I've secretly wanted to do one of these for a long time (despite that I have no need to do so). I'm excited to see how it flushes out in the mudding phase.
You made that look so insanely easy. I have a poorly made arch in my house I’ve been wanting to replace but have been dreading. Can’t wait for the one in this series so I can tackle my arch. Thanks Ben!
Well I actually have 4 of these to do in a new build…so this was a great refresher on how to do them. I don’t think I’ve done one since 03! Nice work, Ben. Merry Christmas
I did the same thing with 1/2” plywood but put it over the studs just like drywall and butted the 1/2” drywall to the plywood then used duro bond 90 to float over the plywood when done you couldn’t tell the difference I’ve done this several times it’s been years and has held up perfectly
Love your videos and your sarcastic humor. Hey, do you have any videos for a no fail, diy wall texture video? Thanks for the help skim coating over horrible 50 yr old texture (s). I am finding the sponge method works after many failures. I know you are a professional and advising us diy'ers. Thanks 😊
You are absolutely right about the "next guys" coming in and ruining your perfect work. That is why we should just do it all ourselves! Saves money also.
As a resident of the southwest. Arch walkways are our bread and butter. It is time consuming. But the look is priceless. Keep the videos coming ,Ben. Merry Christmas 🎄
Ben, I have three doorways in my house that were turned into Hexagonal tops | / _ \ | I need to turn one of them into an arch. Do you recommend knocking the whole thing out and making a new arch or can I fill in the gaps to make an arch out of the hexagonal shape?
@Vancouver Carpenter safety glasses here AND a dust mask in the next video, not a T-shirt!? Really glad to see it. Your livelihood and mine both depend on being injury-free.
The doorway in this case was tall enough that a half-circle works very well. If the height was lower, a smaller part of a circle could be used. To set the arc, use a second piece of wood to extend the center of your compass somewhat below the end of the plywood. Then use a longer radius than half the diameter. (This is easier to do than to describe.) The result should be a shallower arch.
I got excited when he said "now we're going to screw this up here"! I am very good at screwing things up... though unfortunately not in the way he does it😂
Wait... what? The drywalliest carpenter is doing... carpentery things!? Ohhh my head is spinning and I can't see straight! Also, if REALLY worried about getting things lined up straight, using a router with a flush trim bit around the template is more accurate than a jigsaw :)
Removing an arch was on my list of projects for you but you quickly deleted that video. I do have one cool project idea that I think you might find interesting.
I cringed very hard at the way you cut/ caught that board at 2:42. Yikes, next time finish the cut from the other side so you can catch the drop safely! Or just let it fall altogether. Be safe dude!
Ben, if we don't see you, you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I remember doing these when I was a framer. The radius of the arches was always wider than the opening for a flattened arch look. Royal PITA.

Excellent video and content! Thanks for a quality video and channel.

it made my day when I realized you're doing your measuring in freedom units. Thanks for the smile, drywalliest vancouver carpenter!
😂
this is one of my favorite channels and it always shows up on my recommended feed. Finally subscribed!
Welcome and thank you!!!!
Whats up from Madison Indiana love watching keep up the great work!!!
4:42 This gives me very specific flashbacks of those times when the bit slips and you nail the webbing between your thumb and forefinger. Good times.
This is by far the best ive seen and ive done these.this is FANTASTIC 😂❤I FEEL DUMB NOW.
Nicely done. Can't wait to see the drywall with 1/4 inch drywall to make the round smooth look.
Great tips and skill, thanks Ben
I always wondered how that was done. Now I know enough to pull it off when time comes
Awesome! can't wait for the boarding part
Ben. You're the best, bud.
I always thought you as being pretty strait …. Who knew? Lol. Good video Ben!

Ooh. I want to put in some Tudor arches in a formal room... This is useful.
Another great video, Stud!

How you did the template was AWESOME! Thanks
I didn't realize you sped up the footage of you cutting the arch for a second and was like "damn that's gotta be the best jigsaw ever"
I'm so confused?? Where's the mud? Where's the 6? What did you do to Vancouver Drywaller?!?

Merry Christmas 🎄
How much do you charge per arch (same dimensions as video) in your area?
keep up the amazing work Ben you always do such an amazing job on your repairs and on your videos.
Woulda been cooler if you did a hyperbolic cosine (caternary) curve for the arch.
🥳

EVERYONE makes mistakes. The good crafts-person knows how to correct it or make it look like it never happened.
I'm doing this with a 6 foot doorway in my house. Wish me luck 🤣
Hey Ben where's the Jack stud for the header jk nice video
No drywall?! What a change of pace

Actually in O'Hare flying to Vancouver right now!!! Ski trip)))

that old school video you posted a while back showed a guy making a plaster by hand with that weird hammer
such a clever thank you.

Great video, but why wouldn't you cut the plywood pieces sandwiched together? Keep up the great work, and Merry Christmas!
The jigsaw blade can wander out of plumb quite a bit while cutting. Probably would have been fine though if I had cut them both at the same time.
Definitely useful
One question, why you mark 3 quarters of an inch on the timber that you used as a makeshift compass?
Wait... what? The drywalliest carpenter is doing... carpentery things!? Ohhh my head is spinning and I can't see straight!

First carpentry video I have seen from Vancouver Carpenter lol
Isn't that a protractor you used for drawing the arch ?
Awesome sauce!
Wow, I didn't even realize that Ben owned a pair of actual safety glasses 😂
😂I put them on for the camera.
I want the boarding!
Soon🙂
@@vancouvercarpenter looking forward to seeing how you bend drywall 🤷
Cool, rip a 2x4 to a 2x3. Could of bought just a 2x3. But the that's amazing job
👍👍
Geometry class does pay off.
Why you doing this the hardest way possible? 2 x knee braces @ 45deg at top, cut strip of sheetrock width if wall about 1200, bend in nail on and done
What if you were doing a arch 8ft long and center is 5in
5” centres would be great. Lots to fasten to and keep a consistent curve
The magic is found,... when you fix a real wall..... :>
I personally think an Ellipse looks way better in that situation.
Forgot the disclaimer: Great video, love your content :)
I have to do 6 sets. 😂 replying to “I don’t know why you would need more than 1…”
I use Arch btw
No boarding?? You mean I gotta wait for the next video? Ok then. 😉
any excuse to build a half pipe huh.
Removing an arch was on my list of projects for you but you quickly deleted that video. I do have one cool project idea that I think you might find interesting.
All those English measurements. No metric here (again).
4:14 "And now we're going to screw it up here." But you seem so confident this time!
That was hardly drywally at all, am I watching the right channel?
I find it easer just to order pre-fab adjustable metal arches for ~$50. Saves tons of time. Easy arch makes them.
🙏👏👍💪
Wow, I've never been so early!
First time for everything!
