上學才有 #空位，令個別學校，在短時間內 #收取大量港人學生。
#綠豆 #記香港人 採訪了一所在 #曼徹斯特 收取了大批 #香港學生 的 #英國公立中學，讓校方和學生們親身跟大家分享，年青港人在 #英國讀書 ，在 #英國教育 制度下展開新生活的重要一章。

Study 6000 Miles Away 【With English Subtitles】
In many Hong Kong parents’ perception, quality education is key to success for their children. Lots of Hong Kong people moving to the UK are therefore settling in places where outstanding state schools are located. However, outstanding primary and secondary schools in the UK are in high demand and not all parents are able to send the children to their desired schools. They have to send them to schools further away where school seats are available.
In this episode, we have featured a state secondary school in Manchester that has been accepting a large group of students from Hong Kong. The school principal and the students there shared their views and experiences, demonstrating how these youngsters from Hong Kong turn a new chapter under the British education system.

我今年42歲，英文真係唔多掂，2022年5月黎到英國，而家開始上英文堂同反緊牙科診所，一路讀牙科護士課程一路做野，做左3個月，英文會覺得明顯進步的，最緊要唔怕講錯，佢地會明白我地母語唔係英文，佢地都會真心教我的，我咁既‘年紀都要學習，世上無難事，只怕有心人，香港人加油👍

我自己都係21年中入學的，現在 year 11，雖然我不太愛説話，英文又只是啱啱好合格，但老師和同學都好理解，仲會主動鼓勵，同我做朋友，就算只剩3個月就考GCSE了，我都唔怕，冇很大壓力了。

呢位校長好有心幫香港學生，respect，小朋友學language 好容易，只要唔好怕羞，多啲同本地學生講英文，好快就追上
I’m glad the headteacher and the school have a lot of empathy. Not only have they welcomed new students from Hong Kong, they’ve also injected resources to ensure integration. Having been working in education, I know it’s not easy administratively. Kudos to the head teacher and the school he leads.
It is definitely not an easy task to handle that sudden change. One out of six students in Broadoak School came from Hong Kong.
HK parents can promote the unity and provide the support to make donations to enhance the school resources.

不用擔心各位小朋友，去一個無咁大壓力的地方讀書，好快適應的，最重要放膽去溶入多元文化的社會，英國是活動教學，沒有香港那麼死板，死讀書。努力呀！
我這個耆老移民加拿大🇨🇦三十年，在六十歲那一年，得到政府的資助，包括埋生活費津貼，我都能夠用一年多的時間，加埋實習，我都可以考到一個Care Aid Diploma 牌，在衞生局做Care Aide，工作到六十八歲才退休。現在已經七十多歲了。

Great video. Good to hear from the school about how pupils from Hong Kong were doing. And also good to know that John of the school has made the school environment as welcoming as possible. I burst into tears, when I heard John said "part of the priority for the school" in the end of the video. The school really cares about the newcomers. Thankful for the extra resources the local council has provided to the pupils from Hong Kong. 香港人加油!

@@victorlee1788 Human beings emigrate for better life, better culture, better education and last but not least, social conditions. Europeans did it, moving from their old world to America, their new land and a new, better country. If one dreads losing his / her own culture and identity, then what is the rationale of immigration ? Is it to create an autonomous state of China within United States or Canada ?

關於學英文，想分享個人經驗。我多年前初來時第一件事就是用50磅買了一部二手電視機。每天開著字幕(teletext, 即subtitle) 看電視節目。那時候也不是想要學英文，只是純粹喜歡看電視娛樂，但又聽不明，所以開字幕。不知不覺地，半年過去，英文進步了很多很多。
呢個，我20年前，在香港自修英文，租CSI / White House / House /Sex in the city 美劇 DVD 返屋企煲時，已經有做。
其實用呢個方法學英文，根本唔駛去到海外至做到。但睇電視學英文，主要係聽同睇英文進步左（仲要主要係美式英語），後來就算考到 IELTS 7.0/7.5 ，喺英國留學，就算聽及睇英文冇問題，到要寫英文，及用返英式英語去表達自己並要在見工時表現突出，依然要時間去適應。（不用說要適應其他印度/非洲/南美/歐洲學生等口音了）
對英文水平尚算OK 的我來說 ，每天仍在學習中。
學校真係好照顧香港學生的需要，就算資源有限亦盡量安排，香港學生加油！
去新地方返學唔容易呀，各位同學加油呀！

thanks green bean, wat a great documentary about the students' new life in UK. i took the high school somewhere in the west coast, and I remember my language barriers were not the essential to my new life in an new place! it's about how much the community, schools, and family members willing to give the supports to the students, on the flip side, it's also about how much the students can enjoy to meet, blend in, integrating, influencing, contributing to the new place. A life balance is a more focusing in the western....
